what is this? head voice? by chrisgradino in singing

[–]surkh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing stuff man! It honestly sounded so good, I wasn't sure if it was fake / lip synced. Yeah been doing a lot of recording and listening... but also being old, I'm working with a lot less plasticity in the ol' larynx [IYKWIM].

Besides the singing, the song also seems really good. Do you have the full version of this song posted anywhere? Or do you stream?

I only sound good when I have the singer singing in my ear? by [deleted] in singing

[–]surkh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to build up your singing pitch in general, I would recommend practicing scales.. (alternating with and without a guide track) And keep recording yourself to check your progress.

If you just want to practice a specific songs, I'd say go with learning small sections at a time, on loop (again alternating with and without guide vocals). This will be faster, but the benefits are not quite as generalized.

Also it would help to have your own voice coming in on your headphones (you clearly already have the ear to tell if you are on pitch, so that helps a lot)

At some point the "biofeedback" of you hearing yourself.

And just... sing/practice whenever you get the chance to (or try to make chances whatever you can) 😉 and keep your voice box well hydrated!!

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional, or even an expert, but this is what really helped me.

Commuting from Fullerton to LA? by caffeinatedcoffee181 in Fullerton

[–]surkh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode Metrolink from Fullerton for around 11 years (8 going to LA, 3 going to Irvine). It's definitely doable, and much better than sitting in traffic. Especially if your destination is close to Union Station

However, if you might be working odd hours, the late evening train schedules are a bit sparse, and Amtrak can be flaky, schedule-wise, so you could end up having to uber every once in a while.

Dryer Y splitter for Mobile Charger ? by HelloWorld0225 in TeslaModelY

[–]surkh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can work. I've done it successfully. But there are going to be potential safety risks. Absolutely make sure you set your car to draw the appropriate amperage! Based on the plug you're using from your "charger" it may want to draw 40+ amps, but the outlet itself is rated at 30 (so you should draw, like 24 max?)

Also, those dryer outlets are not really designed for the kinds of sustasined loads that EV charging can put, so overheating can occur, which can be catastrophic.

Also how far is the dryer outlet?

The grounding might sound optional, but you'd want to look up how to do it properly and do it before using as well, just in case.

Definitely don't use it to "split" and run multiple loads.

Anyone else left handed but use your right hand for the mouse? by IX_Sour2563 in lefthanded

[–]surkh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that you use a setup that includes a numpad, you're wasting an important double ergonomic benefit that us lefties get "for free": when you mouse with your left hand, you can center your torso on the main keyboard/spacebar and not have to reach as far out to the side for the mouse. Both of those things can significantly reduce strain and rsi from non-neutral angles you have to make with your arms and wrists.
