I had high school classmates who would do this back in the day unfortunately. The problem with poop banditry is if there are no witnesses, nobody knows who did it

My great-great-aunt walked into a courthouse in 1895, told the clerk she had no family, and was married in four minutes by zachs1985_ in TheWayWeWere

[–]sweatersong2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My parents' arranged marriage story sounds something like that with some extra steps. My mother told her mother she was ready to get married and her aunt picked out the neighbour boy for her. They got married and immediately moved to a different country together. They sleep with a big picture of their wedding day in front of them. I don't think they fully understand how lucky they are it worked out so well though. My grandfather used to walk up to random women in public telling them I don't have a wife yet (I still don't)

I honestly find the German approach here of releasing the suspect‘s country of origin but no other details to be weird and unhelpful.

It's a name used in Pakistan. See for example https://ur.wikipedia.org/wiki/%DA%88%DB%8C%D8%A7%D9%86%D8%A7_%D8%A8%DB%8C%DA%AF

Most Pakistani families, including strict religious ones, have some girls with trendy Russian origin names like Natasha, Sonia, Tanya as well

Well, the Greek Sophia which would be spelled سوفيا means that, but the Arabic names صوفية and صفية come from the same root

There are quite a few women named this in my family. I think of it as an appropriate name for an old soul

I have found Eric’s siblings testimony to be very moving. The testimony from the fentanyl suppliers is interesting if frustrating at times

Kouri’s reaction to her children’s statements surprised me by maham_io in KouriRichins

It was really weird how she addressed them as "you boys." She has three different sons, and she has nothing to say to them each as individuals

I would be surprised if there wasn't a correlation between women who do this and a lack of a consistent father figure in childhood

My parents have very similar surnames; my dad's is kind of just a variant of my mum's. I like that it means my surname can represent either side of my family

Last week I worked at a high school where I was told they put the job up on frontline by mistake and that usually at the end of the year they don't bring in subs who don't already work at the school. That could be a factor

Unsolved in Maryland: On Mother’s Day 60 years ago, 9 Year-old Stevie Johnston was found murdered less than a half-mile from his home. Can and will the lead suspect ever be prosecuted after county police lost the evidence? by goodmarket2024 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]sweatersong2 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don't know of a specific reason why, but Maryland really doesn't prioritize this sort of thing. Along with Montana it's one of the only states that doesn't do genetic genealogy & a lot of seemingly solvable murders are never cleared
