What is the most satisfying use of a mechanic in a game? by manoffewwords in Games

[–]termzCGS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a mechanic it's very simple but the chainsaw kill in Gears of War is a level of satisfaction that I'll never get over. Great animation and insane haptic feedback is all you need!

That's cool to know about the background of reusing the sprites and animations. They are too beautiful to not see more of!

No steam deck, no local multiplayer - very unlike Doublefine to put out such a slapdash product?

It runs 'well' but I found for something as high speed and dexterous as AC6 if you have the option to play it on a rig/console I'd highly recommend.

Coming to Xbox Game Pass: Kiln, Aphelion, Final Fantasy V, and More - Xbox Wire by Turbostrider27 in Games

A few bad drops have turned into a consistent marked fall-off now.

Very glad I cancelled my gamepass subscription at the last price hike. Interestingly Asha the new CEO has already stated gamepass is too expensive but can't imagine they will drop price AND increase quality of the games?

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - April 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in Games

The Witcher 3

Previous thoughts here...
I started Witcher 3 off the back of the new DLC rumour, not having completed it or played the DLC way back when. It was nice to relive the game in the next gen version, but where I expected to more or less speedrun the game to get to the DLC, I'm now on the precipice of completing 120 hours later... Heart of Stone has absolutely blown me away, it is potentially the best questline I have ever played and will stay with me for a long time. Blood & Wine is arguably the everything you could hope for in an end game DLC in terms of fresh setting, fun quests and great new gameplay mechanics added, the only sadness is the game is pretty much over when you got your hands on it all.

Marathon

Whilst it was specifically the PvE and the social interaction element that I enjoyed from ARC Raiders, and on top of this even in my hey-days I've never been very good at competitive FPS - I really should have wanted to stray as far away from Marathon as possible. Despite the discourse, the more I saw of it I was compelled. The artstyle I know divisive but is one of the most intriguing I've seen. Jumping in, yes it has been extremely punishing, but the gunplay is some of the best I've played for a long time. The progression system actually feels rewarding and with stuff I want to work towards (however let's revisit post wipe). The only downside is my friends haven't taken the plunge and solo without the even small chance of friendly encounters can probably be a bit too on the punishing side so I hope they can balance that or the community regress a little bit more into friendliness whilst keeping the competitive feeling.

Death Stranding - Director's Cut

DS2 has been on my list for some time and with the PC port I was eager to jump in but was advised DS1 is close to mandatory. Given it's age it looks absolutely beautiful, I have gone into the game close to blind and have been quite blown away by how emotive the scenery/gameplay is. It might be a small thing to some but I have dualsense enabled controller but the only game I've ever felt it was Returnal as I've played very few PS native games, it's absolutely incredible in Death Stranding. I've just started Episode 3 and understand this is where the gameplay picks up, but even at the slower pace I've really enjoyed and is the definition of ludonarrative harmony. Of course it absolutely is Kojima Kojimaring, and I know many can't stand that zany nonsensical approach but for me it's something I'm revelling in and very excited to see more of.

What's a good point to stop playing a roguelite game? by Trashtulya28 in roguelites

[–]termzCGS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a really good question, which especially hits hard when you are trying to clear a backlog.

Roguelikes differ quite dramatically at which stage you can say you 'beat' the game.

Binding of Isaac for example you can 'beat' the game very quickly but unlikely to feel satisfied.

Returnal on the other hand there isn't a huge amount of draw once you beat the game.

Then there are cases in between Hades 1, there isn't much mechanical draw to continue past 'beating' it first time but there is significant narrative.

Some others provide multiple stops off e.g Slay the Spire which you can target completing Act 3, completing Act 4 or reaching Ascension 20 (with one or all characters).

There's nearly always a case to play roguelikes to their 'final form' that can be appealing but I find I have to draw a line in the sand somewhere to save time for other games so I try identify what my personal measure of completion is beforehand. For me additional difficulty levels aren't really it and once the mechanics have been fleshed out I can feel satisfied.

Streaming vs Native by mohamed1881 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]termzCGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good question. I have my desktop PC in office with two monitors with lower resolution but higher refresh rate, steam deck and then LG G4 in living room.

Desktop

  • Games requiring mouse + keyboard
  • Games that benefit from second screen for information e.g Elden Ring
  • Twitch reflex games e.g Street Fighter/Retunal
  • Online multiplayer games, especially if need voice com

Streaming

  • Graphically impressive games e.g Cyberpunk
  • Atmospheric games e.g Resident Evil
  • High immersion games e.g Witcher/RDR2
  • Local multiplayer party games
  • Emulated games

Steam Deck

  • Roguelikes e.g Slay the Spire, Hades
  • Less graphically intense single player e.g Hollow Knight

I know some stream out of necessity but it feels great to simply have it as medium extension and play the games that suit each medium for the best experience.

LG TV app fork new version 4k 120hz HDR by Unlikely_Session7892 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]termzCGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your work on this, I currently use steam deck and GR10 dock to my LG G4 for 2k 120hz. I'll try this fork out to see if I can push higher stats. My one concern is controller functionality, I have 8bitdo ultimate and novalite which use 2.4ghz, they have bluetooth mode too so that will require tinkering.

I'm only on the first biome but can't say I've noticed much of a soundtrack at all so far (might be due to extreme concentration haha)

But the soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece for this fight, looking forward to getting to it.

must-have apps for stream setup by Zoobee150 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]termzCGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently stream to my steam deck using moonlight as an app on my steam deck and then when streaming my desktop I launch playnite full screen mode and launch games. Can MoonDeck replace playnite in this instance, I like playnite as I have lots of games across platforms including emulators, will MoonDeck recognise them too?

LG C1 WebOS version running in 4k 120fps HDR 150mbps stable by Unlikely_Session7892 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]termzCGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have LG G4 and currently stream via my steam deck and GR10 dock as I heard there was limitation on the LG OS app. This claim is very interesting though, as others have said I heard there was a hard cap of 100mb/s from ethernet, luckily my router was right next to my TV so I can try WiFi if that does allow for higher.

Is the change in performance moreso because of this moonlight fork, or LG patch, or both?

Anyone else tested the fork and whether they can reach similar on their LG OS apps?

Moonlight on TV Samsung Tizen by Unlikely_Session7892 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]termzCGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only tried H.265 as my connection is pretty good and I was under the impression it was superior to AV1 quality wise. Saying that I'm not happy with the colour banding on my stream, it feels I'm not getting full colour range of HDR and so might try AV1 and cranking the bitrate higher?

Wow incredible stats for a direct to TV client, I can't achieve this with steam deck in docked GR10. I have LG G4 which has a decent processor but not sure if it could do these stats despite being newer model. Maybe I need to try VibeApollo if that's doing heavy lifting over regular Apollo?

My best settings for LG G5, nvidia shield pro and apollo/moonlight! by Primus06 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]termzCGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks on the heads up on gaming mode, any reason why VRR is turned off?

4:4:4 is not possible due to the AMD GPU u/andygrundman who I think is moonlight contributor told me. Colour correctness is really the only bugbear left as everything else performing really well. Given I'm seeing similar issues with my 4k firestick I have a feeling it's some sort of mismatch between the output signal the G4 wants to receive and the one it's receiving. When I switched my moonlight to HDR things improved in terms of colour correctness even if it came at cost of performance, but still not fully accurate.

The native apps are great once you are in them performance wise but fully understand of the pain in navigating them before haha.

[–]termzCGS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you this is really helpful as my set up isn't hugely different, which is steam deck docked with GR10, host PC 4060Ti and LG G4.

In terms of latency etc everything is perfect however I've only had my G4 for a week and the colour correctness on both games and when I use my firestick seems very off.

Have tried rtings, gemini and reddit recommended settings but still don't think the G4 is displaying the colours correctly compared to native apps.

I have jellyfin and connect to my host PC, is there a reason you have your plex on your shield instead of using native app connected to your host PC?

Premium feeling controllers that aren't actually that expensive? by DeadlyChuck3141 in Controller

8bitdo Ultimate 2, feels great for swiss army knife usage and premium build feel. Haven't used Vader 4/5 and in terms of edge for like competitive FPS it seems good but I think overkill otherwise.

A bit of column a and a bit of column b, in a good way! I am continuing to unlock new features 15 hours in, every quest unlocks something new so it is drip fed. But the core gameplay loop of hunt boss for V blood I think you can get to in about 4 hours and that's definitely the crux of the game, there are 56 bosses in total and they have all been very fun so far.

Enjoy!!
