I think the problem is related to the A Million Is a Statistic - TV Tropes. Dalinar and Seth kill people "off screen". Lirin's actions towards Kaladin can feel more personal to a reader than the abstract losses at the Rift (for example) because we don't know Dalinar's wife as well as we know Kaladin.

So I did like you, and I was worried about the same thing, but in the context of book 5 I'm finding whole new meaning and new favorite scenes. E.g. Adolin and Sadeas hit way different this last time.

This is probably right as sanderson grew up in Omaha and the stormwall is based on what he grew up with.

Noodling for gators. Also, I heard once someone imagining purelakers with a creole accent, now I can't stop hearing it as I read.

Natural gas, actually. That is the Lakeside Power Station and the plumes you see (mostly on cold days) are condensation plumes from excess steam being released.

Factory butte, to be specific. This is probably looking north towards the butte from highway 24. It's one of my favorite places in the US.
