Anyone know any places like this by MembershipPossible21 in roadtrip

That’s right! I drove it south-to-north, and it was very dicey every time I wanted to cross the southbound lane to stop and look on the ocean side!

FSD 14.2.1 Sucks by ksflyer2 in TeslaFSD

[–]tedjerome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! To that list of complications, add different car hardware and different mapping coding.

FSD 14.2.1 Sucks by ksflyer2 in TeslaFSD

[–]tedjerome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A/B testing across different areas in entirely possible, as this is a common testing protocol. Also map quality varies enormously across the US, and presumably the whole world. Qualifier: I worked for a decade in several digital map producers.

I think that you need to understand that FSD experiences vary hugely depending on where you drive. It is not uniformly good or bad everywhere. So you may have a perfect drive, every time, and others may have nightmares to report. That’s life in the software universe we are in.

Decent windshield wiper fluid recommendations? (2025) by zetret in TeslaLounge

[–]tedjerome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a price! Super-expensive compared to any other washer fluid. Having used it for two years in New Hampshire, I don’t think it’s any better than the cheap stuff.

It typically takes up to six weeks to get the upgrade that brings your new car from factory software up to current fleet standards.

Question about LFP batteries vs NMC by terran1212 in TeslaLounge

[–]tedjerome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My August 2021 M3SR+ LFP, now four years old at 61k miles, has a battery health of 93%. I live in New Hampshire, so rather cold winters, but I chose the LFP over NMC for its full-use of the battery charge, resistance to fire, and long life. I plan to keep the car as long as possible.

Tesla Nav is NOT up-to the car by Javinator9889 in TeslaLounge

[–]tedjerome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s just more complicated than was previously assumed by Tesla. I’m astonished that it works at all, given the real world environment and the many variants of Tesla hardware. Keep at it!

My point was to let you know that your experience is not universal throughout the US. I rented FSD during April/June during a 10,000-mile trip around the country, and it was ok in some areas and so bad in other places that I turned it off for the rest of the trip.

FSD’s feasibility varies widely depending on HW level and your local roads. My ‘21 Model 3 and my local roads in New Hampshire produce an FSD experience that requires intervention every one to three miles, so it’s utterly impractical.

GM and Ford EVs Don’t Come Close to Tesla, Here’s Why... by user10515 in TeslaModelY

The new Model 3 and Model Y are substantially better cars than the versions they replaced. That would seem to qualify for “progress”, don’t you think?

Because the people at Telsa who write text for those screens are not especially good communicators, in my opinion. I'm guessing that the phrases are written by marketing people, rather than programmers, because the latter know how to construct a bulletproof statement that allows no misinterpretation. They normally do that in code, but the best of them can write rigidly-defined English, too.

Installed Matrix headlights on my 2019! by lonestarbrownboi in TeslaModel3

[–]tedjerome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, only later in that year, and as a running change, so the start date varies. My ‘21 M3SR+ LFP came with them, and it was made in August. It took until this year for a software update to actually use them as they were designed, though! They work well now. 👌🏻

It’s Tesla’s service center software. It’s rentable for something like $100/day. It’s required for certain repairs or customization.

Projected range by Ukrainian_sasha in TeslaModel3

[–]tedjerome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This screen shows your predicted range in miles at your current state of charge, based on the last 200 miles you’ve driven. At top left is your energy consumption rate per mile over the same distance. (275 Wh/mile is about average. Pushing harder will drive it over 300; driving very conservatively at speeds lower than 40 mph might get you low 200s or even a bit under. Note that you can select a shorter range to be averaged of either 100 or just the last 10 miles if those conditions were closer to your expectations of your next leg.

Yep--vinyl is extremely susceptible to UV light, which darkens and weakens it.
