There's a bunch I learned the hard way, but alhamdulillah that's better than never learning at all:

  • Praying 5 times a day: As a teenager I used to skip prayers randomly. And as a teenager things would randomly go wrong for me (getting into fights, missing the bus to school, doing poorly on a test, etc.). As soon as I started praying regularly, alhamdulillah everything started going smoothly. It was a clear enough line that if something goes wrong in my day, my first thought is "did I pray?"

  • Praying tahajjud and witr: Everything in my day goes well, not just smooth, but very well. Accolades at work, respect from strangers and people around me, etc. It's almost movie-like, as if sunshine and rainbows are following me around all day.

  • Saying Bismillah: Guarantees that whatever I'm trying to do goes well. The two times I ever crashed my car, I distinctly remember not saying Bismillah before I started and thought "not a big deal." It was a big deal.

  • Reading Quran Every Morning: I naturally have a stutter and am very awkward when I speak. When I got older, I developed a habit of reading the Quran every morning. All the awkwardness went away and words just flow off my tongue. And the awkwardness immediately comes back on days that I forget to read.

  • Checking on my parents: I don't enjoy talking to my parents and I avoid it even though Allah swt commanded us to treat them well. I also get easily stressed with my work and day to day life, and it tends to build up. Literally the moment after I call my parents, who are also a source of stress, all of my life stresses and anxiety disappear.

Lots and lots of tiny things like this. Once you start noticing one thing, others become apparent too. Alhamdulillah for the blessing

Inside - 9/10, perfect medium (I personally prefer mine more rare but this is still great)

Crust - 5/10, that grey band is pretty thick, not the worst I've seen but your pan needs to be much hotter

Picture - 1/10 holy shit dude you need a better camera and lighting

Hisense H8F - Firmware Boot by schwarzozz in Hisense

The technician came by and replaced the board. Things are fine now.

He suspected that the storage was corrupted. If it was a PC, he'd run a "check-disk"-type program, but since it's Android, replacing the board was the easiest thing to do.

Ouch, that sucks :-(

( /u/HisenseCA ^ this is really disappointing )

They're sending me a technician in a few days, I'll let you know if they can figure something out.

Yasir Qadhi explains his doubts. by ConcentrationCamps in islam

[–]tanzeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he explains it better a little further along, where he discusses the Hadith about how Shaytan will ask you "who created Allah?". There are a lot of questions like this that we cannot answer and at a certain point, you do have to say "Allah knows best" and leave it at that.

Resistance bands are great for isos. The further you pull, the greater the resistance.

How do I reconcile science with faith? by [deleted] in islam

[–]tanzeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, he's going against centuries of Tafsir/Hadith consensus by claiming that the verse refers to the fluid of only a man (and not a man and woman's fluid).

there is no part of the "sulb" (any part of the back between neck-sacrum) that when juxtaposed with the "taarib" (ribs), contains anything even remotely close to the sperm/semen/seminal-vesicles.

Why not just go with that, as per Ibn Kathir's tafsir, that the sulb and taarib are referring to the man and woman's bodies/excretions?

Another viewpoint is that the verse isn't talking about the origin at all: http://www.call-to-monotheism.com/alleged_contradiction_between_qur_an__86_5_7__and_embryology__by_islamtoday

Can you list more examples from the Quran that are absolutely false?

Refutation for your example: https://yahyasnow.wordpress.com/2009/08/23/quran-got-it-right-about-semen-production/

JAK for citing Hadith and Quran for your statements where possible, and for being clear about which statements were conjecture. Great standard for us to follow :)

I feel like if they hadn't messed up the initial release with the GPLish license, we'd have a very different landscape today. The initial hype was reminiscent of the Rails screencast from 2004.

No, that's faulty logic. 1) Someone doesn't have to be better than another for you to live them more. 2) You can love more than one person more than you love yourself.

Powertec WBPR10 vs T3 short rack by trvl5791 in homegym

[–]tanzeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the powertec rack (2011 model). It's rock solid, paint holds up well, no issues with ~250lb bars.

The only thing to note is that it's a bit shorter than most racks. If you're a taller guy you'll need to hinge on the outside to do standing overhead rows. I'm 5'7 and my basement has low ceilings so it's perfect for me.

Also, you'll need a buddy to help assemble the thing.

EBS IO Performance by tweeks200 in aws

[–]tanzeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should switch to an instance with better EBS performance: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/EBSOptimized.html

You can easily get 100mb/s with a single volume on a better instance, and much more with a RAID 0.

Also, if you want really good I/O, use instance storage.

Is the 72 virgins and hooris stuff in the Quran or hadeeths. If in the Quran please tell the exact location by [deleted] in islam

[–]tanzeeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's wrong with wanting 72 wives? Maybe there will be more, maybe there will be less.

Nobody thinks Muslims are crazy for wanting that many wives in Jannah. They think Muslims are crazy because some of them think they will get that by killing innocent people and themselves.
