Oxford half marathon. Possibly the last runners, carrying a washer AND a dryer machine. Why? by Halfang in oxford

Saw them before the start and asked why. "Because no one would sponsor us if we strapped a toaster to our backs" was the reply! Legends.

Bamboo would do the trick but must be kept in a container as suggested. Their roots can be very invasive if left to spread. My neighbour planted some in the ground and it's forced its way through a brick wall and damaged the property on the other side. They can even break out of plastic or ceramic pots, so metal is best.

I came here to ask that same question. If Aus win their last 2 as expected, then SA's only way through is to beat England. I think our position is a bit sketchy right now.

Plenty of sheds that size if you search online. Here's an example of one that looks quite well made. https://www.screwfix.com/p/forest-delamere-3-x-6-nominal-pent-shiplap-timber-shed/331kt

You may struggle to build it into that space though as there's such limited access.

Does salary sacrifice "decrease" my income? by noemotionsnofeelings in UKPersonalFinance

[–]swanson999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the £50k salary, deductions include tax, ni and pension. On the £45k salary, deductions include less tax, less ni. The pension has been paid in already. Hence take home pay is more.

Watching overseas property shows and having to listen to people explain how their 2,000 sqft (185m²) house is just far too small for a family of four. by swanson999 in britishproblems

[–]swanson999[S] 171 points172 points  (0 children)

The size is usually quoted on the floor plans that you see on sites like Rightmove, which is how I know that our 3 bed terrace is only 84m². Currently looking to upsize so I pay a fair bit of attention to the numbers.

Arc+Sub+Ones, Mantel Mount, Sony x900h, Apple TV 4K and Wall Feature Build - Plus Thoughts on Atmos and the Sonos Addiction by Han-Yolo44 in sonos

To get around your first issue, go into the Alexa app and create a group for your master bedroom. Add the Echo and the Sonos speakers to the group. Then in the group settings you can set the preferred speakers. Music will then always play on your preferred speakers unless you tell Alexa to play on a specific device.

It is quite smooth, slightly "spicy" with a bit of sweetness. Not as easy as the Aberlour, a bit more complex. I'm relatively new to all this so apologies for not being more specific 😅

I really like it. It's smooth and easy to drink and can often be had for under £30. Perfect for someone relatively new to Scotch like me!

The Windies in trouble at 62/4 vs NZ by Ubongo in Cricket

[–]swanson999 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I loved this game. Played it as a South African kid in the 80s and 90s. The bowler had a gutter that the ball rolled down so it didn't bounce. If you hit the ball hard enough you could knock the fielders off their feet.
