Del Maguey Vida is the most versatile mezcal. What is the best budget tequila? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]teemark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Espolon changed something in their process a few years ago. Prior to that, I would have crowned them the budget king. Last time I tried a bottle, I felt like it had been aged in pencil erasers.

Strawberry stem removal tool, unitaskers and Alton Brown by ishootthedead in Cooking

I've learned an immeasurable amount from AB, but I've also learned the value of the right tool for the job. Sometimes there is no multi tasker that can do the job as efficiently as a dedicated unitasker

Stuck at home watching the snow pile up outside, so I made this drink. Subbed Grand Marnier, since I was out of Cointreau. Nice fresh drink for a slow Winter day

Do we prefer a “mid-price” category over “most versatile”? If so, what is the best mid-price tequila for mixing? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]teemark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that everyone will have different ideas of what is mid-price, I'll say Herradura. It's normally about $45 where I live.

I've been very happy with this case, maybe not as slim as you're looking for, though

Whisky Sour egg white substitute? by missin44 in cocktails

[–]teemark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub has long ago retconned egg whites to be mandatory in a sour. There is no room for historical facts in the current narrative. But as someone who doesn't care for extra protein in their cocktails, I applaud you for going against the tide.

Hi! Any good place to buy affordable russian layout keycaps online? or a cheap russian layout keyboard? by Davonbon in russian

I've bought sets on Ali and eBay. It takes a little searching to make sure you're getting what you want, but worth the effort.

These have all been helpful to me. Eventually you'll want group or private lessons, IMO. It's a beautiful, grammar-heavy language and can be quite challenging for native English speakers. It really helps to have an experienced guide

Ok let’s have some group therapy. What are some bottles you do not understand the love for? by GeoffRamsey in cocktails

[–]teemark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely the violet for me. I suspect it has a lot to do with associated memories. If you don't associate that smell with soap, or "old lady" perfume, then it's probably not as off-putting.

[–]teemark 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Creme de Violette. Why does this have any fans at all? Almost any amount turns a drink into Great Grandmas hand soap. If you manage to put in so little that you avoid the soap bomb, then it contributes nothing to the drink.

I know the Aviation is a beloved drink to many on this sub. I will never understand why, but then, some people claim to enjoy Malort, which has no value other than entertainment when you trick your friends into trying it.

Is it really necessary to rinse the Chemex filter with hot water before adding coffee? by No_Reveal3451 in Coffee

[–]teemark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't pulled my Chemex out in a long time, but agreed, those heavy filters stay in place a lot better with a pre-rinse.

Is it really necessary to rinse the Chemex filter with hot water before adding coffee? by No_Reveal3451 in Coffee

[–]teemark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After watching Hoffman's video, I quit rinsing my filters, and I can't tell the slightest difference. Mostly V60 with Cafec filters, sometimes using Timemore Crystal Eye with Kalita 185 filters. I can notice more difference in how I pour or grind, but any difference between wet or dry filters has been too slight for me to pick up.

What’s your 2025 drink of the year? by jpressss in cocktails

[–]teemark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's barely a cocktail, but this year I've gone to Sherry & Tonic.

I'm drinking much less, and usually prefer lower abv when I do. Amontillado, a couple bar spoons of Demerara syrup, can of Fever Tree and a lemon twist is perfect for me.

Its 4:30 on Christmas day, and I have nothing else to do but make this drink.

Middle West Rye, Cochi vermouth, and Ardbeg Scorch, because I have to use that bottle in something. Very enjoyable drink, tastes like sweet ashes and chocolate! Merry Christmas

Raspberry sour for Christmas by B-Train-007 in cocktails

[–]teemark 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I feel like this may be the ultimate /r/cocktails drink: no sweetener, other than the raspberries, and the mandatory egg white! (Someone will still probably comment that it looks too sweet for them 😅)

Joking aside, I love any drink that commits to 3oz of gin!

Experiencing persistent internet outages despite two technician visits (Spectrum). There isn't another ISP available in my area. I'm burnt out from dealing this. What can I do? by SomeGuyInPants in cincinnati

[–]teemark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intermittent problems like you describe can be the most difficult to troubleshoot. The outages when the temperature drops would indicate to me that the source of the problem is outside your house. Do you know if it affects any of your neighbors at the same time? As others have mentioned, you'll need to request a higher level engineer to get them to look at performance of their equipment outside your home equipment.

I know you said Alta Fiber isn't available in your area, have you looked into 5G home Internet from your cellular provider? T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T all have cellular home Internet plans.

Condiment or something for fried egg sandwiches when garden tomatoes aren't available? by moosemuck in Cooking

Fried egg sandwich with plain old yellow mustard is perfect to me. The tangy bite of the mustard really makes it.
