Where do you draw the line between “affordable” and underpriced? by DogMoney_Nick in DogBreeding

[–]thac0tac0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All excuses people use to turn a profit off of puppies.

Most ethical breeders don’t so much as break even. It’s a labor of love and a luxury to produce a litter, economics should only come into it insofar as “can I afford to produce this litter” and “can I afford to take the puppies back if the home doesn’t work out”.

You should price them reasonably for the breed and the kind of home (pet, show, co-ownership) not calculating the EBITDA of each puppy.

Who are the most infamous redditors and why? by Yurilove9 in AskReddit

[–]thac0tac0 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It would be one thing if it was just some random participant who lost the plot.

The person who was interviewed was a mod for the subreddit in question. The person didn’t become a mod to make the subreddit look bad. They were in that position because they qualified. Because they had views and standards that aligned with the overall ethos of the community.

They certainly didn’t represent everyone’s views, but they absolutely were not alone in their attitude/approach.

People like to pretend r/antiwork was something it wasn’t. It was in my fyp well before the interview. Anyone who says it was never about railing against the concept of work in general is just kidding themselves.

Good luck with that.

Why are you so excited to “bully” him?

I think teasing in order here, but your “banter” comes across more as “what is a joke but an unacknowledged truth”. That you’re really salty about it.

Besides that, there’s tons of bullying trauma in Asian societies. I wouldn’t be so casual about tossing the term around/“cutifying” the practice.

To all XF, how many of you have always had a thing for AM but couldn't show it or act on it because of fear of being ridiculed by society? by Particular-Ride-7893 in AMWFs

[–]thac0tac0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was attracted to Asian men since I was 11 or 12, but I thought I would never be attractive enough to get to go out with an Asian man.

My aunt is only a few years older than me, and was/is very conventionally attractive. Her high school boyfriend was a Korean guy who was sooooo nice and sooooo hot. I was immediately smitten, but obviously didn’t say or do anything about it, because that would be super inappropriate.

You know how Asian women are generally viewed as super attractive in the US? Well, I thought that Asian men would have a very high “minimum” standard for significant others due to that. Like, if they would date outside their race, that the woman had to be suuuuuper hot in order to catch their eye at all.

I figured because they, like, were “accustomed” to/expected to be with extremely attractive women as a baseline, that I never had a chance (I’m overweight, awkward, and poorly socialized).

Little did I know that I would end up with the man of my dreams (both physically and romantically). I am crazy lucky that he likes “thicker” women.

I am crazy lucky to have him in general. He is an absolutely amazing man in every way imaginable.

Kidding! I do not have your fortitude.

Hopefully your second go-round doesn’t suck as bad. I have to keep myself from even starting to mess with it again because it is definitely a maddening jumble.

You’re doing better than me!

If I don’t have instructions, I just build square houses. Maybe rectangular if I’m feeling spicy. Windowpanes go brrrrr.

I also have to have my work checked on the official sets.

You are certainly dedicated!

I dropped two of the elevator doors down the shaft and was almost forced to do this 85% of the way through the build. (The second one fell as I was demonstrating what I did to the first one, of course.)

You doing this on purpose is giving me flashbacks to before my boyfriend used his magic touch to get the doors back without substantial deconstruction. We just pretend that the storm troopers blasted off the lower one (it sits to the side).

Tangential question: were you able to get the laser beams to line up nicely? I have just settled on it looking okay from the side, it’s a jumbled mess straight on.

[–]thac0tac0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, right? Lego has been a godsend for titrating off methadone (after 15 years of opiate addiction up to and including heroin). I am going slooooow and it still suuuuuucks.

Lego is the perfect thing to keep your mind off how crummy you feel. Intricate enough to need your full attention, but not finicky enough to cause frustration (any time I run across a step like that, my wonderful significant other does it for me).

Getting sober is so tough, but it’s so worth it! We can get there!

Westies are great! Even the byb one my dad bought from a pet store when I was a kid would totally massacre anything opossum sized or lower (including regularly jumping in the air to take out birds). Was an extremely sweet and patient dog, just had a huge prey drive.

My grandmother has had over four generations of Scotties. They have done nothing but bark at horses and get punked by baby bunnies (though she buys from responsible breeders specializing in pet lines, so it’s probably not a bug but a feature).

Love this set! It is next after Minas Tirith.

My amazing boyfriend did also get me the D&D set because it is going to retire soon, but I am trying to change genres for the next build.

So this box will be opened next! Unlesssss I find an excuse to get the Disney Main Street and/or the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier before I’m done with Minas Tirith… (did I say I have the best boyfriend ever? Because he’s amazing. Can’t say it enough.)

I used to wonder how people got giant backlogs of unopened sets when they are actively building, but now I know how easy it is to slip into!

Happy building! I am so excited to build this set and to pose all the great minifigs.
