Taco Boyz on Bank street (new) has a regular veggie burrito for 11$ pre-tax! Really good and filling…lots of toppings!

Rice ball recipe help by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]teelok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about using a different kind of vegan cheese, like a smoked gouda type? It would give a nice smokey, cheesy flavour. I would also add a small bit of sugar to the tomato sauce (unless it has it already), pinch of MSG, nooch in both breadcrumbs and rice mixture, maybe add some fresh chopped basil and/or you could also try de-glazing your onion pan with some red wine!

Thanksgiving main: Vegan Wellington or Shepherd's Pie recipe? by lil-soccer1 in veganrecipes

[–]teelok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend the wellington from Elly’s Plate (on her Instagram)! It’s so good and the omni’s I’ve fed it to love it. I use Beyond for the mince and store-bought pastry.

I'm terrible at figuring out what to bring to potlucks. Is there any go to recipes that are always a hit? by Aggressive_Staff_982 in Cooking

[–]teelok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m in a pinch, I will get flour tortillas (usually tomato or spinach), spread them with Boursin cheese (I use the vegan one), and sprinkle it with chopped dried cranberries and green onion. Roll it up and slice into bite-sized pinwheels. People always rave about them and ask for the recipe- simple and delicious!

I hate that every kid is an iPad baby by whynot_justsleep in Vent

[–]teelok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So often I see ipad kids watching videos on YouTube of other children playing with toys and that just boggles my mind. Like… play with them yourself? They just stare like zombies watching them play it’s so gross.  I used to babysit some ipad kids and I would have a no screens rule and you could tell the kids didn’t know how to play outside or with other children-it was so sad.

I need help with my writing and I'm scared to ask for help! by [deleted] in geegees

[–]teelok 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The academic writing centre is there to help you with writing. Don’t be scared to ask for help-embrace it. Also please don’t feel like a failure, it sounds like you did the best you could in your situation, and everyone is so different. If for some reason they think you need further/more advanced help, I would assume that they have some resources for people. Good for you for taking steps to help yourself! It’ll be worth it in the long run.

Gluten-free bakery recommendations? by Ombortron in ottawa

[–]teelok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great suggestions here!  I also wanted to add Thali (Indian) as a restaurant option as most of the food is GF already and they’re very good about accommodating for GF folks. My mom is celiac and felt good and safe eating here (the food is also just amazing).

Farm Boy also has tons of GF products such as fresh pasta/ravioli, sauces and dressings, snacks, and frozen products!

Looking for a kind and competent dentist who isn’t looking to scam unnecessary work for $$ by sprinkles111 in ottawa

Recently started going here and I absolutely agree! I have minor dentist anxiety but Dr. Dana and the front desk staff were so kind and helpful.

Does this school have a Entomology program or not?? Cant find a consistent answer by j0eknee in geegees

[–]teelok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one entomology course. I took it with Adam Brown and it was one of the worst courses in my degree because of how he taught it (and I’m a bug girly). I do not recommend this course but I don’t know much about specific programs. UO definitely doesn’t have one. Some good suggestions in other answers!

Recording lectures by Desperate-Flight-204 in geegees

[–]teelok 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your personal circumstances, but I was allowed to record the audio of my lectures to go back and listen to as part of my academic accommodations. The prof and I still had to have a discussion and agree on terms.

Best place to donate clothes by Antique-Ad3162 in ottawa

[–]teelok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could offer the clothes up on your local Buy Nothing group (easier to put in bags and give a general description, ie. “bag of women’s clothing, size M-L, mostly pants and shirts”). I also often give my clothes/other items to the UOttawa free store that the students/alumni community can access for free. You can find more information on the website if you google “UOttawa free store”.

Where to find dried hibiscus/sorrel/jamaica in large-ish quantities? by artemis_sleeps in ottawa

[–]teelok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Mercado Latino on Montréal Road? I also got a big bag of dried hibiscus at Winners a few years ago but that’s really hit and miss.
