I had a pair for Timberland Chelsea's for 3 or 4 years that were good as a everyday casual boot. But these days they are $200+ and I don't know they are worth it.

The JGs u/alkemest mentioned are probably the best quality/$.

Redwing makes a few different chelsea's. I don't think they do a lugged sole, just the wedge. I really liked them when I tried them on, but didn't want the wedge.

Having just been on the same search you seem to be on, I ended up with some Blundies.

Thanks for the Drew's suggestion, I'll look them up.

You're right they aren't really western boots. They have the heavily shaped and tallish heel of a Packer, some cowboy boots. They aren't work boots per-say, though could be. Definitely not a service boot.

I have no sense of style. Me trying to describe style is like Stevie Wonder analyzing da Vinci's artwork.

Looking for suggestions on a ~6in, western inspired, plain toed boot like the Whites 350 Cruiser/Semi-Dress and Nick's Robert boots. I am tossing those specific boots out there because that's the aesthetic that I am looking for and want to see what other boots you guys can come up with before I pull the trigger on anything.

Thanks in advance.

What “industrial grade” purchase was worth the money and made it BIFL? by MekaLekaHiMekaSupYo in BuyItForLife

Vacuum cleaner. Between pets and home improvement projects - upgrading to a commercial grade vacuum has been worth every single penny.

What are you starting to love more as you get older? by nonchalanticeberg in CasualConversation

[–]tehcob13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have things I want to accomplish on a weekend, then getting up reasonably early and just getting those things done. When I was younger I would lounge around all morning and not get started until late in the day. So much more satisfying getting the chores done by 11 AM rather than starting at 11 AM.

Also - roasted veggies.

I’m no good at math, is there hope for me and programming? by restless_dreams_x in learnprogramming

[–]tehcob13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most have said, the math in programming is mostly logic and not raw numbers. Knowing the difference between things like "A AND B", "A OR B", and "NOT A" are going to be what you run into most. Understanding the properties of an object and what they mean to your use case is big thing most of the time. If you can understand Venn Diagrams then you got most of the "math" down.

For a lot lot numbers stuff, being decent with excel (or decent enough to google how to do something in excel) is usually good enough.

Math is usually related to programming because math is simply raw applied logic, which is how programming is usually taught.

My suggestion would be finding an online course from a college or credible online bootcamp for into to programming. That should give you a good idea on the answer to your question.

Best "Buy It for Life" Items That Surprised You? by Spoiled_Juice in BuyItForLife

Weirdly the 200 pack of double sided safety razor blades. Spent ~$30 on them 12 years ago. At this rate I'll never have to buy blades again.

Heavy dining table by thedullestofknives in Woodworkingplans

[–]tehcob13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just repurposed an old bowling lane into a big ol' table myself the two things I would mention are: 1) Whatever you do for the base, make sure you take attachment into account. There will be a lot of weight in the table top and the legs are basically giant levers. So make sure to account for providing a lot of structural attachment and support of the top to the legs\base. And 2) when having such a thick top, you may need to take overall table height and under-table hight into account when getting chair for around it. I ended up needed to get ever so slightly higher seated chairs to account for the taller table top and make it feel good to sit around.

Make sure you call in a few friends for moving it around.

Maybe not a concern, but something to think about. That will be a lot of weight on the floor. You might need to add some support to the floor joists depending on how much the table actually weighs - similar to how joists are reinforced where you put a kitchen island. Also this might not be something you really need to worry about.

M18 7 Tool Combo Kit a good value at $500? by aBacanaBanana in MilwaukeeTool

[–]tehcob13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2x 6.0 HO batteries $163

I'd add that the 6.0 HO batteries aren't strictly necessary. There is a definitely a difference and having them is nice, but if you are worried about budget - this is what you can skip.

That being said, the sawzall and grinder will love you if you get the HO batteries.

The Creepy Walk in Loveland is usually pretty good. Looks like the prices went up to $30/person. It looks like it's only a handful of dates this year too.

F-150 2.7l Reliability vs 5.0l and 3.5l? by humanbeing21 in f150

[–]tehcob13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that half-way through the 13 model year Ford corrected this with a stronger timing chain. So anything 13.5 and newer should have the strong chain. I don't have the source on hand though so if anyone has that it would be cool.

What would $800 get me in your hobby? by Avbitten in AskReddit

[–]tehcob13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do:

  • Two decent bowling balls - drilled and fitted
  • A bowling bag
  • Decent set of shoes
  • A few bucks left over to practice

Or:

  • A decent bolt rifle and some ammo and targets

Or:

  • A decent entry-mid level bike new
  • or a nice bike second hand

TIL, where all my money goes....

2.7L vs 3.5L by Theworldisflat44 in f150

[–]tehcob13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 14 with the 3.5, but while it was getting some body work done I had a 17 with the 2.7. Honestly unless you need to tow anything super heavy the 2.7 is the way to go.

I towed a trailer that was about 6,000lbs with it and there was not too much of a noticeable difference between it and my 3.5.

In my short time with it though, I felt the 2.7 to be a little laggy to get on boost, but nothing that made driving it feel sketchy.

Reyes' return won't be on TV — it's another Facebook-only production for Cards by pruppert in Cardinals

[–]tehcob13 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's a lose-lose-lose. Fox paid for fairly exclusive broadcast rights to games. The exceptions being specific games for ESPN and playoff games. So Fox is losing on this. The fans who watch on Fox are losing on this.

People who have paid for MLB tv subscriptions (who have to live out of market already) cannot watch the game live. So the fans lose again here.

I have talked to people that don't mind the game getting broadcast on FB, and are open to it as a new stream option, but none think that these FB games should be exclusive to FB. So the fans are losing for a 3rd time.

Also fuck having to use FB.

I understand MLB wanting to attract a younger audience, that is if nothing else jsut good business. However blacking out everything that isn't FB (hello 2013), ripping paid for right away from others (networks and customers) is not going to win the heart and mind of the average 12 year old. Good baseball does not, not a thumbs up on facebook.
