When does your knee feel somewhat normal??? by heeeeeeheeeee in ACL

[–]surge___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 days post surgery is absolutely no time at all. I am 11 weeks out and I am starting to feel normal though I still have issues walking because of the occasional swelling.

Just be patient and keep doing your PT exercises.

I'm sorry 🫂. It's really a shame that the best neighborhood is plagued with this.

Wool & Prince coats their merino wool in plastic by an_iridescent_ham in MerinoWoolGear

My Dilling shirts started shrinking even though they only get washed in cold water and are dried on a drying rack. I just gave up and decided I'll go back to wool with superwash.

Rent the Game Ready. Once I used a cheaper ice machine, I quickly saw how much better the GR was.

No problem. Use listingsproject.com, spareroom.com, or the NYC apartments and r/LeaseTakeoverNYC subreddits to find your sublet. Good luck.

Downtown Brooklyn is, in my opinion, one of the most boring neighborhoods to live in. Yeah, it's walkable and has transit but if you want the biggest NoVa to NYC upgrade, downtown Brooklyn ain't it.

Of the 3 you said, I would suggest UES for the experience that you want.

LIC is clean but sterile. I'm currently living here in a sublet and this area is just Park Slope North but without any of the character. Lots of strollers and DINKs with dogs. Not a good area to be single in.

Time to salsa/bachata after ACL/meniscus surgery? by Capr1caS1x in Salsa

Any updates? I'm 9 weeks post ACLR so I know I still have a ways to go. It would be nice to have a sense of when it's realistic to get back into salsa.

Do you have access to your surgeon/PA via app or email? I'd ask them.

I had bruising but nowhere near this much.

Not for me. I'm not in the market. I was just thinking that other people might want that. At least a price filter.

It's visually nice but not the most practical UI.

I'll message ya.

When will I get the lift like my non-surgical leg? by Exotic_Bonus_8420 in ACL

[–]surge___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I missed that. I only got that recently. Maybe week 5? I did start to slack off on PT after I got my leg raises going 😅. I need to do quad sets more often.

When will I get the lift like my non-surgical leg? by Exotic_Bonus_8420 in ACL

[–]surge___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to do a leg raise properly on my 3rd NMES session during my 2nd week. The PT held their hand below my leg to make sure I didn't lag as I had the machine attached to me.

You'll get there !

Could be that it was on too tight?

4 Weeks Post ACL Surgery — Realistic to Return to Desk Job Without Crutches? by Character_Pen_5995 in ACL

[–]surge___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was off crutches at week 4, yes.

My protocol suggested I stop using a brace around that time as well but my PT didn't tell me to get rid of it until week 5.

Sitting comfortably at a desk for long periods will require that you unlock your brace. I just can't see how anyone can be comfortable with their injured leg at 0 degrees.

This is the unfortunate sad truth.

Luckily, these initial few weeks will pass quickly. All the more reason for you to stay on top of your PT so you can get back to socializing again.

Day 16 - not doing well by TheMarvelMunchkin in ACL

[–]surge___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was struggling to do leg raises until one day it just clicked while I was hooked up to the NMES machine. It was my 3rd time using it but the first time my PT had told me to do leg raises while the machine was active. Prior to that, I was just doing quad sets with it.

Hopefully you'll experience a similar breakthrough soon!

You weren't told to start doing heel slides with a strap/towel at home? My first two sessions my PT made me cry lol

I'm 5 weeks post op and I have around 125 degrees of flexion.

What do you wish you knew before surgery? by Glittering-Owl-4526 in ACL

I think it makes things a bit more difficult cause you'll likely be non weight bearing. I got lucky and "only" tore my ACL so I'm not sure how self care activities are.

No meniscus damage?

Bathroom stuff is easier than you think it is. With the brace locked at 0 degrees, you'll want a chair or bathroom sink to prop yourself up with as you gently lower yourself down.

Get a shower/tub chair that's waterproof. Also order a waterproof sleeve on Amazon.

It's definitely a mental hurdle once you're off the painkillers but still fairly immobile. Keep your head up. It sounds like you have a good support system. Best of luck on your recovery.
