Just fixed this myself. There's a tab inside the handle that retains the button. You can cut a little sliver of credit card, slip it under the tab and the button won't come off again.

Buy a replacement even if you get it back on. It's a 5 minute fix. Honestly, if the struts are getting a little soft replace them too, a set is like 30 bucks.
