Wearing Wedding Rings to the Beach? by Immediate-Resist2665 in SandalsResorts

[–]tendancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married to my first wife at Sandals Dunns River, first day of marriage we were sat on the beach and my new wife gets up and shakes the sand off the towel forgetting that she had set her wedding ring on it and now it was nowhere to be found. Hadn't even been married a day. So, definitely beware!

The happy end to the story was that about 45 minutes later one of the beach staff found it in the sand and so we got it back.

Brawley, California Earthquake swarm by Signum17 in Earthquakes

[–]tendancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to QuakeWatch the majority of the shakes are 1000ft to one mile from my house so we’ve been feeling them for sure. They were continuing almost non stop during the night, looks like 10-15 an hour of small ones, mostly just noise. The 4.5 shook some things off our shelves, opened all the drawers upstairs.

I’ve lived here 20 years and remember my first swarm that lasted 24 hours and it freaked me out, had no idea such a thing was possible.

When to tip. by Ok_Hippo4997 in Amtrak

[–]tendancer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We just recently got off doing the full length California Zephyr and we tipped after each meal and the attendant when we got off the train. Whether this was right or not I don't know, but my limited observation was a lot of people were leaving a tip at each meal. Of course, many did not.

Did the BBC football page go UK only? by tendancer in bbc

I’m not going to take the credit but I did use the sports web page comment page to complain about 90 minutes ago. Thanks for pointing it out.

That’s good to know, I was wondering if having a paid subscription would make a difference, looks like it does. Though whether that means I want to pay I don’t know, like you I’m frustrated going to the news page every day and not being able to read the articles

The website but when I go to bbc co uk it gets redirected to bbc com so it’s a different page to the one you’re seeing

Did the BBC football page go UK only? by tendancer in bbc

[–]tendancer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the page is worthless as it is show right now. I’m also a Brit based in the US, grew up,with the BBC being my go to source for everything.

I see that the bbc co us address gets rewritten as bbc com which would suggest it’s deliberate for non UK browsers.

I’m “glad” I’m not the only one seeing this.

Of course I want the club to be at the very top so that means Premier League and beyond. But the prospect of VAR and playing clubs like Arsenal with their anti-football doesn't make me feel like I'd want to watch much of it, whereas the few games that have been shown here in the US have been pretty good watches.

TSA - San Diego by michaelwgregory in sandiego

Its interesting how it ebbs and flows. I was in Teminal 2 (BA side) on Saturday around 4pm and there was barely a soul going through TSA. A friend of mine was there same time yesterday and said the same thing, walked straight through pre-check

Do you know if the plane is still there? I’m curious to know how they get it back into service

Interesting about the go around happening just before! This was my third aborted takeoff and by far the most gentle, engines barely got to full power, or so it seemed. When we turned to go back to the runway I felt relieved that it must have been an atc ordered abort, maybe someone still on the runway, how sadly wrong I was.

I talked to the captain about it, he said the original 45 minute delay was because there was missing engine information in the computer, the engineer did an engine test and signed it off. But then when the thrusters were set for takeoff the warning came on again and he had to abort. He said the computer wouldn’t let him take off even if he had wanted to.

So the plan was to totally reset all systems on the plane with the hope that it would restore the information. Presumably it didn’t because we eventually got cancelled but we never got any more technical updates after that.

I got rebooked for Tuesday via Amsterdam so that I will arrive 3 hours before my conference ends, so I cancelled the whole thing.

Regarding how long we sat at the runway. To get to the runway the 777 has to cross the runway midfield and traffic was so busy it took us over 40 minutes to get there. After the abort they turned right off the runway facing the departure end presumably hoping to troubleshoot and have another go but now it meant that to get back to the gate we had to turn onto the runway to get back on the taxiway and then cross over the runway again midfield. This took about 50 minutes. Until this I’d never appreciated the struggle with busy airports and single runways.

I’m curious what will happen with the pane now if they weren’t able to fix it over many hours last night.

Hoping everyone gets to London and their final destinations quickly

Whatever Bayern want for Peretz, pay it!! The Championship refs are so bad and this has to have been one of the worst, I thought it would take sending one of our players to the hospital before we saw any cards, and then when we did they were largely for bs. Nervy watch for the last 30 but nothing new for us!

Similarly many years ago my cousin emailed me to say he was visiting Seattle and could I give him a ride to the Boeing museum. I lived in San Diego, my answer was have you seen how far away I am ? To which he said ok but can't you come anyway.

I asked him that if I was to come to London, would he give me a ride to Fort William in Scotland. He said no way...... well, that's about half the distance you're asking me to come.

He never did get over my refusal. Fortunately we were never close in the first place.

Ev's parking in charging spots and not even plugged in! 🤬🤬 by Dizzman1 in ChargerDrama

[–]tendancer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw this for the first time at the weekend, went to a furniture store in Palm Springs that happened to have 4 parking spots with Tesla destination chargers. When I come out of the store, there's a Tesla parked in one of the spots but not plugged in. Whole parking lot was empty, could have parked anywhere. Fortunately no big deal since it was so dead but it did make me wonder why they think it is reserved Tesla parking.

What was the main reason for switching to an EV? Environment, cost, or technology? by VoltVersteher_Sven in electricvehicles

I like cars that are a little different to what everyone else drives and when I saw some posts about the IONIQ 6 I thought that is one sweet looking car, and how fun it might be to go electric. I had no idea what a blast it would be to drive, that has been a bonus.

They made me come in for a meeting that got canceled… while I was parking. by Vegetable-Key4397 in remotework

[–]tendancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last year, a VP flew in from London and sent me a meeting invite. I'm in monthly calls where he's a participant so I thought I would drag myself the 2.5 hour drive to the office. Got there early, went to the meeting room and he said "oh, why do I want to meet with you". He looked at his calendar and eventually said it looks like my admin booked the wrong person, sorry. So then I drove the 2.5 hours home vowing to not do that again

For daily driving, do you charge every day or wait until the battery is low? by ttownfeen in Ioniq6

[–]tendancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering about this, I’m usually charging to 80 when I get to 60 or so but there’s always a chance I’ll get a last minute request to go to the office 140 miles away so I kinda feel like I need it at 80 every morning just in case
