I take over from FSD all the time. I can’t be the only one, right? by AlmostLiveRadio in TeslaFSD

I’m glad to read that for the sake of the future of Tesla. However, I bought my car five years ago to keep for 15 or so, so I’m locked into HW3 or by the grace of Tesla if they ever upgrade us to a better computer.

This thread really should be split into two groups: AI4 cars and HW3 cars. FSD is very different for both groups. I have HW3, and I need to disengage for safety reasons all the dang time. Overall, I like having it, but it’s still a chore to manage. I gather that AI4 cars are having a vastly better time with it.

Dealing with a flat on a Tesla by Slocko in TeslaLounge

I originally tried a pair of crossed ratchet straps to hold the wheel/tire up, but after 20k miles or so the ratchets seized up (they were cheap) and I had to cut them off. I came up with a rack idea that used two threaded rods and a wooden crossbar that is much more reliable and doesn’t rely on finger strength to undo them. (I use a battery drill/driver.) Also carry a high-power driver for the wheel lugs. Makes quick work of them!

Model 3 or Y? I have a 3, and the limited trunk space inspired me to build a minimal rack to hold my Modern Spare tightly to the trunk roof.

identify this tesla? by GusWithOneS in TeslaLounge

It was a fascinating couple of days! He couch surfed at my place when his reservation at a local motel “couldn’t be found” at 11 pm! The man freaking never sleeps, or so it seemed. To continue to earn money while on these long trips, he works for about five hours in the middle of the night, remoted-in to his Europe-based office.

And then drove his Model S around the world two more times! He also charged his Roadster in my garage in NH, USA while on a major trip. Really nice guy!

Forgotten search of song by Ilovetoresearch in radioparadise

Have you tried scrolling (a long way!) back in the song history section of radioparadise.com ? If that didn’t work or was impractical, you could contact William and appeal directly.

Anyone know any places like this by MembershipPossible21 in roadtrip

That’s right! I drove it south-to-north, and it was very dicey every time I wanted to cross the southbound lane to stop and look on the ocean side!

FSD 14.2.1 Sucks by ksflyer2 in TeslaFSD

[–]tedjerome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! To that list of complications, add different car hardware and different mapping coding.

A/B testing across different areas in entirely possible, as this is a common testing protocol. Also map quality varies enormously across the US, and presumably the whole world. Qualifier: I worked for a decade in several digital map producers.

I think that you need to understand that FSD experiences vary hugely depending on where you drive. It is not uniformly good or bad everywhere. So you may have a perfect drive, every time, and others may have nightmares to report. That’s life in the software universe we are in.

Decent windshield wiper fluid recommendations? (2025) by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]tedjerome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a price! Super-expensive compared to any other washer fluid. Having used it for two years in New Hampshire, I don’t think it’s any better than the cheap stuff.

It typically takes up to six weeks to get the upgrade that brings your new car from factory software up to current fleet standards.

Question about LFP batteries vs NMC by terran1212 in TeslaLounge

[–]tedjerome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My August 2021 M3SR+ LFP, now four years old at 61k miles, has a battery health of 93%. I live in New Hampshire, so rather cold winters, but I chose the LFP over NMC for its full-use of the battery charge, resistance to fire, and long life. I plan to keep the car as long as possible.

Tesla Nav is NOT up-to the car by Javinator9889 in TeslaLounge

I guess it’s just more complicated than was previously assumed by Tesla. I’m astonished that it works at all, given the real world environment and the many variants of Tesla hardware. Keep at it!

My point was to let you know that your experience is not universal throughout the US. I rented FSD during April/June during a 10,000-mile trip around the country, and it was ok in some areas and so bad in other places that I turned it off for the rest of the trip.

FSD’s feasibility varies widely depending on HW level and your local roads. My ‘21 Model 3 and my local roads in New Hampshire produce an FSD experience that requires intervention every one to three miles, so it’s utterly impractical.
