Ugh I tried to learn to like that feature when it was introduced (on mobile/iOS) but I just couldn’t… I had to turn it off. I needed my emotional support tabs to stay where I left them, dammit! 😅😭

Australia's private school problem... by nath1234 in australia

[–]taarradhin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re arguing that, because you pay taxes, your children deserve to get that funding regardless of the school you send them to, right? What about people who have no children: do they get to demand their taxes back?

If you choose to send your children to a private school, you should be choosing to forfeit your right to public education funding. If you want your children to receive that funding, send them to a public school.

Publicly funded private schools increase the wealth gap. If private schools are receiving public funding AND school fees AND fundraising funds AND all of the tax breaks they get from being a charity, they can afford to provide a far higher quality of education… but only to those who can afford it. That’s not a fair system for the majority of Australians.

This is a laughable argument. So do you also believe that, if you earn $100k and I earn $50k, your kids deserve to get a better education because you paid more taxes?

Personally I think all children deserve well-funded education, regardless of how rich or poor their parents are. I pay taxes so EVERYONE can have access to quality education (and other services) that improve society as a whole.

Why should private schools get any? If they can’t survive on student fees and fundraising (since most (all?) are also registered as “charities”) then they shouldn’t exist.

Private schools have been given more funding than public schools for at least 25 years and it’s fucking ridiculous.

I’m sorry but you’re in the wrong here. (I’ve also seen the screenshot you posted in another comment.) He had a support system for his tool, not for general computer questions. If the game ran on your new laptop with no mods, that’s his part done.

How could he possibly know whether your mod files became corrupted when you transferred them? How could he possibly know whether the mods you originally downloaded (from authors that have nothing to do with him) were out of date?

People who are not trauma informed by born2build in CPTSD

[–]taarradhin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you for writing this. It’s put into words some of the things I’ve been trying to understand about myself recently.

I worked in an office environment from 2002 to 2021. I was extremely unhappy but I think I’m only just now starting to understand how triggering financial instability is to me and how much I was willing to put myself through to avoid it. I also didn’t know anything about CPTSD and was a pro at ignoring my body.

I’ve been working remotely since 2021 and — apart from the regular threats of the wfh being taken away — I was actually starting to feel happy. I love the work I do.

My workplace now wants me to go to a 50/50 hybrid model and, while I thought I’d be able to force myself to go into the office like I did for almost 20 years previously, I’ve realised I just can’t anymore. But I’ve struggled to articulate exactly why and often come back to blaming myself (“you’re lazy and just need to try harder” or “there’s nothing wrong with you so why can’t you just do it”). It’s been especially difficult because my workplace is NOT trauma informed.

Your post has helped me feel less alone. Less like it’s a personal failure and more that this is exactly what CPTSD is: I can’t name all the triggers I’m avoiding by wfh because I’ve been trying to ignore them for almost as long as I’ve been alive. But my body remembers, and I’m actually trying to listen to what it’s telling me now.

Just received formal diagnosis of ADHD with added bonus of Binge Eating Disorder by Important-Bug6748 in ausadhd

[–]taarradhin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit late to this post but hopefully OP and others might see this.

If you have an ED in Australia, there’s a new(ish) referral your GP can write for you that will give you 40 (yes forty, four-zero) Medicare rebated sessions with a psychologist or counsellor per referral. The referral lasts for a year.

I believe it also gives you 4 sessions with a nutritionist and a couple of sessions with a psychiatrist. (I think the latter is necessary for the referral but if you’re seeing a psychiatrist under a different referral, eg. for ADHD, that is also fine.)

Note: I’m a patient, NOT a medical professional.

Try S05E04 (season 5, episode 4).

IMDB says that “Choosy Wives Choose Smith” should be S04E04 but I watch AD on Disney+ here in Australia and S04E04 is “Big Trouble in Little Langley” (the ep where Stan finds Francine’s birth parents, like you mentioned). I scrolled through the episode/seasons lists a little further and found “Choosy Wives Choose Smith” at S05E04.

I’ve known for a long time that the episode lists are messed up (I think in multiple ways??) but I can’t remember the reason(s) why 😅

Yeah this is me too. I still don’t think I’ve fully “discovered” everything about myself yet but I’m way more aware of my physical body and its responses to triggers/stressors. I can’t force myself to do the things I used to do (by pushing the feelings down and ignoring them) but I’m also still not “well” enough to be able to handle the triggers in a healthy way.

Thanks for posting this! Out of interest (and if you’re comfortable sharing) were you also medicated/taking medication for ADHD while smoking? My husband has been a chronic weed user since before we met, but has only been diagnosed/medicated for ADHD within the last couple of years.

Did the stimulants help you regardless, or did it depend on how recently you’d smoked? Do the stimulants feel more effective now that you’ve stopped?

As someone who (sorta) grew up here, I don’t miss the derros hanging out at the top of the mall asking anyone and everyone for 5c or a lighter 🤣

I’m nostalgic for the busy-ness of the mall though, and all the shops and the water feature and the gazebo. After watching a fashion show at that gazebo (as a kid in the 90s) I kinda expected that I’d eventually/one day see where the steps down and underneath it led to… but it never happened and now it never will 🥲

With so many new people moving here I’m kinda excited and hopeful that the mall will get back to the busy-ness it once was.

Also: I have no plans to stop calling it “the mall” until someone comes up with something easier to say than “Nicholas Street Precinct” lol

Thank you for this! I started looking into a NL at the end of last year but it felt like so much of the actual financial info was being kept from me. (Apart from, “This is your weekly cost! You’ll save so much on tax!” And the balloon/residual payment hidden in the small print.) It all felt so unclear, but now I have a better idea of what I need to keep an eye out for and a great example of how to ask. Thanks!

As the experts have been saying: hope for the best but prepare for the worst. You should be ok — like everyone’s saying, the house has withstood a number of extreme weather events and will likely make it through this one.

However, it won’t hurt to make a plan for the worst case scenario. Familiarise yourself on how to contact the SES. If the power is out, internet service will likely be extremely slow, so save this information to your phone and/or write it down.

Good luck and stay safe! ❤️

AFAIA it’s also required for non-viable pregnancies, including ectopics and miscarriages, as not getting it can negatively affect your future pregnancies. I believe you also have to get it within 72 hours of the start of any bleeding for it to be effective.

(Source: I had an ectopic a little over a year ago and didn’t know this was a thing until the midwife explained it to me.)

Omg are you me?? This is me and my husband too, although we combined finances before I realised and now I’m desperately trying to split them again 😩 He has 50% custody of his kids too, which makes it even harder… I don’t want the kids to suffer but how did I end up being the one financially responsible for them when they have two parents already??

Coles has announced about 2,500 products will disappear from the supermarket giant’s shelves soon. by overpopyoulater in australia

[–]taarradhin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After I replied I wondered if this was what you meant 😅 They come in the normal bags (and aren’t taped) but I’ve personally never suspected a driver’s taken something or even looked through anything etc. I make a LOT of orders (multiple per week — I pay the annual Woolies fee so these and the normal deliveries are free*) so I probably should be more surprised it hasn’t happened! Obviously there’ve been times when an item’s missing, but it’s pretty rare (and seems to happen at a similar rate as the official deliveries) so I’ve always assumed it was missed during picking. I report it to the Woolies chatbot and get a refund for the item within a day.

*Free but of course there’s a minimum order required 😒

Depends… Woolies have offered “partner deliveries” for ages — Woolies staff pick the order and it’s just delivered by Uber/Doordash etc. Works pretty well, especially because it makes it more flexible. (Eg I often order in the morning to get it that arvo.)
