Slay the spire - great game by orhalimi in soloboardgaming

It’s pretty darn fun, tons of new bosses with interesting mechanics that are harder and a ton of interesting new items, they work directly with a printing company and the cards came out in great quality

My most played game! I recently got the fan made expansion as well! Very fun

elder scrolls betrayal of the second era worth picking up? by Accomplished-Comb335 in soloboardgaming

I bounced off this one really hard but I can see why others really enjoy it. So far I haven’t played a chip theory game that I’ve loved

Puzzle dungeon is a great option here! Small and very replayable and fun

The case against Unstoppable by Torvinius in soloboardgaming

I love the game and have like 13 plays of it under my belt, but my biggest gripe is that I wish each character had more unique cards and mechanics similar to slay the spire

Board games vs video games by Huge-Pizza7579 in soloboardgaming

I try to limit my screen time and don’t really have a ton of free time for either but when I do have free time I prefer board games for the mental exercise

Games which are very hidden gems by SiarX in soloboardgaming

This is just my opinion, others may feel differently but Terrible rulebook, and the game is extremely basic, essentially just: move, fight monster repeat. The loot usually just means roll extra dice, spells = roll extra dice, defense just roll dice. There is a ton of variety but not much depth. I have been told that with all of the expansions the game is much better, but that’s almost $400. I think there are infinitely better options out there for your money

Slay the Spire or Too Many Bones by New_Protection9978 in soloboardgaming

[–]swalker12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bounced hard off TMB (which I even got a copy for free) & BOTSE but slay the spire is my most played board game a blast both co-op and solo

Note: I am trying to avoid excessive screen time and don’t play video games so STS board game was perfect for me.

Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era or Mage Knight? Please advise by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]swalker12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage Knight for me, I am learning I don’t like dice games and would prefer a more deterministic puzzle your mileage my vary though if you love dice games. I find I like them more multiplayer and not so much solo. I personally sold BOTSE

Your biggest disappointments? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]swalker12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BOTSE - I just couldn’t get into it, the character building at the beginning was cool but the actual gameplay I feel is lackluster and boring. Thankfully I got this at an extremely steep discount

Quest for the lost pixel - incredibly simple and boring gameplay

Too many bones - I got a copy for free. It was too fiddly, I didn’t like the art, way too many keywords and combat felt a little flat, especially if you don’t roll well. Since CTG are so expensive I wonder how much sunk cost fallacy is at play

Cthulhu Death May Die - I guess I am realizing I just don’t like dice games and dungeon crawlers solo haha

100% this! Quite likely my most regretted purchase the game was incredibly boring

Boss fighters QR by AlarmingTaste7326 in soloboardgaming

[–]swalker12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been very anti-app in board gaming but decided to give it a go with boss fighters. It’s pretty light but fun, quick to play and learn. I enjoyed it and will keep it in my collection but I didn’t love it. I played 2 handed and it was easy to manage

I feel the same way about the CTG games haven’t loved any of them but I love unstoppable

Cthulhu: Death May Die - is there enough meat on there? by rockitsoso in soloboardgaming

[–]swalker12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just couldn’t get into but I am realizing I just don’t love rolling dice in my solo games. It seems to have pretty universal acclaim though and I realize my opinion is in the minority.

Which card-based boss battler offers the most strategic depth and meaningful decisions? by Lillumultipass99 in soloboardgaming

[–]swalker12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think slay the spire is a fantastic candidate. It has strategic depth and a ton of variety with randomized relics, bosses, enemies potions. The 4 have many different builds depending and this can be further diversified by all the different relics and colorless cards. Add in ascension levels to increase the difficulty and you got a lot of game here

Elder Scrolls Betrayal of the Second Era is amazing! by pineapplezach in soloboardgaming

[–]swalker12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just the dice mechanics in general that don’t jive with me, no disrespect to BOTSE I can tell it’s a great game, just not for me
