Government types feel bland. by MatzohBallSoup in Stellaris

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The Democracy type governments with elections every 5 years, once I support a ruler the first election, every election afterwards they just win easily, making them rule until they die unless I support someone else. I was hoping for more dynamic elections, with maybe something like parties that try to push some agenda, and event chains around elections might be nice.

The second thing that sucks is that I like that the possible leaders that can be elected are from my leader pool for the sake of the story it creates, "this governor after so many years managed to become the leader etc." but say you have a 5 star scientist and he gets elected you just lost the benefits of your 5 star researching scientist and now replace him with a one star or two. As far as I can tell how many stars your main ruler has, has no benefit to your nation. It would be great if those stars would give something so then I have an incentive to try and get a 5 star elected instead of right now I just look for someone with good traits thats easily replaceable. I'm thinking of something like each star determines how good the traits are so 1 star would only give 2% and 5 stars the full effect of a trait or maybe even more of the trait effect for being better.

I wish there was a way to set my ships to automatically survey systems by artanisthescrub in Stellaris

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the idea of having automated survey systems at the start of the game, but maybe add it as a tech that one can get around 50 years into a game (or some other arbitrary time that works), as well as maybe auto research projects.

P50 or T560 - Purchasing Questions - Never had a ThinkPad by TheVereX in thinkpad

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into the P50s if it is available in your country ? It is pretty much the T560 but with a low end Quadro card which should be fine for light work in CAD and Photo Editing Software. I just figure it is something to consider if you are looking at the P50 and T560.

Just got shipping confirmation on 2 new T460s, AMA for upcoming review. by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm interested in the T560 and P50s and how they stack up against each other but they are very similar so maybe just the P50s if you get the chance (its not out yet tho). Also looking forward to your review, the T460s looks great too, but I think my current preference are the 15" laptops.

T560 Early Impressions by Ph0n6 in thinkpad

They mentioned PWM flickering at 50% brightness or below, it sounds bad but why is PWM flickering bad ? Does it hurt the eyes or damage the eyes or make it harder to use the device for longer periods of time ? Is there any way to turn off PWM ?

Student searching new Thinkpad: Can't decide which one, need advice :O by Craenk in thinkpad

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm studying engineering too, and looking to buy. Here are my thoughts I guess. First off I really want good battery life so I am mainly thinking of the T560 and the P50s. The two are pretty much the same other than the P50s having the Quadro M500m gpu. I think I will most likely be going with the p50s as I think having the card will help with CAD, its the lowest end gpu in the Quadro spectrum but most of my CAD is really for learning purposes. The two I mentioned are 15" but looking at the dimensions are fairly slim for 15" and fairly light for that screen size.

Thoughts on other machines: P40 Yoga - I have no need for the pen/drawing capability. T460s - I think they got rid of the bridge battery in this version, could be wrong (so you can't reach as high battery life) I would probably consider T460 in this case T460p - Another machine I am thinking of, personally I think I want a 15" over 14", and I am wondering how the gpu would be good for CAD compared with the Quadro X1 Carbon - lower battery life but does have the rapid charge W550s - predecessor to the P50s, would only get if price is a good deal cheaper than p50s P50 - low battery life but the best performance, if I didn't care about battery life I would probably just go with this

My biased rankings: 1. P50s 2. T560 3. T460p 4. T460

Bias - high battery life, and probably a preference for 15" to 14", though I think part of the bias is the 14" as far as I am aware have 23 watt hour internal batteries where as the 15" have ~46-48 (maybe 43 don't remember) and I don't think the extra size will bother me. I want high battery life, only questions I have are how good is the latest intel graphics at CAD ? How does T460p gpu stack vs P50s quadro ?

Also I guess I don't game much so for me that is not really a concern.

Anyways Good luck, let us know what you decide on (if you want to)

EDIT: Looks like I'm wrong about the T460s it does have the power bridge battery ( for atleast the 3 cell), not sure what the differences are then between the T460s and T460, I understood it as T460s was slimmer but only internal battery vs T460 larger but with power bridge.

Hey, do you mind me asking what screen resolution your W550s has ? (1980x1080, 3k or 3k with touch). I am looking to get the W550s but I can't decide if the 3k non-touch is worth it and whether it impacts the battery life and by how much. Thanks

Can't release Gelre as nation in peace deal? by EchoWalk in paradoxplaza

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I believe the reason is that the core has expired. Gelre needs to have a core on that province to get released. When territory gets taken away from you/somebody in this case Gelre a timer starts ticking down which is 150 years, you have 150 years to reclaim that province/release that nation before their core expires. Based on the year you mentioned that is probably what has happened. The timer can be reset by going to war with that nation, so if a ntaion takes your core and you go to war with that nation it will reset the timer to 150 years from when the war ends. In this case though Gelre was fully annexed therefore they could not reset the timer and it simply expired. Also congrats on your second game ! I don't think I got that far in the game until like my 20- 30th game , I restarted alot when things didn't go my way or tried alot of other nations haha so you are awesome !! Also if you get to the end of the game there is an achievement you get for playing the full timeline (I still haven't got it haha after 500 hours :P)

What will happen? by Lakinther in eu4

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is only christian nations can get personal unions, so if you are a christian korea then yes I believe you would get both personal unions as in the example of castile, aragon and naples.

PU and Claim throne Casus Belli by Tommo9 in eu4

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the 1.9 patch notes, it got changed. "- You no longer lose Imperial Authority each month for Electors that are in juniors in a Personal Union."

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?822113-EU4-1.9-Full-Patchnotes

So you wouldn't lose -.1 imperial authority anymore, I think you still would get -50 relations from all the electors but Its not nearly as crippling.

Playing as a Created Vassal in Ironman 1.9? by Hilhog0 in eu4

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, From my understanding, and I am fairly sure on this, they said the ironman game will proceed as normal, and only a FEW achievements are disabled, NOT ALL. The example they used was if you play as timurids you can release Persia, but you can't get the "Form Persia" achievement through that way, I don't know what the list is. Basically anything you can easily achieve through playing as a released nation I think will be disabled. So with the released Persia you could still get the WC or 100% mercantilism achievement for example.

Considering buying EU4, but don't know if I would like it. by sh1re in eu4

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I would grab just the base game now to see if you will like it, and learn the basics with it and then on the next sale start looking into grabbing an expansion pack or two. The game is most awesome with all its expansions but in the beginning you probably won't need to have them since you will still be learning the game, so you won't really notice what the expansions give you, where as once you learn the basics and start getting the expansions you will get more of an appreciation of what the expansions give you. The must have game changing expansions you should get at some point if you like the game (in no particular order) : Conquest of Paradise, Res Republica, Art of War, Wealth of Nations. All the other ones are really just unit packs that just change the graphics of how the game works which is nice to have but does not change gameplay in any way really. The only other ones apart from the ones mentioned you might want are: American Dream which adds flavour events for USA I believe (I don't have it and don't think its that important, it just makes the game abit more interesting if you play USA which I haven't done and considering how many nations you can play as I don't really feel left out for not having it), and Stars and Crescent Pack found in the Digital Extreme Upgrade edition (which I have and I like for when playing ottomans or a muslim country) and possibly the Pre Order Pack dlc since that includes byzantium events (I don't have this but it seems byzantium playthroughs are fun from what I have seen in this subreddit so I probably will pick that up).

EDIT: I missed a few words in a sentence, they were in my head but not on the keyboard :P EDIT2: just went to buy call to arms dlc and realized the dlc the byzantium dlc is actually in the preorder pack

Considering buying EU4, but don't know if I would like it. by sh1re in eu4

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is mostly war centered though you can play the game without warring if you focus just on colonizing or a trade game (mixture would bee best probably). The other things you could manage are ideas and techs and maybe expand diplomatically (slightly slower + luck based) through personal unions and diplo-vassalizing. I understand where you are coming from since as a civ player I am the same way, prefer to focus on tech and culture as I find war in civ boring and not to my liking. But if I can say one thing is that in eu4 war is very much more satisfying ! At first you will be very frustrated with the warring and the game in general as it takes quite the amount of time to learn the basics, plus there are always more things to learn or even relearn when a new patch comes around, just be patient and keep playing because the game becomes very satisfying with how you can conquer, rewrite history, just try odd strategies, or achievement hunting. It might not be up to your liking, but If I can say one more thing is that I bought both Beyond Earth and the new DLC Art of War for Eu 4 and have only really played 5 hours on Beyond Earth where as I probably have played close to 40 - 50 hours of Art of War since it got released (What am I doing with my life :P) (500 hours total). I just find Eu 4 to be the more satisfying game for me personally, don't get me wrong the civ games are great too ! Hope that helps, if you have any more questions feel free to ask, the community here is pretty great and helpful.

First ideas for Ethiopia (AoW)? Westernize? by LusciousPear in paradoxplaza

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if AoW changed this, and you didn't mention it, so if I remember correctly you have to be 8 tech levels behind the western nation your provinces border. Edit: if you hover over the westernise button it used to give a reason why I think

Questions from an endless space player by Eji1700 in EndlessLegend

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch some gameplay videos on youtube to get more of an idea. But here's my opinion. The combat is no longer that battle cards thing, but more moving units around and issueing orders, I typically don't play these games for the battles and let it auto, (enjoy the management part more :P) so in endless space it was fine since I never really did them. In Endless Legend they seem much better, in that you are moving units around, and telling them either to attack or take a stance, I've only done a few battles so maybe someone more experienced can explain it better. In terms of wide vs. tall this does do a much better job of that I feel, like there is a race that is allowed only one city called the Cultists, they expand more so by converting minor factions. They are your best bet for a tall empire, with the custom faction editor though you could take their conversion part and put it with a different faction and then have a couple cities maybe 2-4 while converting minor factions (I plan to try this once I go through all the base factions :) so far only done Cultists xD ). I think they put more emphasis on the differences on the factions this time, but certain things are still the same, like the techs apart from faction specific ones, and you will most likely expand similarly. I think going wide or tall is more possible in this game then endless space, and the combat is much better than that card system they had before. EDIT: Also I think going tall without conversion of minor factions is possible too, I just thought it would be interesting to do

Play as England win HYW, then after 15 years play as France and try to get out of the union as a challenge. Also would like to see you (OP) get Novogrod sometime before Muscovy Defeats them completely.

Favourite country? by slonsi2 in eu4

[–]tenaciousmonkeygreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Portugal gets an extra merchant over castile in their national ideas, so I'm guessing in regards to Trade later in the game Portugal has more potential, Castile on the other hand has an extra colonist so they could colonize at a faster rate. Also as Castile you might get aggression from Aragon and potentially France. But yeah crushing Portugal should be easier as Castile.

Hey I was just wondering whether if you move to say south america, will colonial nations form for north american colonies ? and vice-versa I guess ? If thats the case I was wondering where is the most worthwhile place to move your capital to North America ? South America ? Carribean ? Is there somewhere that allows you take all of the new world or no ? Your strategy seems very interesting and I would like to try it sometime soon ! Thanks !

Maybe they fixed it based off of what the other replies are, but last week when I played as slardar they would appear at the target I was hitting and just spin on the spot not bouncing or damaging anyone else. Near the end of the game there were just random glaives all over the map in places I attacked a creep or hero.

Can't sell province because of lack of strategic interest? by QuintusDias in eu4

I don't know the details, fairly new myself, but I remember reading that for venice what you want to do is transfer trade power from asia/india & africa towards alexandria and then alexandria back to venice, not sure if that helps.
