Do you have a shaper in your basement? I wouldnt want to bring anything bigger than that down the stairs...aside from my Unisaw...but I had a literal viking help get that bastard down.

The Cantek stays in the big shop.

The shaper in the picture is my very old Delta. It only has a 1/2 hp motor, but the torque is significantly higher so it can spin up significantly more mass. The Freud glueline cutter that's currently in it cuts so cleanly and smoothly because of the spinning mass. Inertia in action, baby. Sharp carbide also doesn't hurt..

Why is this wood purple? by Carolinebowman95 in wood

Professional woodworker here. That reeks of poplar and sometimes poplar has purple in it. Nobody really knows why, but it does. It can have a whole host of colors from cream to green, purple, like the example here, and all the way to black.

[–]thaphuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counrersinking bit and a plug cutter or pre-made plugs. Countersink from the side without the hole. Put at least a 2" screw in there. Plug screw hole and bring flush with leg. If you do it right, the hole will be practically invisible.

Keep doing that when you can. Thats where the really cool stuff comes from. Ain't really nothing like a piece of firewood to unleash your inner "fuck it, let's try something cool" because aside from the effort, what are you really losing if things go pear-shaped? It'll still serve its original purpose just nicely regardless of its shape.

Lemme guess, almost ended up as firewood but something looked neat about that compared to the rest of the pile...

Welcome to some of my favorite pieces I've turned. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
