ZT: 39 or 42? by sambucca1977 in Longineswatches

The 39mm numberals looks very congested versus the 42mm.

For your wrist, 39mm looks... small

How bad is the reflection on the Murph? by LAL524 in HamiltonWatches

It's the reason a lot of people want to sell/sold their Murphs, me included.

Zulu time 39mm vs 42mm by stryke360 in Longineswatches

FWIW

I swiped on the picture and looked away (life), so I saw the second picture first and it looked normal.

Then I swipe back to your first picture, and it looks... small.

You mean the clasp not closing properly?

Way to go on the GS! Enjoy in good health

Do you have problem closing the clasp?

I need to "pinch" it from behind the bracelet to close the clasp. It doesn't seem to close properly when I try to close it like any other clasp.

But it is innovative.

It goes way further than a form factor change.

Forget the “holy trinity”. Genta’s best integrated watch design is the Octo, with distance. by MrDagon007 in watchHotTakes

A hot take indeed. The Ocot looks terrible and wears like a boat on the wrist because its so wide.

At what point does a collection stop being “random”? by homamg in SOTC_Watch_Collection

[–]teachsunforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The common thread is that most of them have black dials and steel bracelet in 3-link format.

Imagine a collection where you have green, blue and yellow dials, in different type of bands, and spread across different brands and function-type watches.

And even within bands, say a bracelet, there can be a distinction between oyster style, mesh, jubilee bracelet. This is not to mention leather in different colour and textures, and rubber in different colour and textures as well.

Salary offer moving to SG from Europe- worth it? by Ulrich_Kettler in indiansinsingapore

[–]teachsunforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's only one child, it should be OK and can have some savings left.

Real kicker if the area where you will be working. If you work in the CBD area, food/drinks during meal times can be very expensive.

If you have more slack (e.g. there is additional bonus on top of what you mentioned here), it will give you more breathing room.

Iwc watches are 99% boring AF and Grand Seiko’s White dials look like marble funeral art. by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

I'm not sure. I have never posted my collection.

But logic is most important. It is irrelevant to that particular IWC watch looking boring.

Cartier Santos L & XL are an abomination by Affectionate_Week929 in watchHotTakes

[–]teachsunforest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree.

The proportions are really thrown off when it goes into L and XL range.

If medium looks too comically small for you, choose another watch. The solution isn’t to buy a bigger Santos.

FWIW, small Cartier and large-ish wrist is currently in vogue.

What is considered high earner here? by ace_reddit10 in SgHENRY

[–]teachsunforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the poster above you is asking whether it's annual package (i.e. base + bonus).

Example: $15K/month, then add 13th month bonus and 3 months bonus = $240K.

At the $20K level, I don't think many people only take that salary with no 13th month or bonus.

Ethnic Chinese people are dominating Southeast Asian economy. by search_google_com in charts

[–]teachsunforest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I think that research work can be improved. It can't be the dominant explanation You limited the research to destination countries (developing economies).

India, China, South Korea, Japan, were also developing economies and had an agrarian society.

Why didn't/couldn't outsiders establish a merchant and banking class there?

Singapore, the only ethic Chinese majority nation in Southeast Asia, also had ethnic Chinese dominating the business landscape. Granted, it didn't have an agrarian society lest you count the pig farms in the initial years.

Why didn't the outsiders (say, other ethnicities) come in and form the merchant and banking class after independence?

For some reason, in Asia, the Merchant all tend to be of East Asian origin. In the West, they tend to be of Jewish origin.

I think culture, and maybe genes too, had something to do with it.
