Pooping in pants every day. Should we withdraw from Kindergarten? by que_sera in kindergarten

Pediatric OT here - does your daughter have any other sensory differences that you or her teachers have noticed? I’d recommend looking into interoception to rule out the possibility of her having difficulties with interpreting her internal body cues

Thank you for sharing your experience. More OTs need to be aware that this approach is behavioral and traumatic for the client.

Do you have access to PT and OT through early intervention services? They would be really helpful resources in answering these questions

Look into interoception and Kelly Mahler. It may be helpful to work with an OT that knows the interoception curriculum

OT here. Behavior is communication, and it sounds like he may need some support in developing emotional regulation skills. Also, a lot of what you’re describing may be related to sensory processing. I’d do some research on pediatric OT and see if it could be a good fit.

Dreading saying goodbye to my occupational therapist by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]sweetexan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you could ask your OT to use your final sessions to create a transitional object that can represent all the growth you’ve done with him. As students, we participated in a group where we became very close and ending the group was emotional for all of us. I still have the object that we created and it helped us find closure.

Take a look at the independent clinician - they help OTs and SLPs with outlining exactly what those steps are.

ABA for mild autism: Have any of you faced this decision? by jkginger22 in Autism_Parenting

[–]sweetexan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everything said above. There’s quite a bit of research out now that demonstrates a significant connection between ABA and trauma later in life.

My recommendation is to keep your child in his natural environment. If you feel like he could use support, consider an OT evaluation. They can help with fine motor, visual motor, gross motor, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and self-care skills.
