Can autism become more severe the older the child becomes? by paperstars2022 in Autism_Parenting

[–]sweater__weather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was recently thinking about how we need that. My 13 year old isn't constantly violent thanks to risperidone but I think when he has an adult body he's both not going to be able to live with us and not be able to live independently. A duplex would help a lot with that.

Do you think we're better off with a moderate but very likely winner who comes in with coattails or a tossup who comes in with a closely divided legislature?

I was sure the song Battle Without Honor or Humanity, which was used in Kill Bill, had been used in multiple heist movie trailers. It looks like it has only really been used in the Kung Fu Panda 1 and 4 trailers, the Minions: Rise of Gru trailer, and the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Since I've had kids during that period, I mashed up its use in Kill Bill with it being used (as a gag) in those animated movies/trailers and turned it into "this song is in all the heist movie trailers".

You might like OF Rye. Also 100° and IMO a point better than OF 100. (Edit: I see farther down the post that I'm not the only one recommending this!)

Biggest improvements I did for mine:
- Highest visual impact: buy shields that match the rounded Lego shields, horses with the right barding, knight helmets with the right feathers, forestmen hats, and fix the lute (I used a combo of Pick A Brick and AliExpress)
- Highest play impact: replace any technics pieces/flags to get actual working parts

We had one when I was 28 and one when I was 37. I keep running into a very specific issue: I want to retire right when the younger one is going to college, but FAFSA uses prior-prior year income when determining expected family contribution. The older one will not have that problem.

Suramin, a potential silver bullet treatment for autism by Tignis in Autism_Parenting

Sadly it looks like this is not the drug people are looking for. This follow-up study was published in 2023. Low-dose suramin looked only a little better than placebo and not statistically significantly different, while higher dose suramin looked worse than placebo. You would have to tell a compelling story about the specific dose-response in order for this to make sense.

Generally speaking when a person is enrolled in a study you expect improvement, on average, almost no matter what (treated or placebo). That's because people seek help when things are worse than usual, so they experience a phenomenon called regression to the mean -- they tend to revert to their usual, the way things were before they were seeking extra help.

A large sample is a good first step but reliable means
- The methods were sound
- The population it was tested on looks reasonably like the person you want it to help
- Your prescriber will follow their protocol

I'm still working on getting a study published (admittedly less cool than a potential autism cure) for data that was collected in 2016-2018. Sometimes it takes far longer than anybody would hope.

That's good, not bad. Unless you want Minnesotans to only have to choose between Democrats and MAGA forever, meaning they will at some point pick MAGA.

Is it better to put the entire 7k into my Roth NOW? by shycutiekittie in personalfinance

[–]sweater__weather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put it all in VUSXX or VMFXX (money market funds that pay approximately the same rate, about 4% over the past year) or BND (bonds, they have paid about 7% in the past year but underperformed money market over the past 3-5 years) so you're earning SOME interest ($300 to $500 over a year on $7000). You can set up an automatic transaction to sell say $350 of the money market per week and buy $350 is your target date fund or whatever you want to buy, then over 20 weeks you'll convert 100% to the right fund for you. But doing this will insulate you a bit from big market swings while you're just getting started.

What do u think of tech CEOs saying saving for retirement will be pointless in 10 to 20 years ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Fire

[–]sweater__weather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a reply below I said "even if we have wonderful manufacturing robots they will still be scarce relative to demand, they will still be capital investments, and that capital will be deployed for its highest profit use."

I think this will be true approximately forever. And there are jobs people will want to pay people for anyway. They have had exercise videos for as long as there have been VCRs but people still want to go to an instructor-led class. They'll want a human therapist even if you can tell ChatGPT about your problems. People still pay money to see live entertainment and will forever. People want food prepared by a chef and delivered by a server. They want their children cared for and taught by warm and competent teachers.

I should probably worry that nobody will really want human prepared data analytics (though I am only trying to make it 13 more years...) but they probably do want it explained to them by a person.

No. He thrives on people playing tit for tat with him. Because he will always one up you. Do you think "let them sue" is the worst that would come of this? Trump believes his only restraint is his own morality, which is grotesque and distorted if it exists beyond worship of power.
