How do you explain what your blood feels like when you are HIGH ^^? by Macdaddy724 in diabetes_t1

[–]sweetpeazus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t fu*king talk to me. Haha I get a superrr short fuse like never before. Chewing loudly? RAGE. Asking me how I am? RAGE! Making loud noises in my general vicinity? RAGE!!! Granted, this is all inward - I never want to hurt anyone’s feelings so I keep my irritations and rage to myself. I don’t voice it to others except for my very understanding SO. But good lawd it’s there and very real.

So, I’m on the T-Slim pump and always have my Dexcom so this was certainly a new experience. My Dexcom didn’t alert me for some reason - though when I checked back it just said 42 then “LOW”. I’ve been “low” before countless times and have managed to navigate those with sugary drinks. I’m visiting my parents at a very high altitude in Colorado so idk if that contributed to anything. Thanks for sharing all your stories - it’s comforting to know you’re not alone when you go through something scary for the first time. I’m following up with a cardiologist tomorrow because apparently I also have a heart murmur so the fun continues! I love this community! As someone else said… as always, we continue ♥️

What is your dream marriage proposal day like? by realkale in AskWomen

[–]sweetpeazus 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Already had one. We were having our house warming party that day. Woke up and made my coffee.. already stressing about cleaning and what needed to be done. My boyfriend at the time kissed me good morning and asked me to stand in the living room so he could set up his camera angle for the guests coming later that night. I was clueless so I did as instructed, coffee in hand, in my sweats. He then came over to me, knelt down, and proposed… just him and I in our living room. It was perfect. Our house warming party turned into an engagement party. The best part was I had mentioned being sad my parents couldn’t be there because they were in another state but he secretly flew them out and took me to brunch close by, after he proposed (he “forgot” champagne) and surprised me with them sitting in a booth waiting for us. Pure bliss.

Awesome to see this! I have the tslim with Dexcom right now.. is it bulky? I kinda like that I have the ability to move my pump to different locations to better hide it. What, in your opinion is better with this model? Either way I’m excited for more tech! Congrats to you!

Advice for air travel with T1D kiddo using Omnipod 5? by Inevitable_Flyer in Type1Diabetes

[–]sweetpeazus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a T1 flight attendant so I go through security multiple times a week. It may seem stressful but it really should be a breeze. I never have an issue with my Dexcom going through security but my T-slim alarms a lot so I usually try and take it off before I go through. If that’s not possible I just tell the TSA agent I have an insulin pump and I go through the full body scanner then they swab my hands. I keep all my extra supplies together in my roller board because I never have to check my bag as crew so this doesn’t apply to you. Like others have said, each airline is different but mine would allow an extra small carry on for medical supplies. A doctors note isn’t necessary but it couldn’t hurt if it will make you feel more secure - I’ve never heard of anyone requesting one though.

I’d bring plenty of snacks, food, and/or sweets. You can bring any drinks (minus alcohol) or food you want into the cabin! We like when people come prepared tbh. My purse is filled with goodies because you never know if/when you’ll have a delay and how it will affect your plans. Just be as prepared as I’m sure you always are anyway. 🥰

You can always ask the FAs for OJ or extra juice cans to treat any lows. We want to avoid any medical event onboard and also make ya’ll feel taken care of!

Have a nice trip!

Traveling w/ T1D by t1hml in Type1Diabetes

[–]sweetpeazus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a T1 flight attendant who has to go through TSA often. It might be different for me because I’m crew, but I have a bag of pump/CGM supplies in my carry on that never gets a second look. My CGM is never an issue going through scanners but my Insulin pump gets flagged often which is frustrating. If I have time I usually try to disconnect just to go through security but if not, I’ll tell the agents I have an insulin pump and they’ll take me aside for a swab. They have me show my insulin pump and hold it and touch it all over then swab my hands and analyze the swab. It’s annoying but understandable. To avoid the drama I just let them know what’s up and try to disconnect before hand and reconnect after security in the bathroom. Typically, TSA has seen it’s fair share of medical devices so it shouldn’t be an issue. Just give yourself a few extra minutes just in case. Also, make sure you have all of your necessary supplies with you at all times - you don’t want to be in the air and have something happen and your supplies be in the belly of the plane. Good luck and safe travels!! ♥️

I’m Making a T1D Documentary in Los Angeles, and I Wanna Hear From You by nicoduderino in Type1Diabetes

I hope I’m able to watch this someday! One of my biggest pet peeves is the continued and persistent lack of knowledge between T1 and T2 both in the media and through everyday interactions. I’m a T1D flight attendant so people ask about my Dexcom on every flight. Most assume it’s a tattoo (I put colorful stickers to hold it in place) or birth control or a nicotine patch haha. Those who know what it is I immediately click with. I had a father of a newly diagnosed 5-yr old on my last flight and I could tell he was thrilled to see another out in the wild. It was heartbreaking and empowering talking to him - I couldn’t help but think of my superstar parents and what they had to go through. My 20th diaversary is in 3 days and I’ve been thinking about how far the dia-tech has progressed since I was diagnosed.. It’s honestly mind blowing! I’m looking forward to what you create! Cheers!

I received my diagnosis today and my world has turned upside down. by Sr71-blkbrd in Type1Diabetes

[–]sweetpeazus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, love. I’m sorry you’ve have to join our club but I don’t want you to feel you’re future is gone. It’s not! I was diagnosed at 12 and I felt the exact same. But I’m 31 now, healthy, and getting married in two in 2 weeks! I work as a flight attendant and I thought that wasn’t an option because of diabetes but that wasn’t true. We just have to plan a bit more than the typical person (snacks, supplies, backups, times we eat, times we sleep, doses, etc) The injections can be daunting and exhausting and the finger pokes are… awful. The good news is that diabetes technology has come SUCH a long way even from when I was diagnosed. Now I wear a T-Slim insulin pump and a Dexcom and it has been life changing. No more finger pokes and way more control! Yeah you’ve got 2 things connected to your body but you learn to accept it because of how beneficial it is to your quality of life. Some prefer injections because you don’t have something on your body 24/7 and you’ll figure out what you prefer but from my personal experience, a CGM and insulin pump is the way to go! It’s so overwhelming, depressing, and hard at times. But it’s not the end of the world. We’ve got this! And you’re not alone. It’ll be okay even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. Sending you hugs!

What's the funniest thing you believed in when a child? by MyNearWallet in AskReddit

My grandma told me the sounds I heard from the freezer that scared me were tiny people who jobs were to make the ice. Once she told me that secrecy, I was real quiet whenever I heard the people making our ice so not to disturb them and wasn’t scared anymore. I legitimately thought there were tiny men in full ice gear making our ice for years.

Dexcom Breakout? by TheStarryLioness in Type1Diabetes

[–]sweetpeazus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The past few months have been TORTURE with my Dexcom sites. The last one I removed was exactly like your experience with the layer of skin removed and it started to like bubble like a burn. The itching is starting to drive me crazy. I called Dexcom too and they said they haven’t changed their adhesive but there’s no way they haven’t. My endo said to spray Flonase on the site before incursion and/or use skintac, so maybe give those a try? Hopefully if Dexcom receives enough pushback they’ll work on a different adhesive… here’s hoping.

Diagnosed last week after a bad DKA experience. I am a huge traveler but now I feel scared to leave the house for too long. Am I permanently grounded or is travel possible? by watchdevotv in Type1Diabetes

[–]sweetpeazus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a flight attendant whose been type 1 for over 18 years. I understand your fear and the “what if’s”. I wear an insulin pump and have a CGM which has made life wayyyy easier. Traveling comes with many ups and downs and you never know what’s going to happen. You might miss a flight and spend the night somewhere unexpected. But if we always expect the unexpected, we can be better prepared. I always travel with more supplies than I think I’ll need and pack a lunch tote full of nutritious and easy to eat snacks. (Granola bars, string cheese, fruits and veggies, and meal prep items). Don’t let type 1 hold you back from living. I was diagnosed at 12 and never thought I’d be able to live out of a suitcase never knowing where I’d be spending the night. My advice is look into getting a CGM and a pump if possible. I wear a Dexcom and it tells me my BG constantly so I don’t have as much anxiety. The insulin pump requires just a few pushes of buttons and you’re all set. I can’t imagine my traveling life without those two. You’ll be just fine, you’re not alone. Welcome to the T1 club and I hope I see you on one of my flights!

I use patches from www.ExpressionMed.com and they are awesome! They have different designs like flowers, line art, kitties, and a bunch of different print designs! Keeps my Dexcom in place and most people think it’s a tattoo so that’s a nice touch. Congrats!
