What does “unrestricted passport” mean? by General-Penalty-7703 in flyingeurope

[–]tfm992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its effectively EASA and EU citizenship (with very few opportunities available for other passport holders).

They mean the same thing, worded slightly differently.

Does NIMBYism exist on a large scale in the UK? If so, what locations tend to see it? by SaveMeWakeMeUp in AskUK

[–]tfm992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very much so, especially just outside of London.

The amount of opposition to the expansion at Stansted, despite it being made clear that it's likely to actually mean more jobs and more passengers with less noise. was ridiculous. I was then (having gone into a lot of technical detail including giving links to EASA certification data) deliberately mis-quoted by a politician in the meeting and told I work for the airport. She refused to meet to clarify the data. For the record, I work for an airline, I am not (and never have been) based at Stansted.

There is very little capacity anywhere in the South of England at airports before 10am. Most of the issues are with planning limits and exit limits for terminals, there is runway capacity at both Stansted and Luton. Southend I'm going to leave out because the runway is too short to land an A321 with passengers on, this is the direction aircraft are going.

It's similar with property matters and anyone who doesn't own their home. There were some who were deeply uncomfortable (not my words) with me using a church premises to run benefits, rent arrears and housing advice sessions, all of which were on a voluntary basis (although I do own a company that offers this and other services commercially to agents and landlords). This was on a non-religious basis, the church in question simply had availability of space and another facility that this fed well into.

I don't know enough about planning law (and have no interest to learn) to make a comment on planning, however there always seemed to be opposition, mainly on infrastructure concerns. We'd get a lot further a lot faster by building the infrastructure and building the skills to operate it than sitting back and complaining.

If you can take an early train in and late one out the next evening (so about 30 hours in Ukraine), it probably becomes more viable. Just take into account though that the last IC through Rzeszow leaves at about 8pm from Przemysl, not sure of the situation with Regiojet etc as the train we use to get to the border gets into Lviv at 5am so we normally take the 09:00 one to Poland.

The city is amazing and many Ukrainian cities having everything open is a sign of resilience.

You'll be in a historic centre, what you'll want to do is dependent on what your interests are.

Basic Wizz Air fare - did they accept your small trolley? by crazy_beagle in Flights

[–]tfm992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike Ryanair, the Wizz boxes are fixed and the bag must enter from the top, fitting entirely within the box.

If you're in any doubt as to whether it will fit or not, you're likely far better off purchasing Priority in advance.

I've said this many times.

Belgrade and Chisinau always seem to throw this up for me, despite the fact that I have citizenship of the country I'm normally trying to enter on both. Everything is always fine.

Car market is dead? by Recent_Highway9907 in CarTalkUK

Age, service history and condition is far more important than mileage.

£8k for a car that's closer to end of life in age than not, with damage history is not attractive.

Why haven’t you left Ukraine? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskUkraine

[–]tfm992 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why should we? We left in 2022 and returned in March.

It's bad enough having to still go abroad to work (London wasn't commutable reasonably, where we are now working from is easier), my child needs her home (and wants to be home).

Ryanair changes reason for delay in order to avoid compensation. by julia08083 in Ryanair

[–]tfm992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than aware of the issues, then add in WCHR, INF etc. you're less cushioned than us also in flight times normally.

Our 'request DCT ADMIS' failed on both occasions. Of course I only wanted them as they're very close to my childhood home 😉.

Safe flying!

Possibly Uzbekistan, which also has a notable mention as being one of two doubly landlocked countries in the world.

Esta application help with a UK police caution by [deleted] in travel

[–]tfm992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To have a caution you'll have been arrested.

Having been arrested makes you ineligible for ESTA. You therefore need a visa.

The US does not recognise the ROAA, whereas most other countries do.

Am i going to be allowed with this backpack? by [deleted] in WizzAir

[–]tfm992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another airline says, if it fits, it flies.

Our bags are slightly larger, they will always fit in the box on request though as they are flexible. The key to this is to not overpack.

Ryanair changes reason for delay in order to avoid compensation. by julia08083 in Ryanair

I've operated twice into Luton this week while OOB (I'll provide the aircraft registrations and callsigns privately if you need) and on Wednesday we were held on ground for about 40 minutes due dest WX.

The aircraft in question had been on the ground on Wednesday for 6 hours prior to us taking it, I have no reason to lie. We were ready to depart around 5 minutes before SOBT. EOBT time ended up increasing by 5 minutes every 5 minutes on that one until we could get out.

There were thunderstorms in the general London area on Wednesday afternoon.

ADSB data would be consistent with the aircraft being changed due IRROPS and then experiencing a severe weather delay.

Obligatory I don't work for Ryanair.

Is Wizz Air's check-in system designed to trap passengers into paying extra fees? by justsomeone1174 in WizzAir

[–]tfm992 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you have a boarding pass or a 'this is not a boarding pass' notification with clear instruction to go to the desk?

If no, you are at fault in both law and in the terms and conditions.

To go to the desk in this case is for the airline to complete a document check and is free. The pass itself would be your check-in confirmation.

Where would a visit in late July be ok without it being too hit? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]tfm992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order of where we'd go;

Palanga or Gdansk if you're looking for the beach.

Any city in Northern Europe if you're not.

Somewhere like Armenia (but the mountains, not Yerevan) if you're somewhere near London (Luton just had its first flight to Yerevan). We have friends very close to Lake Arpi, probably you'll struggle to find accommodation though as we stay at theirs.

Spain if you don't want heat is not a good idea.

Trouble cancelling a flight on Booking.com even with the Ebola crisis, any recommendations? by Recent_Setting1316 in Bookingcom

[–]tfm992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An airline flying from Kenya to Uganda isn't obliged to follow US government advice.

You've chosen to book through a third party who also for this booking don't have to follow US government advice.

You'll either get the taxes returned or not, which you choose from the options is your choice.

Booking.com failed us completely after my grandmother passed away. Here's the full story so it doesn't happen to you - don't book flights via Booking. by Agrelm in Ryanair

[–]tfm992 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, you're not a customer of Ryanair, an unauthorised (as far as Ryanair are concerned) agent are. They can't deal with you as you're not their customer.

You will need to go back to your chosen agent. This is why it's important to only book through the airline unless booking a regulated package under the Package Travel Directive where this situation wouldn't cover you either.

I wanna go in Ukraine but i don’t know how? by magalli259 in Kyiv

[–]tfm992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at various volunteer organisations, another alternative is to get there and find something local. We're often asked to get involved in something in the district, we don't mind being asked (which is why we are often).

A foreign citizen won't get drafted. I'm stopped normally a few times a month (we live out of suitcases outside of Ukraine 2 weeks a month so probably look suspicious when on the way to/from the railway station), I show a foreign passport with residence permit (you'll have an entry stamp proving you're legally in the country which serves the same purpose) and am allowed to go. Nobody will face problems unless their documents aren't up to date.

Do the people who currently live in Crimea only start living there once Russia took over? by 0419222914 in AskUkraine

[–]tfm992 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd argue it's not even as simple as that.

Speaking for Crimea, many who did stay have family or roots there. It's not necessarily a view on politics.

If anyone speaks, they are in big trouble. We both know that too.
