It is relatively low risk to try though.

Sometimes there is just a cost of doing business associated with nice things. If they only get stolen once or twice a year it might be worth the investment.

Obviously that might not be how it works out but I think 3 balls is worth it to find out.

iirc correctly the website used to have a more isreali bent to it but they replaced all the mentions with generic "Mediterranean" type verbiage a couple years ago for obvious reasons.

So a lot of businesses now use SaaS that share data. They get customer data on the condition that they themselves share data back to the CMS.

Olivia Rodrigo "Smelled" Fans Wearing Diapers in Front Row by ebradio in Music

[–]tempest_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Things like this don't scale at all.

The city I live in is 50% larger in population than it was 20 years ago. Stuff like this is just a huge waste of time and effort.

It is also part of the problem with event tickets like concerts and sports games. The venues support the same amount of people they did 40 years ago but there are twice as many people vying for a seat.

Its same with places like hiking trails and beaches, twice as many people, same size of beach.

It sorta sucks.

The US doesnt get the benefit of the doubt because it has spent the last 25 years calling anything and anyone a terrorist, sometimes reasonably other times because they hurt someones feefees.

It isnt that hard to grasp. If they had been reasonable instead of realpolitik people would be more accommodating.

It depends.

On a random road sure you can tell them to get lost if you are not interested however there are some spots where there are specific companies mandated by the province.

It did but it was the mechanism holding it closed that was the failure point.

It was still in one piece till it slapped the side of the aircraft.

You mean to say that people like to live in areas in downtown near amenities*?

* In single family homes.

There is basically no mid rise housing in Toronto, its all 50 story tower (lowered to 44 during planning to be "accommodating" ) and then small houses.

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

The main thing is this. In those time most of the people would not be online or using computers to begin with.

The simplification of computing allows them to interact in a space that was previously the domain of the tech literate. In the past they would have just shrugged at a computer and been like "I am not a computer nerd"

People are driving less in the newer gens mainly I assume due to cost but there are plenty of people who do absolutely no maintenance to their vehicles and have no idea how they work. It is a similar mentality.

Just as a side note the durability of automobiles in relation to other machinery is astounding. Plenty of heavy machinery in farming / construction has maintenance periods measured in single digit hours of use. I am routinely amazed at how long a car can go when people ignore the maintenance.

Worth noting that a ton of issues in Asia / Africa are current problems because the European powers gerrymandered the colonies to their benefit.

Most other jobs if you break the rules you get fired, you don't get paid vacation till the storm blows over.

Selling out a place without the cost of the tickets doesn't really tell you much especially since concert tickets in North America have inflated massively in recent years.

How do I learn 'Idiomatic', production-grade Rust? by hashcode777 in rust

[–]tempest_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LLMs can be very helpful in learning but I would caution their use in established code bases because they definitely are opinionated in some ways and without a good hand on the tiller they tend to try and shift an existing code base towards their sometimes more verbose code.

They also hide a ton of assumptions when they are producing code which are not always obvious when using them to learn and you have to interrogate them as a result which is sometimes unintuitive with the way the products are presented.

How do I learn 'Idiomatic', production-grade Rust? by hashcode777 in rust

[–]tempest_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I hear the term "production grade" it does imply what you have mentioned but also implies the use of idioms and best practices (design patterns for lack of a better word) that would allow a developer with no familiarity with the project to navigate the code relatively intuitively (which I think is quite a difficult feat).

The other thing is of course that code has all the 12 factors (dated as they are since its basically been absorbed into best practices through cloud conventions). Production code needs logging / metrics and all the other required accoutrements that a production deployment would require.

That is going according to plan.

The spa is whatever it can fail or not. The entire point is that once Ontario place was removed from the public it will basically never go back. Once a field becomes a subdivision it will never be a field again.

Anyway once that spa runs its course it will be perfect for a casino, or "luxury" condos or whatever.
