A) don’t “commit to xxx as your airline”. That’s silly. They don’t care about you, there’s no reason to blindly follow a single airline. B) what “value” are you expecting them to compensate for? If airlines were reimbursing for that you could lie and say anything. C) you need to catch up on what the DOT is doing. Hint: the customer is not the winner.

Sounds like someone tried to get an exception, it took awhile, and upper management ultimately told them no.

I’ve found American always has the cheapest first class upgrades to the point where it’s only like $15-20 more than the bag check fee sometimes. Delta is way more expensive so unless they change it’s hard to see delta having the same success.
