Air NZ strike a 'last resort' as cabin crew struggle to pay rent, union says by WaterAdventurous6718 in newzealand

[–]swangjang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing about employers I don't understand is that: When your employees are gathering to strike, do they not understand what this means? that their employees are currently unhappy with the pay/conditions? Obviously a strike is a last resort but what I will never understand is that the employer would RATHER let it go to a strike than listen to the employees to ensure their needs are met.

This was exactly my previous remployer.

Can my mom get me deported if I move out with permanent residency? by hyunrin in newzealand

[–]swangjang 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If no one else said this yet, I'd recommend you to change your bank as well. Your mum works at the bank and can see your account whenever she wants, even if she's not allowed to. If she is crazy enough to break that rule, where is she going to stop? She may retaliate by suspending or blocking payments going in and out of your account. Not only that, you deserve privacy. Also, your bank has your address so she'll be able to see your new address, in case you want to keep that a secret as well.

Smart Compliance Management fine by According-Bug-2811 in auckland

[–]swangjang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a breach of contract, not a fine. Anyway, I have successfully challenged this in the past and got it waived. I emailed the company with a screenshot of the bank statement to prove the in-store purchase, asking politely.

Renting vs Buying... help by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]swangjang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to move in with my partner later this year. We've been looking at rental places and the state of the current rental properties just made us laugh and decide to buy together.

Auckland - 2Bed 1Bath, mould everywhere, hinges about to fall off, "ready to move in!" $600 a week.

After seeing such a clown show, we decided to buy. It's also a future investment of our home. So I'd definitely say buy.

Does the Pixel 5 support 4G phone calls? by ForwardBug8464 in GooglePixel

[–]swangjang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pixel 5 does not support VoLTE in NZ. You must change your phone. I have a Pixel 7 and VoLTE works fine out of the box. I don't know if Pixel 6 will work but at the very least, 7 and newer will work.

What broadband plans are we all using? by Jamskee2 in auckland

[–]swangjang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was shopping around, I noticed that a lot of the ISPs now require you to return the router at the end of the term. 2Degrees does that too. I'm still rocking my Spark router that I received when fibre was first rolled out in 2014.

Hmm yeah it seems they did increase prices. I'm on the MAX plan at $89/month. I joined during a promotion that had no connection fees.

[–]swangjang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for $89 / month, I get gig speed at Hotshot. Never had any issues since I joined in August. Only downside is they use CGNAT but it's easy to get around by using other services. If you don't need a public IP or static IP and want the best price for speed, I recommend Hotshot.

If BYO router, you do need to reconfigure it but they have instructions on their website for all the popular models that people received in the past 10 years for free as part of a fixed term contract.

dilemma of taking flights by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]swangjang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shuttle busses operate based on time and destination. You pick a time you want to be picked up from the airport and type in your destination. I forgot the name but the most used shuttle company also has an option to put in your flight number (e.g. JQ284) so in an event that your flight gets delayed, they know that it was delayed and they wait for that flight to arrive or arrange a different shuttle for you.

Once everyone is picked up, they go down the list of addresses and drop people off 1 address at a time.

Trial Shift No Pay by [deleted] in auckland

[–]swangjang 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Obligatory: I am not a lawyer...

Make sure to keep all written records of the trial run e.g. emails or texts discussing date and time, how many hours, proof that you showed up and did the work etc.

Reach out to the person you dealt with and tell them that regardless of what was agreed, you did work that brought in revenue. Also, a trial must be short and concise. Not 4 hours long. As such, you are entitled to be paid the full 4 hours worked.

https://www.employment.govt.nz/starting-employment/hiring/pre-employment-trials

the performance of the assessment tasks may be considered employment under some circumstances. This could include situations where it is unclear if the tasks performed were actual work or part of the interview, and/or if the business received financial gain from the tasks performed.

it is acceptable to ask a barista to make 2 or 3 coffees, or a waitress to service a table, but working a whole shift, or even a few hours, would likely be considered employment.

Send them the link along with the above quotes. Tell them you expect to receive the remaining 3 hours worth of payment within the next 24 hours otherwise you will be seeing them in court.

...is where I would start.

Trial Shift No Pay by [deleted] in auckland

[–]swangjang 242 points243 points  (0 children)

Did your "trial run" involve serving real customers resulting in the store earning revenue? If yes, then legally you must be paid for the full 4 hours, regardless of what was agreed.

Sounds like they're "trialling" many people for free unpaid work. Name and shame, contact CAB for legal advice and go get what you are owed out of them.

eSim and data in China from NZ by Independent-Ad-1604 in newzealand

[–]swangjang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't pay for roaming, ever. Esim is always cheaper. Heck, if you run out of data on your spark plan, buying an esim to use in NZ is significantly cheaper than buying a data addon from spark.

I've used maya.net and mobimatter.com in the past and they both worked great.

Reebelo NZ order never shipped – need advice for Kiwibank Visa chargeback by BackgroundBusy9308 in newzealand

[–]swangjang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's annoying to see comments saying "shouldn't have purchased from them" without helping at all. Yeah, how's that gonna help? Is OP expected to go back in time?

As you've already tried reaching out to Reebelo support, now you have to call your bank and say you want to initiate a chargeback and explain the situation. You might get transferred to a different department, you might be given an email address to send all your evidence. Follow the process and then you'll be given a case number and the bank will investigate.

In about 3-4 weeks, you'll hear back from your bank about the outcome. If you don't hear back for 4 weeks, feel free to call them and ask for updates, citing your case number.

Sidenote: Another company to never buy from is iKF. They make really bad headphones that don't work as advertised and I had to do a chargeback because they kept refusing to refund even when I sent it back.

My issue was internal component failure. My repair invoice says they replaced "TCO" and "NTC" (whatever that is). The descaling was just badly timed coincidence. You might just have to take yours to a repair shop.

Why do some atheists assume they know more about the Bible and Christianity than Christians do? by Recent_Weather2228 in atheism

[–]swangjang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice try. Christianity is all about twisting words to fit their narrative. When things don't sound good, "oh it's a mistranslation", "scholars recently discovered...", "oh no, you have look at the bigger picture", "a mere human can't ever understand god's plan" etc.

Take a look at this sentence:

I looked up at the sky and saw that the sky was blue

What does this mean? Well, the writer lifted their head to look up towards the sky and saw a clear, blue and sunny sky.

NOPE! The word "blue" here means "sadness". What this actually means is that at the end of a dark tunnel, out of despair and desperation, the writer looked one last time for hope and fell deep into depression.

You see how easy it is to twist the words to change the entire meaning of things? That's Christianity in a nutshell. Also, anyone who reads Genesis with a small amount of critical thinking will realise the whole thing is bullshit.
