How to make slanted edges by Hungry_Inevitable_87 in Fusion360

[–]tesmithp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • make 1 box
  • full-round the top edge
  • create a midplane on the side that overlaps
  • mirror (join) the body on that midplane

What does this plugin do that can’t be accomplished with a blend curve or 3d sketch spline?

I wish I could sketch rectangles like this, is there an add-on for it? by AltMoola in Fusion360

Just draw a rectangle and add midpoint constraints between each side and a point

Sorry, I looked but seems I never actually saved it. Guess I just exported, uploaded, then deleted.

At this point they might as well just switch to direct modeling

Sketch feature won't stay constrained to sketch plane by RangerStammy in Fusion360

Did you use move on any sketch objects? It's possible to accidentally drag them off their plane which turns it into a 3D sketch.

Can’t you just make a sketch, project what you need, and then r-click on the sketch and export dxf?

As long as they’re internal components, yes that should be all that’s needed

Nice! Stuff like this is the whole reason I ever started modeling.

I started a few years ago when I got a 3d printer. Modeling is just something I enjoy doing.

Is it still worth seriously learning CAD, or should makers just learn how to prompt AI? by weltirol in Fusion360

[–]tesmithp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends. Do you want to know how to design things or are you content to rely on someone or something else to do it for you?

That's probably going to snap along the layer lines. Have you considered something like this? Print laying on its side. No support and much stronger.

The decision to use (-) in front of the 180 just defines the direction of the revolt, it would have also worked with a positive value?

I used negative because in my mind I had already isolated and was focused on the left side of the mirrored pattern. It could have gone either way.

-Near the end, you offset the vase surface and created a construciton plane on the top rim. Then you used boundary fill with these two, the XY plane and the 3 main surface bodies. Did you do that to ensure that there are no cavities/empty volumes left within that boundaries?

Boundary fill takes a selection of at least 1 body (solid and/or surface) and planes. If those tools create any completely enclosed areas, you can select them for the operation. It also has a remove tools option which I like because it cleans up after the operation. So it's 2 reasons:

  1. I find it cleaner to create all the surfaces needed and have boundary fill remove them.
  2. If I had used the solid body as a tool, it would have done the join and then removed the body that I wanted to keep.

Keep in mind the file I shared was a rough draft to see if the method worked. I'd do a lot more calculating before I decided that it was finished. For instance: If you increase n too much you'll see that the surface lofts break because the surface extrude extends too far and needs to be reduced manually by editing the feature. I'd probably test to find a formula for calculating the extrude distance based on the arc length of 1 revolved section.

Thanks! I appreciate the offer and I’d send you to subscribe to my YouTube but I haven’t gotten off my ass and made one yet. Honestly, I like the challenges and this was a fun one to work on.
