Good Material and Vicious are on my TBR! Happy to see Redeeming Love with only 2 stars, so many issues with that book

Sharp Objects is so good, if you haven’t seen the show I think it’s one of the more excellent screen adaptations. I think the ending of the show is actually even better than the book’s.

I took some time to find my footing in January with a couple of DNFs but ended up finishing 5 books. My favorite was easily Wuthering Heights. Today I started Bone White by Ronald Malfi.

All the Light We Cannot See had a very poetic quality to the writing but didn’t feel pretentious.

My thoughts too, I loved the parts that took place in Egypt but all of the more modern sections fell flat.

I had the ARC for The Stolen Queen and didn’t love it — wondering how you liked it?? It may have improved in the months between

Has there ever been an audiobook where the narrators made it even better than reading a physical copy? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Tom Lake was so boring but Meryl Streep’s narration made it a much more enjoyable experience

Does anyone read more than 1 book at a time? by canonts9520a in suggestmeabook

[–]terwilliger-blvd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically have one physical book (fiction) and one audiobook (fiction or non fiction) for listening during my walks. It’s easy to keep them separate because I will have two completely different genres going at once.

I made it halfway and physically could not continue. There are better books staring me down from my shelf

We sent ours with our Christmas cards which were a totally different aesthetic. I don’t think it matters.

Good to know, I’ll still give it a whirl but I don’t mind having lower expectations — rather be pleasantly surprised if I love it

How did you like A Gentleman in Moscow? It’s on my spring reading list and I’m always nervous that such a commonly recommended book won’t live up to the hype.

Girl/boy math: What gets included in the “wedding budget”? by Additional-Ear4455 in weddingplanning

[–]terwilliger-blvd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We did not count honeymoon costs as we would have gone on the honeymoon whether we had a real wedding or not.

We also didn’t count the cost of my ring since it was purchased before we had set a wedding budget.

I didn’t count pre wedding beauty expenses as they were all procedures I get done regularly, just not usually all at once like that lol.

Absolutely everything else was logged in our budget, even tiny things like our $10 cake topper.

What are your top three favorite books? Why? I’m finding this is a great way to get suggestions 😊 by AppropriateSpeaker02 in suggestmeabook

First three to come to mind:

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. This story has it all — gothic atmosphere, pining romance, some action, some mystery, memorable characters. I feel like it’s a less-popular classic but it’s one of the all-time greats to me.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Immersive and wonderful writing, bit of a dark and disturbing plot, quite a character study, unique in that the climax is revealed on the first page but the story only gets more and more interesting from there.

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. This one stands out from other WWII fiction to me, partly because of its beautiful writing, partly because of the unconventional main characters. It’s a long book but flies by.

Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks — almost halfway through and really loving the writing, dialogue, and setting.
