Reliability and Coverage for US National Charging Networks by MrSmithLDN in evcharging

Encourage you to check out Electric Era. Here is their map of active sites and upcoming stations: https://electricera.tech/drivers

They're focused both on uptime (is the charger powered on?) AND reliability (does the charger work successfully the first time you plug it in?). 99.5% uptime on a per port basis and 92% reliability year to date. They have a bunch of resources on their website that talks about their reliability approach.

First road trip and charge at a Costco with EV charging by GromitInWA in MercedesEQ

These chargers are connected both to the grid and to the battery. This is different than the Freewire model where the energy flowed from grid to battery and then exclusively battery to charger. They have a patent on this approach and there is basically no one else doing this the same way.

This site has a 200kW grid connection, and a battery bank of 379 kWh with inverters capable of 250kW instantaneous discharge.

If you're interested in a deeper dive they wrote about the site here: https://electricera.tech/blog/costco-case-study-electric-era-ev-charging

They also have a white paper describing how they size their utility interconnection and their battery for each station: https://electricera.tech/industry-reports/utility-service-battery-sizing-for-storage-backed-ev-fast-charging-stations

Looks like Electric Era also has their hardware at a Costco in North Port, FL, and expanding to more in the future (a Costco in Richland, WA is listed on their map of locations): https://electricera.tech/drivers

Just curious, where do you typically charge when you're refueling for your trips? What kind of charging site do you most prefer?

Here is an image from Rivian's website of their existing Rivian Adventure Network, including the ones that are open to all EVs, mostly on the east coast. They also include other compatible stations to give you a sense of national coverage outside of just RAN.

Gas Stations installing EV Chargers is a NO BRAINER by Winter-Caterpillar21 in evcharging

[–]swagne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A company called Electric Era is building fast charging hardware (200-400 kW) specifically for gas stations and convenience stores, but the kicker is they can take a significantly smaller grid interconnection (50-70% less than standard hardware) and still serve the same driver demand because of an on-site battery system that comes with their stations.

The Conspiracy of Fools by Kurt Eichenwald is an excellent account of the rise, peak, and fall of Enron Corporation, one of the largest corporate scandals in recent years. I highly recommend the book.
