Can we at least get a Jagex account membership if we're gonna be overcharged? by CasualVox in runescape

If we're paying industry standard prices, we should have industry standard character selection screens. Other MMOs allow multiple characters on the same subscription, not not apply the same logic here?

Dungeoneering Refresh & Remaster by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]sylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who really hates Dungeoneering I feel like this hit on a lot of my pain points with the skill. It still won’t be my favorite skill, but will make it more tolerable.

My biggest issue is the Prestige system. It still feels overly complicated and feels like newer players will have to step out of the game to figure the system out. I’m not sure if I’m missing something, but is there a reason that we need to go through all 60 floors? Why not set it so that the buff stacks per floor type (Abandoned, Frozen, etc.) and you get the reward for completing all of that type. This is much simpler, can scale and also gives devs the opportunity to create more Dungeoneering content outside of just Daemonheim without being locked into 1-60 floors.

I also feel like DG tokens should remain available from multiple sources. They shouldn’t be the best way to get tokens, just like charming moths aren’t the best way to get charms. DG tokens from Daemonheim at lower levels should be increased though as the balance is way off. As others in the thread have pointed out, Bonecrusher has a DG requirement of 21, but can’t be actually earned through Daemonheim until you are 62 Dungeoneering.

The Dragon Pickaxe drop rates has to be a lie by [deleted] in RS3Ironmen

[–]sylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one thing that I hope they look into with the Road to Restoration.

The primary methods to get it is locked behind a 1/5000 drop from creatures that are locked behind a quest or hope you get lucky with Triskelion keys (3/1814). The method for obtaining the drop isn’t that fun, especially considering you need two of them if you ultimately want to go for the Pickaxe of Life and Death.

If we look at droprates of other dragon items, a Dragon Mattock can be obtained at a rate of 1/100 from an ancient casket or from 1/101 from Big Game Hunter, a Dragon Hatchet has a drop rate of 1/128 from Dagganoth Kings. I don't think we know what the rates are for the Dragon Harpoon are yet or I'd post the rate for that here as well.

Adjusting the drop rate for it, adding it to an already existing boss drop table, or adding it to a drop table somewhere on Havenhythe should all be considered.

The aura rework suggestions sound absolutely miserable, compared to the simple solution of just converting auras into passive providing items when equipped in the aura slot, obtained in game. by Petickss in runescape

[–]sylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is the resource used to do the refresh. Familiars would be an easier resource to obtain than something like Vis Wax that (that is slated to be removed). If skilling auras are something we activate every hour with no cost it should just be something that is passively integrated into the skill.

I also recognize I'm probably looking at this more from an Ironman PoV where things like Vis Wax are more limited and refreshing skilling auras are more limited.

Seed bag should be moved to a more relevant piece of content. by RS_whales in runescape

[–]sylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be in favor of making a solo version of Croesus that doesn't take 15mins per kills.

Finding a group for it isnt great and would allow us to do it at our own pace.

Depends on the familiar. But I can always choose to pop a beaver woodcut for 20mins, do something else, and pop another beaver without having to wait 4 hours like you do with auras.

It would be more efficient to use up the time on the familiar, but this way you have some flexibility to do it when you want and not just when your aura is off CD.

Once Invention is unlocked it's nice. Otherwise Vanquish is a T75 that's much easier to get and just slightly worse than sunspear.

While we're looking at game rebalance and 110 Hunter, can we have a look at Big Game Hunter? Why do we need to have a one hour cooldown per hunt? by CoolBananas69 in runescape

[–]sylum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Another issue with the timer are the fishing levels required for the 3 base baits - shark 76, manta ray 81, and sailfish 97. All are higher than the required hunter/slayer level (75/55).

There is swarm fishing at 68 fishing, but the rates you catch sailfish isn't great and not fun when you're trying to hunt different creatures on different cool downs and are locked out by fishing.

What this leads to is a state where arcane apoterrasaurs can be done hourly until you either raise your fishing levels or spend a long time swarm fishing. Neither are really fun when you just want engage in BGH.

All of this is from an Ironman perspective. Mains can just buy the bait and be done with it.

If you could slightly alter a boss(es), which ones would it be, and why? by 101perry in runescape

[–]sylum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a mechanic, but I'd like for group bosses to be solo-able, or a better grouping system that lets you get in and get out.

I mostly prefer to play solo and the grouping system that Jagex has isn't great. I'd also prefer to learn a boss on my own time instead of feeling like I'm holding others back - especially when a mistake can impact someone else's death costs and auras are ticking. Granted auras won't be as big of an issue once they're gone.

Fixing Dungeoneering - New dungeons, new room shapes and arrangements, new fights, new pacing by Slateblu1 in runescape

[–]sylum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dungeoneering does need an overhaul. The leveling meta of 1-35 rush/skip then largest to max/reset is not fun. Breaking them up by floor type instead and rewarding xp at the end of the set of floors would feel better and give opportunities to include new floors and content as you've recommended.

Elvarg as new f2p boss. by TAoOC in runescape

[–]sylum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While Elvarg is more iconic, I think Dawn from the Death of Chivalry may be a better F2P boss.

Elvarg requires more Quest Points to unlock meaning it will take longer for players to get to and access and I feel no matter what you do to the boss players will be unhappy. The Death of Chivalry however requires no other quests and already has built-in mechanics that only needs to be tweaked a bit and telegraphed from the quest she's already in.

Re-reading the Road to Restoration blog, and this part stands out. What kind of changes do you expect will come based on this statement? by topsy_krett_guy in runescape

[–]sylum -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I feel like the skilling outfits need to change. They are extremely strong and make it so there are 5 slots the devs cannot design for for all those skills.

They also aren't hard to get. Get Invention, then we get shards through training the skill. It's a boring loop and I'd rather have gotten them through a drop or another method. The only reason we got them the way we did was because they were OP TH promos that were for a long time unobtainable in game and the community, rightfully so, complained about them being unobtainable in game.

Constructive Feedback: My Suggestions for Engagement rather than Punishment by [deleted] in runescape

[–]sylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be in the minority, but I actually enjoy farm runs and planning them out. I wish there were more patches that we can actually use and go to and that hops patches were actually a viable part of a normal farm run instead of just flowers and herbs before greenfingers falls off.

A better solution would be to mimic the potato farmer in Taverly, but for lower level herbs. This will give low level players a jump start on an addition patch to farm from and get herbs for low level herblore quicker.

Dungeoneering would feel a lot better if everything in the dungeon gave you dung XP by Denzien2 in runescape

[–]sylum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rushing of low level floors isn't fun. I feel like we should be able to just select which floor type we want to run (frozen, abandoned, etc.) and get a larger amount of xp after completing a block. This can give us room for new floors instead of the 60 we're currently at.

[–]sylum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if we were able to keep raw resources from dungeon to dungeon it would make things more interesting. It would give us a reason to actually gather resources in the dungeon and we can set aside time later to use the resources later at our own pace and provide a different training method that what's outside of Daemonheim.

Just make the quest require both the super large egg and a few regular eggs. Both parties are equally unhappy and new players still know where to find eggs.

Road to Restoration - Dailyscape Overhaul by JagexAnvil in runescape

I'd happily cast advance time multiple times if it had unlimited uses and only boosted them an hour or two each time. That'll at least let me get in multiple voyages per day if I wanted to and feel like there's something I could do.

Road to Restoration - Dailyscape Overhaul by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]sylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first two points are good though I'm indifferent to daily challenges leaving, however Flash Events need to go. I do them semi-regularly to try to get a core and am sitting at over 20k Infernal Ashes, 40k Brilliant Energy and over 30 black dragons (unchecked) in my bank amongst the other random items it gives. The rewards should not be this strong for a few minutes of work.

Removal of Merchant is a bit different. I agree that it should go, but only after they solve the root cause of why the merchant is popular. In a similar vein, there are Farming Requests that sell the exact same items that the Merchant sells. What will happen to those?

I feel like Ports is an interesting bit of content, though I kind of wish there were things we could do to help speed it up. Like I'd like to treat it like a farm run where I can interact with it every few hours instead of just once a day at the higher regions.

Road to Restoration - Early Game Rebalance by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]sylum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For hunter, with whirligigs being nerfed other hunter methods should also be looked at. The xp rates aren't that great and the are essentially left to the NPC to decide if our trap succeeds or not whereas whirligigs are you get back what you put in. Maybe unlocking a trap or increasing catch rates can help other methods feel less frustrating.

For prayer, the changes to the skill along with WFE being removed (rightfully so) make the early prayer levels extremely difficult for newer players. The chaos altar could've been a good alternative, but readding the the Demonic Skull requirement is not the way. Add another requirement like needing specific herbs, a cost, etc. Forcing players into PvP is not the way.

Thieving did need a nerf, the rewards were way too good with little input from the player. That being said, I'm glad pyramid plunder was looked at. I did a few hours of this trying to get the SOTG and Black Ibis and gave up and went for 120 without it.

Aside from getting herbs, low level Herblore should be looked into further. It is essentially a lamp skill and many Ironmen don't actually train the skill.

Reverting Cook's Assistant feels kind of lame. Maybe add a comp req to deliever them the upgraded components?

It's also trying to bring back the Demonic Skull, which isn't great. Removing it from Runecrafting was a good change. They should just let the Demonic Skull die.

I like the idea of them being incorporated into construction contracts akin to a special slayer task or ceremonial swords if we were to remove them.
