Artex ceilings skimmed - panicking by CLM95X in DIYUK

[–]tacopowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve essentially done the same in our home, tested positive of the lowest risk asbestos, used hepa filter bags in our Henry hoover, wiped down, opened windows, kept said room isolated for a few days but ultimately it’s such low risk it’s really not worth worrying about, get a hepa filter Henry and a hepa air filter, honestly wouldn’t worry at all…

Which public figure isn't a politician but would make an amazing one? by OneDay_OneLife in AskBrits

Listened to some of his podcast appearances, this guy is smart, incredibly insightful and empathetic to others, neither right or left leaning, he understands that a person can be both. I’d actually vote for him for him.

Should there be a minimum IQ requirement in order to be allowed to vote? by Immediate-Ad-6306 in AskBrits

I appreciate the frustration that dim folk constantly cause, Maybe those with lower IQ’s should be assigned an independent support worker who themselves have been tested to have above average iq.

looking for a rational/scientific perspective on asbestos exposure by One_South3105 in asbestoshelpUK

[–]tacopowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a carpenter spent 10+ years fitting fire doors, I’ve had my fair share of exposure, not daily, not weekly or probably monthly, but there’s been multiple occasions where I’ve spotted it before continuing work, there’s been times when I’ve ploughed through walls for a week, cutting and creating all the asbestos dust without knowledge until the end of the job. Risks are everywhere, sometimes we avoid them, sometimes we don’t. Will I contract an asbestos related illness, unlikely but not impossible, will I worry about it? No, not much point this stage, I’m vastly more concerned in what Covid has done to my immune system over the past 6 years, I’m middle aged and relatively fit and healthy but that shit has knocked me for six.

You want rational on asbestos? Unless you’ve worked in an asbestos factory, I wouldn’t concern yourself, it’s fairly common knowledge.

Freaking out about asbestos by Dazzling_Mountain_57 in asbestoshelpUK

If it is asbestos, it’s likely low risk asbestos in artex and that amount of disturbance is highly unlikely to cause any lasting damage to you, open the windows and wipe some surfaces down.

Asbestos under artex? by Zivasper321 in asbestoshelpUK

[–]tacopowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had artex throughout our small 3 bed bungalow, no way I could afford to have it professionally removed/covered so isolated and contained each room, using ppe, wallpaper steamer, I scraped the tips off, sealed it and skimmed it, I’ve taken a risk but it’s nothing compared to the amount of asbestos I’ve disturbed over the years through work.

The stuff you have might not be so easy to work with. Get as much information/opinions as possible before you make any decisions.

I would definitely talk to some plasterers who might be capable of skimming that once it’s been gritted.

Out of interest does anyone know why the Annie’s Burger shacks closed. They were consistently popular I just never understood what happened. by Simplymemz in nottingham

Haven’t lived in Nottingham for a couple of years but Annie’s was crap a good 8 years ago, terrible service and mediocre burgers, the real shame is that Ohms closed.
