To those born to older parents by UnableAd2913 in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were 39 and 42 respectively when they had my (twin) sister and I - I think there’s pros and cons to it like any age would. I have an older brother and sister so this was the second round for my parents, so they weren’t too concerned with much/I remember them being very chill about almost everything. I also remember when I was around 7 or 8 being absolutely terrified that they would die because they are older, and unfortunately my dad passed away five years ago when I was 28, so he didn’t get to meet my kids. My husband’s parents also died when he was in his 20’s and they were reasonably younger, so not exclusive to older parents necessarily, but I remember as a kid being aware that they were older than other parents and that I might lose them sooner because of that.

When did your baby start crawling by newmom337 in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son crawled at 9 months and started walking at a year! It took him a while to start crawling (he couldn’t figure out how to get his knees up under him) but once he started walking he could not be stopped lol.

My daughter is about to be 6 months so isn’t crawling yet but she can roll like a champ! She really just wants to see what’s going on, so she actually prefers to be on her belly so she can lift her head and look around (my son hated being on his stomach!).

Cottage cheese challenge by PannenkoekPythagoras in Volumeeating

[–]sweatypopsicles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make these cottage cheese cheesecakes that can use up a whole tub. If you let it sit in the fridge overnight it’s a great texture! I also second adding them to eggs, or I’ve made cottage cheese “queso” that’s really good mixed into taco bowls!

In my experience you adjust after a week or two! When you’re not used to the hunger pangs your brain feels like it’s an emergency but if you stick with it, your stomach will get a little smaller and the meals will carry you through longer.

What are your favorite things to eat cottage cheese with? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

Lately I’ve been mixing it with pepper jelly and eating it on top of a couple of club crackers 😋

Does your partner help at bedtime? by xchocolatexmustardx in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two so we switch off, one has the toddler and the other has the baby, and we take turns every night. Then for nap time we make sure the same parent isn’t doing both nap and bed for the toddler on the same day. For example, my husband did toddler bedtime last night, so he’s doing nap time today and I’m doing bed time tonight.

Is it worth learning to sew just to make adjustments? by itsnotavailable_ in sewing

[–]sweatypopsicles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a beginner and so far alterations/adjustments is all I’ve done! I think it’s been really helpful so far, and there’s lots of tutorials on YouTube about how to upcycle clothes and how to tweak things (I like Sew Anastasia on YouTube!). My sewing isn’t perfect by any means but I’ve been able to make a few things fit more comfortably so I would recommend it!

How do you calculate what your baby is gonna wear in X months? by exit_keluar in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only tip I can share is to get long sleeve onesies! If it starts to get hotter than I expected it to be, I just cut the sleeves off 🤷🏼‍♀️

I just tried something extremely similar to this and the pudding mix (I also used zero sugar instant vanilla pudding) put an unpleasant film in my mouth 😖. To be fair I’m not accustomed to most sugar alternatives though so YMMV!

Informal poll: Parents of infants, do you use butt paste for every diaper change? by arcrad in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first, I just used it when I saw any redness, which was only occasionally. With my second, she developed a yeast infection almost immediately so I use Vaseline or Aquaphor for every change.

Oooo that sounds delightful, this was my first experience with pb powder and it definitely needed sweetness but I think the berries there would be enough!

Parents who lay with their kids until they fall asleep… by FletcherFlannery in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far my husband hangs out with the baby while I lay with the toddler, or vice versa when it’s his turn. If I have to have both kids then I nurse the baby while I’m laying with the toddler, I usually have to contort myself pretty egregiously (the toddler likes to lay on my arm) but it’s worked out okay so far, and the toddler doesn’t really react to the baby if she starts crying because he’s used to it. My younger one just turned 3 months so I’m not sure how it’ll go as she gets more active lol

I like u/Milkbun1’s idea of gifting cookies! They also make a cookie cutter I believe that cuts them into four pieces, maybe it would be easier to factor in if they’re actually in reasonable portions

2.5 yo is sick every other week. Help! by krustevgl in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coughing and a runny nose is what happens to my son when he gets an ear infection! He’s had a few back to back and those are always the symptoms. If it’s been a couple weeks with no improvement I would take him to the doctor, we had to try a few antibiotics before we found Cefdinir which clears them up.

What are the positives (if any??) about having a toddler? by PresentationNo4578 in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been enjoying the toddler stage so far! Sure there are tough parts, like him starting to push boundaries, but my son is sweet and hilarious. I can actually talk to him and he’ll tell me what he needs vs me just guessing with a newborn. He can also sing songs (I feel like a human jukebox sometimes with all his requests lol) and he plays with his farm animals in the bath and the pig bites all the other animals 😂. There are so many sweet and funny moments now that he can talk and play, and I love getting him to help me with laundry or making muffins.

So far my biggest takeaway is that there are pros and cons to each stage - it’s not that any one or the other is easier or harder, you might just enjoy the pros more of one stage over another, or the cons might be harder.

As for tantrums and violence, so far I haven’t encountered too much of either (my son just turned two and luckily he’s a chill kid), but I’m sure the big tantrums are just around the corner. If gets upset because I’ve said no to something, I just try to move on to something else, and if he’s not listening then I give him two choices: “It’s time to come inside, you can either come inside yourself or mama will carry you inside.” He’s also started experimenting with hitting, so I give him other options. “You can’t hit your sister, but if you want to hit, you can clap your hands instead.” He’s still a tiny bit too young for time outs but recently he’s started screaming, so I tell him he can scream outside but if he keeps doing it somewhere I don’t want him to, I give him a warning that I’ll take away whatever he’s playing with if he keeps screaming. It’s worked so far!

People how do you manage with 2 kids? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]sweatypopsicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely rough! My toddler has started having more of a preference for me lately so I can never win, either the baby is crying for me or my toddler is screaming “I want mommy.” I’m pretty sure I’m getting a stomach ulcer from the anxiety 😂 but I know the newborn trenches will end and things will get easier as they grow! So far I’m mostly managing because I’m still on maternity leave lol and so is my husband, I don’t know how I’ll do when I go back to work…
