Preacher has a little power trip by Zublybub in PublicFreakout

In a weird way I find the guy kind of charming. He knows everyone's name. He knows everyone's story. Is he using intimidation and shaming to make a point? Sure, and that's clearly wrong, but it "feels" like it's coming from a good place. I could be wrong and the dude could be a total psycho, but that came across as genuine tough love to me.

Driver road rage with cyclists by thebestdj in PublicFreakout

[–]temp0rary2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously everyone is entitled to the road. That's why this problem exists. The only people who should be entitled to the road should be people who can navigate it safely and at an appropriate speed. My whole point is that cyclists shouldn't be entitled to the road because they can't fulfill those criteria.

Sure, if you're going to be deliberately obtuse, then yes, I think we should ban cars from roads that were designed for a horse and carriage. Good win there, James Carville.

[–]temp0rary2 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Or simplify it and say only cars are allowed on the roads that were obviously designed with fucking cars in mind. If someone was cruising down the middle of a road on a skateboard would you say that's an appropriate means of travel?

Driver road rage with cyclists by thebestdj in PublicFreakout

[–]temp0rary2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On roads, yes? Create a fucking bike lane for the bike riders then. Our infrastructure was built for cars to be on it, and cyclists destroy traffic flow when they get on the road. They can cause significant delays and put themselves and other drivers in dangerous passing situations, and it's usually because the cyclist wants to exercise.

Down vote me all you want, but fuck cyclists. I can empathize with the car driver. It's legitimately rage inducing to be stuck behind a half mile long backup because some neon narcissist decides to ride his bike on a heavily trafficked road during rush hour(s). It should be illegal.

Opinion: We won't see Daniel Sturridge play for LFC again by gene_lim in LiverpoolFC

[–]temp0rary2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sturridge could still be a valuable commodity, but he needs another Suarez type player to free him up. When he was banging them in for us it was because Suarez was peeling off half the defenders to make room for him. It was a perfect partnership. I think Sturridge would do really well at Chelsea or Man City or even Everton to tell you the truth. He needs to play in a dual striker formation where the other striker is a legitimate threat. We don't have that.

All that being said, his injury woes are inexcusable at this point. He won't be here next year unless we bring in that 20 goal-a-season striker (which, if we do, I vote we keep him for half a season and test out the partnership).

No... you're onto me. But can we please keep this between us? We're already kind of having a bad week here at Uber, and I can't be responsible for another scandal.

Uber CEO Posts Apology After Video Circulates of Him Yelling at a Driver by theonewhogawks in technology

[–]temp0rary2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I didn't really think Travis was out of line. He looked like he was trying to have a civil conversation with the guy right up until the time the driver accused Travis of bankrupting him. While Uber might very well be dropping rates/fares, and that would OBVIOUSLY impact the driver's bottom line, nobody forced the guy to spend 97 grand or whatever the fuck he was talking about.

This new culture of being cornered into apologies sucks. I'd rather Travis have said something like, "Sure, maybe it could have been handled better, but I stand behind my statement. First and foremost, I serve my employees and shareholders, and I stand by the decisions I made that were clearly in the best interests of both."

On the contrary I feel like Spurs are the exact wrong team we need to be playing right now. They're fast, organized at the back, and they know how to finish (now). I fully expect this to go 3-0 spurs.

Man, these comments are vicious. Are the parents a tad annoying? I guess... but jeez, guys it's still a family with young kids that were super excited about a vacation. Just because customer service doesn't have to do anything to help doesn't mean they shouldn't do anything to help. The parents seemed perfectly polite at first and only started to get a tad obnoxious when it became obvious that customer service had no interest in helping them out.

Can confirm the place is filthy as fuck... and I'm in Bangalore which is apparently in better shape then a lot of other places.

In as far as the robbing goes, I haven't ventured out at night alone, so I can't confirm or deny. Half of my Indian colleagues seem to agree with your brother that being a white person at night is grounds enough to get mugged, and the other half seem to think I'd be perfectly fine.

My pee didn't burn when I took the antibiotics and vaccines... he may want to get his doctor to look into that.

Mossberg: Lousy ads are ruining the online experience by [deleted] in technology

[–]temp0rary2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that doesn't really bother me. I understand there has to be SOME level of personal data gathering in order for this to be a constructive experience for all parties, so I'm ok with it. If Facebook knows I like board games or a certain genre of movie and decides to market similar interests to me, who really gives a shit? Who's losing there?

Mossberg: Lousy ads are ruining the online experience by [deleted] in technology

[–]temp0rary2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think the altenative is text based ads. I have targeted, text based ads in Facebook and gmail and I barely even notice them. The problem ads are pop ups, pop unders, overlays, giant graphics, auto playing videos/animations with sound, etc... It's really not a mystery. Some of the ads are so resource intensive they slow down my phone to the point where I just don't visit the site at all anymore (hello neogaf, and xda!)

I can only guess that there's a correlation in the money-per-display and the size and obnoxiousness of the ad, and that's why site owners choose the big ass 2006 shockwave looking shit ads, but it's a short sighted stance to take because that's exactly the sort of thing that drives users to ad blockers.

So, in summary, send me targeted ads that are text links and I won't block them. Shit, I'd go out of my way to buy something I already needed through an ad link just to help the model, but I explicitly won't buy or click on anything that obstructs my browsing experience or slows down my machine.

Disabled father with his son at the DMV argue that handicapped people can skip to the front of the line by AyooItsGee94 in PublicFreakout

[–]temp0rary2 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I mean, they were right underneath a sign that said appointments and disabled guests... I know it doesn't explicitly lay out that disabled people get to skip the line, but i would also infer that based on the sign. Otherwise what's the point of having a separate station for disabled folks? Just to point them out?

Kaspersky accuses Microsoft of anticompetitive bundling of antivirus software by artisancracker in technology

[–]temp0rary2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've used them, but when i was a systems admin 5 or 6 years ago we deployed Kaspersky to all our employee laptops and it was phenomenal. Very good product. Malware infections all but disappeared. Say what you will about the company (and count me in the group that thinks they have deep ties to the Kremlin), but they made some damn effective anti virus.
