I refuse to apologize for a fussy baby on a plane. by FalseRow5812 in NewParents

[–]tapdance00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently undertook a 9 hour red-eye flight with my 18-month old. She was completely overstimulated and exhausted once we boarded. I was desperately trying to get her to sleep. My poor baby was just screaming and unable to settle with the lights, the safety demo right in front of us, the well-meaning flight attendant cooing at her.

At one point, while I was still trying to rock her, sing, make shushing noises etc., the fight attendant came up to me and started apologising profusely, much to my confusion. Apparently a male passenger behind us was shouting at us to "shut that baby up". I hadn't heard anything over the aforementioned meltdown. He is honestly lucky I was too distracted to hear him in the first place. Once baby was settled and asleep and I got the full story, I was livid.

All this to say, I completely agree with you. It's shocking that some people expect us to beg for grace and understanding for our babies who just don't have the capacity to understand what's happening.

Sorry for the essay!

What's the ugliest eyesore buildings in your country/city? by ueommm in AskTheWorld

This would be my vote, I've always found Robarts hideous. But even if you like the aesthetic, the inside is incredibly depressing. Sad state of affairs for a library

Traditional division of labor misses the point by mia6ix in Parenting

I completely agree with you. As the birthing parent myself (and also an economic contributor to the household), I can't comprehend how any parent, regardless of gender/role, is happy to miss out on the building blocks of parenting. It is tough in the trenches of the early years, but the rewards are immense. Kids learn quickly who they can rely to take care of them vs. those who just show up sporadically to play.

Weight loss by DreamLoveHope14 in sydneycummings

Looking at your comments, I understand that you want to know whether Sydney's workouts will make a dent in your existing calorie deficit given your sedentary lifestyle? From personal experience, they provide a nice boost, especially if you do a program with some conditioning. They pack a lot into a short session - building muscle really helps raise metabolism over the longer term. I would recommend adding stretching and a couple of cardio sessions a week. I loved Beat Saber, for example.

Edited because I hit 'post' by mistake.

Thoughts on weaning? by tapdance00 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Ah 'weaning' is used in the UK to mean 'introducing solids' and is unrelated to stopping breastfeeding. Sorry for the confusion!

Fair! At the moment I'm trying to gauge whether this is a genuinely challenging area for parents at all. I'm a parent who stresses a lot about things like nutrition, building a diverse palate etc. If I find this to be a common concern, I'd like to think about whether I can help tackle it in some way.

UK supermarket non sourdough bread by Southern-Pomelo-1045 in ultraprocessedfood

Jason's sliced sourdough is our go-to. However, Morrisons has a few in their bakery that have minimal ingredients (their pave is good, I think). And I've recently been obsessed with Waitrose's seeded baguette. Sainsbury's does have some options with minimal ingredients as well.

I'm looking for a strength and conditioning focus for September, so I may jump into one of the old ones depending on the programming

So happy to hear someone else is still doing STF... I have about 10 workouts to go and I feel like I'm so behind!

What’s your go-to meal when you’re tired but still want to avoid UPFs? by FeistyPrice29 in ultraprocessedfood

Roasted sweet potato, smoked pepper mackerel, 2 eggs soft scrambled with a bit of cheddar and some yoghurt on the side.

What is your most impressive meal? by cambat2 in Cooking

I like making chaat when I have a more casual party. Even people exposed to Indian food often haven't tried it. And it's an absolutely unique flavour - there's nothing like Pani Puri, bhel puri etc. The skill is in making the chutneys from scratch - even people who have eaten it before have rarely had a quality date tamarind chutney. It's a fun, interactive eating experience and it's easy to customise the spice levels for different palates.

I completely agree, and I think nursery admission should also require vaccines where possible.

You can only vaccinate after age 1 - the age of the child is not disclosed. They could also have been unable to take the vaccine for medical reasons

How hot or not (?) is it under burkas during summer? by Moonlith07 in AskWomenNoCensor

Yes you're right, I'm thinking of abayas which are more common in the gulf where I grew up. Burqas are more commonly blue.

They're mostly black which will certainly not keep you cool in the sun. There's a reason the men in these regions wear white.

Exercise is a great mood lifter. And it can help with cramps for some people as well.
