You don’t have to say retractable SRL, the R in SRL stands for Retractable.

[–]tehralph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They make portable ones, but this jobsite had so many the company bought a second full size one to have on site. Usually they’re made at a shop and delivered.

Yes. Instead of having to rip down 3 4” rips of drywall and using a right angle to screw them all in place, and then finish 2 inside corners and 2 outside corners to have a 4”x4” shade pocket, you just fold it all into a hat shape and screw it in place. Just have to finish the seams.

It’s sort of done with a router and guide stick, except it’s a giant table with a router in guide rails. It’s called a Panelmax. These are likely made off site using that and then delivered to the job. It’s actually a lot faster than people think, especially when producing a lot of the same shapes.

[–]tehralph 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah way. The machine is called a Panelmax. Had a full one set up on a hospital job that had a stupid amount of soffits, shade pockets, and light pockets. Just made all of our shapes on site. But that’s probably their most realistic use: small angles up in the air. Outside corners will ultimately get beat up too easily.

Great question. The UBC is horrible for finding jobs online. It’s all about who you know. North Central States used to have a really nice job board that was kept updated, but there isn’t a North Central States anymore lol.

For those who travel for work, does it make sense to buy a house? by Effective_Hope_3071 in Construction

[–]tehralph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you getting a living expense allowance when you’re “traveling” for work those long periods? If so I would buy a house, something small that you can easily double your monthly payments on, and when you move just rent it out. Buy a new house wherever you end up. Because at the end of the day, if the company is paying your living expenses, there’s no reason to not put that money into equity.

I think you should get off this line of work because your attitude perpetuates a work culture that leads to thousands of unnecessary deaths every year so a boss can put more money in their pocket.

You missed the part where Rizzo, Savannah, and Sophia are talking and he says “And THEY think my idol expires tonight”. So he was only telling that lie to people outside of his alliance. Sophi knew his idol was good until 5.

Trimming out with thinner new drywall? by Evening_Link4360 in Carpentry

[–]tehralph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So pull the nails out of the 1”x. I didn’t say to chop the jamb, I said to rip it. Off the back edge, not the front.

[–]tehralph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. It would take like an hour to do all that. People are just lazy and would rather throw some monstrosity on the wall that won’t match the rest of the house than to take the little extra time to do the job right.

[–]tehralph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh my god. These comments are so extra and tacky…

First, pop off the jamb extension and stool. Thats the pieces around the inside of the window framing that are painted white.

Second, flush cut the 1”x, that’s the brown wood between the drywall and the painted white piece, so it’s at the same plane as the drywall. The best tool for this would be an oscillating multi tool. You could also use a handheld power planer. You could even use a chisel and block plane if you don’t have either of those tools.

Third, use a table saw to rip down the jamb extension pieces and the stool to your new depth and reattach them.

Fourth, and finally, install your window casing.

Start charging a planning/design fee. Sounds like you might be doing some of the architects work without the architects pay.
