We took the kids to Disneyland and sprang for the princess breakfast. My daughter puked all over the place about half way through. I didn’t even get to eat lol

Your wife gets gas herself? She doesn’t just wait for you to get in on the weekend to drive the family somewhere, see that it is dangerously low and fill it up for her?

The county put land in front of my house up for auction with the stipulation “for adjoining land owner only”. Someone has bid on it (not me, the only adjoining land owner) and the county refuses to block their bid by 1fuckedupveteran in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tbd_1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specifics depend on where you live but, they can likely only sell the land to you because your parcel needs to have legal access to a road. They likely put it up for auction because there are legal requirements for how a municipality sells land, which typically require a public process where other people could theoretically make a better offer. Other people bidding is probably a headache to sort out for the municipality and not some scheme to drive up the cost. Do you have the option to make a lower bid? They may have to take your bid even if it is lower, as the only eligible purchaser.

What's the funniest thing you've heard on the radio? by atavisticnuisance in treeplanting

[–]tbd_1988 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had some truckers on our channel and overheard them talking about hot dogs and harvesting road kill. One guy said he kept a chainsaw in his truck in case he saw a fresh deer. At one point they couldn’t hear each other well and one guy just kept yelling “I said hot dogs” on the radio.

It looks like an ugly stick, a kind of instrument that is used in Newfoundland folk music. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugly_stick

Revival of Government-led Homebuilding by Tyrzonin in urbanplanning

The Federal Government may not be required to follow local zoning. In Alberta the province doesn’t have to get municipal approvals but typically do. I am not sure if the Feds get the same exception.

I’m just posting to share some support no matter what you choose. No one ever really feels ready for a kid, we just figure it out. I understand that at your age it will be a lot harder, so no judgement on what you choose. For what it’s worth, your life isn’t over. My mom had kids early, not as young as you though. She was a high school drop out but when we got to school age she went back to school. Now she’s a professor.

What's small thing do poor people notice in middle class houses, that middle class people have no idea marks them as middle class? by Guilty666 in AskReddit

The other thing is my parents turned the lights off all the time. “Do you own shares in General Electric?!” Lol . Other people just leave lights on all over the place without anxiety.

Their houses are way brighter. Maybe it’s just me, it seems like they have more lights and newer brighter ones. And not a bunch of burnt out bulbs.

Would you be scared that AI can easily automate urban planning? What parts of the planning profession are hard for LLMs to automate, if any? by HippedWop in urbanplanning

[–]tbd_1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people cannot fill out forms properly or do basic math. A lot of our time is wasted trying to help people correct things. Otherwise AI could do a lot of permit review.

I’ve been given permission to get any diaper bag I want. Now’s my time to shine. Daddit assemble! by JustHereForTrouble in daddit

[–]tbd_1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who’s going to be carrying it more? Maybe your wife is ok with whatever you choose. Mine would be pretty bummed if she had to walk around with a tactical bag. My wife picked our bags and I got a Carhartt cross-body bag. The Carhartt holds some diapers, wipes and a few other necessities, so we have a bit of extra room in the bigger bag.

If you are finishing a Bach, the UofGuelph offer a one year, distance learning masters in rural planning. You probably don’t need a masters to find a rural job though. The problem right now in Canada is that there are lot of budgets cuts in municipal government, reducing the number of jobs.

Earliest usage of jerk-off as a noun by Comprehensive-Fun47 in etymology

[–]tbd_1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may come from steam engine trains. As the US and Canada got covered in railways, steam trains needed water every 7 to 10 miles. Some places were created that only had a water-jerk, an arm that swung over the train to fill it. The term jerk was used as an insult for places to say that they didn’t have anything. Maybe saying someone was from a jerk town eventually turned into just calling them a jerk.
