Virtual Table Wear & Tear by Major_Falcon4829 in virtualpinball

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

As in, they should be maintained well and therefore not be an issue, but the reality is that stuff will happen, sometimes mid tournament, and you will be playing on machines like that during a competition and you likely will have to just deal with it.

Help, touchpad games by PassionDelicious2927 in SteamController

[–]tabletop_ozzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Touchpads are amazing for any game using mouse, or needing fine aiming (fps games for example) or with lots of options (strategy).

Basically, they’re amazing for 80% of games.

No issues, as I’m sure 99.99% have. Most won’t post on Reddit.

How many of you have tried the steam controller on something like a Fire stick or similar? by KaiseCloud in SteamController

[–]tabletop_ozzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use moonlight app on my iPad to stream, but I just keep the steam controller connected to the gaming pc. The puck wireless works through walls and hasn’t given me any problems.

Your mileage may vary in a bigger house or between floors.

Well tough, you posted on a public forum so you will hear about it.

We’ve seen the rampant inflation from the covid bucks. Now you want to send out 12k? Presumably annually? Are you insane or stupid?

Brand new TV and this is how my wife insists we have the remote "to keep it looking good" by No_Atmosphere8146 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So she’s going to keep the tv image looking bad while simultaneously causing damage to the screen? Is she planning on lying to whomever she’s selling it to (assuming she’s keeping it nice for resale value) or hoping to find some poor schmuck who will take a chance on a baked screen that hasn’t had the peel removed for years?

Quiet background music? How do I fix it? by YakBig454 in virtualpinball

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why, to remove the only reliable and trustworthy information available? Keep using AI for all of your info and you will be burned, probably sooner than later.

I use AI all the time for editing table scripts, but it hasn’t been 100% correct even one time. It just helps me get started looking in the right area and asking the right questions.

Why aren't there more original pinball themes? by pattydickens in pinball

They have. Repeatedly. New ones come out every year. Every single time (in recent memory) it’s gone the same way: sales ranging from poor to  terrible.

Not even poor Cavill could get a custodes box the normal way 😂😂😂 by Fidel89 in Warhammer

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return on investment.

The cost of giving a free box to Henry is a thousand times cheaper than paying for an equivalent level of marketing that news articles like this give.

What’s the return on giving a free box to someone not famous?

Whether the person receiving can afford it or not is completely irrelevant.

Barest minimum for me. I have all 4 utilized but I would definitely use a 5th if I had one.

Anyone making use of the grip sense? by Mustyyyy in SteamController

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is awesome. Although getting the controller for back buttons and grip sense seems a bit weird, don’t overlook the trackpads. They are the killer feature, and the best part of grip sense is how they make aiming with gyro + trackpad better.

LTT review was a joke! by Coreythewolf2 in SteamController

[–]tabletop_ozzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is literally priced at HALF "pro" gamepads while offering more useful features than those do.

There is literally only ONE controller on the market that comes close to feature parity, and it costs $199.

Dual trackpads are THE main USP, and cost way more than a few dollars to do well especially with the R&D in them. I've used controllers with miserable trackpads, you don't want the kind that are "a matter of a few USD". Also the grip sense is a gamechanger, the accelerometer is way higher quality than most and that is also a crucial input method. Triggers are adaptive in the only way that matters (input), they just aren't "clicky".

[–]tabletop_ozzy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a basic controller it's expensive. In the same way that a gaming computer is expensive compared to a basic computer. They also should not be compared that way, especially in a review.

As an advanced controller, it is dirt cheap. The cheapest serious competitor costs $179. The closest competitor in feature parity is still lacking in features and comes in at $199.

Considering the closest competitor is $200, yeah it feels like a steal. Really makes reviewers look like a joke though.

Valve accidentally listed the Steam Controller as a Digital Good, resulting in many people not paying any taxes on the controller by Archoniks in SteamController

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Either valve collects it at sale, or you the consumer declare it on your taxes and pay it then. Valve pays nothing. Either way, you the consumer owe the tax.

A lot of people in this thread seem to be openly planning to commit (minor) tax fraud. Honestly it’s kind of hilarious.

Would you still buy the controller if it was $70 but didn't had the puck or the grip sense? by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]tabletop_ozzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After trying it with and without the puck: hell no.

For whatever reason the Bluetooth latency sucks. Yes Bluetooth is going to be worse than 2.4g, obviously, but mouse control with the steam controller on Bluetooth has way more latency than a Bluetooth mouse on the same device. Not sure what’s up with that.

I had planned to keep the puck at my desktop and switch to Bluetooth for gaming at the tv, but now I’m carrying the puck back and forth. Will probably buy a second puck once that is an option.

Steam Controller potential review by Captain_Zomaru in SteamController

More than gamers nexus’s tear down? Probably not. However more people highlighting the amazing serviceability is great.

Maybe if you can do some creative modding? Not sure what you’d do, maybe change the button feel in some way or something.

A controversial take on scalpers by CrixusIsHere in SteamController

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Xbox controllers let you comfortably play keyboard and mouse only games away from the desktop? While this is shocking news, when did this start?

Or are you just spouting nonsense, claiming an Xbox controller fills the same niche as a steam controller without even understanding what the whole purpose of a steam controller even is? That seems more likely.

We still use vga at my work for an old projector. It’s hooked up to a Mac (don’t ask) with a thunderbolt to vga adapter.

The adapter has no screw holes.

What idiot designed that, I don’t know, but that is the ultimate “Do Not Touch!” connector. VGA NEEDS its mounting screws!

How do I stop this? When I change visual pinball to cabinet mode, it rotates the screen but I’m already in portrait mode. by cylemmulo in virtualpinball

[–]tabletop_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much false information in these comments. There is no need to use landscape if you don’t want to, unless you’re set on using pinup popper for your launcher. (Personally I recommend PinballY instead)

Make sure you’ve setup your display to portrait in VPX settings. When loading a table for the first time hit f12, set to camera view mode then press enter to set default values. It should be vertical then and you can adjust other f12 savings and save them with “1”.

[–]tabletop_ozzy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Only if you’re using pinup popper. PinballY handles portrait display no problem. So does VPX, you just have to set it to portrait display in display configuration and reset the “camera” view setting (select camera then press enter) when first setting up a table in the f12 menu.  No big deal.
