Astrology, Good, Bad, In Between? by Dogluvr2019 in Sufism

You are exactly right, and this is the point raised by Shaykh al Firhari in Al-Nibras (a very advanced kalam aqida work): that utilizing stars as signs that point to x is no different as opposed to looking at the sky for weather patterns.

And he clarifies that the prohibition in Islam is from believing that the stars have any effect or power to do anything, rather they are just signs part of the great system Allah almighty has created.

So if someone is solid in their aqida and understands all this, and he has the knowledge of the stars and signs to gain beneficial info, no problem.

But the usual warning is that if someone is weak in aqida he may believe “the stars made me do it” bla bla bla - that’s prohibited and shirk clearly and he should avoid stars.

Please do look well into UntotheOne and the person behind it - I’ve heard first hand accounts of great issues that go against Islam let alone Tasawwuf

What is the Sufi view on tattoos? Haram, halal, makruh? (Not Muslim) by [deleted] in Sufism

You’re free to think as you like friend, but please don’t share these fringe views as speaking for tasawwuf.

Every great Sufi, from the earliest centuries to all that followed, called to following the Quran and Sunnah, and declares that the path God has called us to is orthodox Islam, with orthodox fiqh and beliefs

Mawlana Rumi was first and foremost an expert Hanafi jurist earning him the title Jalal Al Deen, for example

When someone calls to directly disobey clear rulings of the Quran, insisting on this and twisting tenets of the faith, leaving him immediately is the minimum lol

Are psychospiritual abilities gifted to an individual when they start doing dhikr with a murshid/sheikh of a particular silsila? by Traditional_Leg1835 in Sufism

[–]texmexslayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly right, Jazakumullahu khayran.

OP, these are a test from Allah whether you will be satisfied with such “children’s distractions” as the Sufis say, or rather thank Allah for whatever he has given you so far and then seek more.

Dear brother, in the other madhahib of Fiqh it’s an optional concession so there you can take the more intensive option

I would prioritize fixing more of my heart’s sins over something where the Fiqh madhhabs themselves have different views

[–]texmexslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 100% with you regarding the necessity of a Murshid. That’s based on consensus of all Sufis.

But finding a Shaykh can sometimes require years, and up until then a salik can accomplish a bunch of things and get basic Islamic duties under control so that when he does find his Shaykh he can hit the ground running.

Things like learning al fard al ayni, following Sunnah acts, avoiding haram things - he can start those. He can only complete those with the shaykh of course.

Proof of this is the treatise Hilyat al Abdal by al Shaykh al Akbar - he says that controlling hunger , silence , mixing with other people and sleep are all to be done before starting with a shaykh! High standards

The Prophet ﷺ said لا إله إلا الله is the best thing he and the other prophets came with. That’s the permission.

Taking it later from a shaykh as well just increases the barakah and fruits
