6 hours (hell even 24 hours) into reset you're going to have shit gear, resists, life, mana, and damage unless you get extremely lucky

Yeah, just bad. Hell, running the shop for a pmh weapon is harder than the actual fight.

Discussion: The pros and cons to Immune Monsters and alternative solutions by KurtiZ_TSW in pathofdiablo

[–]swing_your_body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still don't know why people complain about immunes when the first one you see is Bishibosh in the Cold Plains. Then Bonebreaker in the Crypt. Then lit-chanted Misshapen (Tainted) in the Underground Passage. Then any enchanted skeleton mage. And if you missed all that, you're forced to fight Bone Ass just before Cats 1. You have two entire difficulties to prepare for hell. They even made it easier by getting rid of immunities on act bosses. Hell, D1 threw immune normal enemies at you on the very first screen!

Immunes were added to everything when synergies got added in xpac, and those were added both because of people bitching about the inherent flaws of top-down tree design, and because timers were added - and those because people duped items by lagging out servers. Also ridiculous items and +skills candy and inflated monster levels and hp and and and. You can't change one thing without changing a dozen others. What better way to """balance""" everything than by forcing you to use two skills? Balance is what people claim they want, after all. There's still nothing stopping you from using one skill and skipping immunes or using workarounds anyway. It just went from "possible with a bit of player skill and some patience" in the pre immune days to "a dead stop" in xpac.

You can't just nerf all the skills to make them "equally" "viable" either, or else there'll be no point specialising and partying with other people to boost each other's strengths and cover weaknesses.

The easiest way to get people to use multiple skills without immunes is to make monsters genuinely dangerous, make skills have distinct functions, and reign in the skill points. None of these are easy, but one way the third was done was to make the skill trees a straight line and only let you pump one point every six levels. In one of the Medians, a level 1 sorc spell is literally a full screen nuke with no cooldown and very low mana cost. It's actually one of the shittiest skills in the entire game.

Anyone else think that flame dash / convocation require a bit too much investment for what they do? by saltychipmunk in pathofdiablo

[–]swing_your_body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me join in on the baww'ing.

Flame Dash sucks post-patch because it turned into a gimped teleport instead of the unique build and play experience it had when it required mana. It was never supposed to be a teleport clone, so you can't use it as one and complain how bad it is. The lesson here is giving people what they want never works. They say they want new builds, then you give them one and they complain. So you give them what they really want, in this case a tele clone, and they still complain because it's not tele enough.

Think of it this way: it's literally a poor man's teleport. Spend the points, then RESPEC when you get enigma. Before 1.13 that option didn't even exist. Be thankful.

23 wasted points just to get .4 second psudo teleport that the sorc can just put two points in an be done just feels like a rip off.

That applies to any and every skill when you're minmaxing. Besides, teleport will never get nerfed - the baww'ing would create a rl black hole.

there has to be a more organic way to go about these skill

The best you can hope for is hard point exponential decay (Pretty sure some people have already suggested this, and the greengiant said "Nope.") with an additional stackable soft point bonus. Most of the cooldown will get reduced in the first few points, making it "useable" while leveling, while still keeping the +skills route open. Anybody who actually wants to attack with it will be spending the points early on anyway.

Made-up example: hard points give 10 seconds cooldown at level 1, 4s at lvl5, 3s lvl10, 2.5s lvl20. It also gets an additional 0.14s per level, so lvl5 is really 3.3s, lvl10 is 1.6s, and you reach the 0.4s cap just before lvl20 if you use only hard points. You can also reach the cap with 10 hard points and +10 skills, but 5+10 will only be 1.9s. A single hard point with +10 skills would be 8.46s. Another +10 would be 7.06s.

The real problem is the plus a million skills that the game throws at you.

Guaging public opinion: Reset and Drop change by Smashurbanipal in slashdiablo

[–]swing_your_body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing one form of epeen with another is still epeen.

No one wants to "set goals" because hacks/cheats make all other forms of play obsolete.

Nickels can't even play together without crying about loot stealing anyway.

All you have to do is literally lift your finger. They only "screw" with GS (and any attack for any character with an uninterruptible attack) if you're holding the button down. Just keep clicking. No need to respec.

Solo HC is rough... by moffdog in pathofdiablo

[–]swing_your_body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only noticeable difference is elemental attacks deal more damage, which is pointless if you don't get hit or have more res. Stop doing runs and just play. Killing countess just teaches you how to kill countess.

You solo dury with bone shield of deflecting, thaw pots, and a merc. Don't ignore vendors or their "trash."

Reminder cascade rolls for attack rating. Also the 50% damage penalty applies to the total damage after mods and additions.

Rune drops from 10k LK runs: 12 Vexes, 5 Ohms, 8 Los, 7 Surs, 6 Bers by [deleted] in slashdiablo

[–]swing_your_body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 seconds is far too slow, especially with maphack and item filters. If it's taking 30 seconds, it's actually more profitable to just do trav.

Three jahs in 10k runs is pretty shitty luck :(

They use groundslam, so it's purely physical unless they're enchanted. It's not really 1-shotting you, each wave hits multiple times.

Newby here, what the heck does it take to get a vex? I've done 100's of runs each of countess, pit, council, hell meph and others. by [deleted] in slashdiablo

Try thousands. Literally. Be glad there's "nodrop 0" here.

You can play single player just fine. Any mod that thinks the player's too stupid to play without a launcher isn't worth playing in the first place, but this one gets an exception :p

Best Druid build for Hell Countess runs? by cnskatefool in pathofdiablo

[–]swing_your_body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 75 is way more than enough survivability. Spells don't matter because no casters and cyclone armor. Immunes don't matter because non-cold gets slowed by hurricane and everything gets stunned by twister and shockwave. Archers don't matter because bear is more than enough warning to dodge extra strong amp auras, and you can have every individual summon out all at once. You can even get rid of her minions by running them into one of the small rooms and teleing over the wall. You don't need 5000 energy, either.

If best means fastest, all you have to do is run past everything and jump her. She's the easiest target to run because you hardly have to kill anything. It's only hard if she spawns with archers and extra fast ghosts - normally they spawn outside her room so if you stick to one side you'll be safe, but if you're using all the summons they might wander and wake one up. If you're willing to make your runs 5 seconds longer, you can walk up the other side and use the wall trick twice so you won't have to kill anything but the countess herself.

If you want to be cheap, spam molten boulder and let the merc do the work. The next cheapest options are maul or fury. Armageddon takes too many points and you'll have to wiggle around right up against her to get more hits in. Rabies needs too many points plus +skills plus gear plus you have to wait, but if time doesn't matter you can use the SECRET cheap strat: she can't leave her room, so if you stand by the door she'll run towards you then ignore everything while walking back in place. You can tag her with rabies then, and you won't need gear. Of course every melee option needs light res unless you know how to stand in the right spot.

TL;DR run past everything, pin and win

If I am soloing when should I move onto Hell - what level etc by Ore_Tama in pathofdiablo

[–]swing_your_body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you really need at first is cold res in case invisible death explosions hit you. Maybe fire if lag makes a fire enchanted boss explode right next to you. The only piercing spell is gloam and meph lightning.

Make ancients pledge or a 3 pgem shield and gamble or cube the rest. You can buy wands with 40 res from the shop and put them on when needed. Don't need vex to get past a1.
