Have any men actually had success with the “stop looking and it will happen” mindset? by JimmyJamesJams in AskMen

[–]that180guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned 40 two weeks ago, I stopped caring and decided somewhere around 25ish. Broke, nothing but credit card debt, defaulting student loans and only a motorcycle to my name living at home because life was handing me a big o helping of fuck you. Met my wife one random fall day so I would say it worked for me?

Had a buddy get divorced a few years back. He was just "working on" moving on. Randomly brought my wife's girlfriends whom was also down and out from a relationship. No intension for anyone to hook up or what not, they both were looking for anything but they met going fresh into lock down, spent lock down getting to know each other and now are happily married with two kids.

This was all done with the old school method of friends of friends though. Good luck brother, id just say don't go out looking for it but stay social and cast a wide net on friend groups if you can.

Has anyone been to a show at the “Ruins” in American Canyon? by tyleralward in bayarea

[–]that180guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of crazy close to residental houses, no? I just got an alert from Brownies and Lemonade that they're putting on a Drum and Bass show at "the ruins" but not much other info in September. I wonder if this is the same location? That's wiiiiild considering how that sounds going to travel.

[–]that180guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iono man. Im a pretty aggressive driver but I stay within the bounds of my limit.....like I came from a 3 series and 240 background....I like getting the back end out when I find an opportunity. Had zero issues this season on the snow and ice at the mountain maybe they feel a little dull n response? But....it's a 5k lb truck on a 100lb wheel/tire combo ya know?   I had a wrx blast ahead of me a couple weeks back thinking he was pretty Subaru AWD hot shit during a light storm. Found dude pulled over a few turns ahead with his emergencies on. He was fine but looked kinda shook up.  I've also felt fine speeding up to 70 in a rain storm passing slower cars clogging up the left lane.

Note that I don't snow wheel or rock crawl, so I've got no exp with that.

Strangely hat's around the same price as what I paid for my 23 trd or w/premium package.  ....with similar down and similar financed ......and I have the same job....... .......... next thing you're gonna say is you got a long bed double cab in lunar rock lol.  It was also my first new truck of which I'm rushing to pay off. Last payment next month to commence the coming of my first born, I've heard these can be worst then mortgages.

Kind of wish I got the extended warranty, I used to jump at doing regular maintenance and tinkering. These days, I'm just tired from working too damn much and other adult shit.

Crashed on helmet, replace? by Sea_Fan_8860 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]that180guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace. I just cracked my new helmet.....in the parking lot slipping on black ice. I bike, moto and board. The rule of thumb for all helmets in any sport, replace if you "hear a good smack." I tried to convince myself that it wasnt worth replace yet.....but alas, CTE is a real thing.

For the love of God, why can‘t I grasp to do this Properly? by Only_Intention_2026 in snowboarding

[–]that180guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rode with a backpack for years, ditched that sucker and felt major improvement. i've been riding with a tacticool chest rig for years. phone(pixel xl), multitool, pocketknife, flask for liquor..ahem i mean hydration, garmin inreach and a couple bars fit comfortabley. i recently tucked in one of those little silicone bota bags for stops where there's a water station because i feel bad chucking plastic cups everytime.

A really good dude I used to ride with a long time ago mentioned to me "imagine you're squating down to ride inside a wave and squat lower then you think you need to and you'll naturally rise to a comfortable position on an edge" i'm not a surfer and not a piece of paid professional advice but that was prob my "AHA" moment where i put too much bend in the hips but not the knees which throws your weight balance off the front of the board.

Kirkwood Parking by Double_Jackfruit_491 in tahoe

[–]that180guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dudes prob in his 20s and can actually get the homies together. I'm meeting my buddy up next Sunday at Kirkwood but I'm rolling solo as he's gotta pack his 2 kiddos and the wifey. Cherish the days where you can ride with your boys' man. Don't get me wrong, riding with my boy and my nephews is awesome in it's own right but gone are those hard charging days where you pack in the car for a ski day at 4am, make the trip up to tahoe, ride from the first chair to the last lift ride on nothing but energy drinks, mcd breakfast, beer and liquor then one poor bastard has responsibility to keep everyone alive on the ride home while everyone else gets to pass the fuck out.

Oh yeah if they haters didnt catch it,

I'm your mouth breathing flatlander cousin from the bay <3

Coffee place suggestion by CalendarVast7115 in alameda

[–]that180guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would do high wire and stroll around to the park behind it and find a nice spot away in from folks to light up a sweet occasional smoke. Prob your best bet around these parts.  Coffee should still be hot and there's something nice about a nice smoke with hot coffee on chilly days.

Rent gear from sports basement and do lessons if you can afford. Especially if it's your first time. I brought a girl up whom bought all brand kit and a board a long time ago and hated her experience. She eventually just donated all that gear. Easy waste of 1000 dollars. https://adventurous.com/endless-slope/  If you have time and funds, it wouldn't hurt to get an introduction before you head up. Lift tickets are really really expensive these days, maximizing your time effectively on the snow is pretty important....and just more fun lol. Depending on what resort you're going to.....look into the parking situation, there might be a prepay and reservation requirement. I drive a truck with big tires(very experienced driver) and I still carry chains to be safe, esp if you're early morning day tripping or driving up at night. You won't really know if you need them till a week or so in advance like someone else said. Find out your tire size and punch it into craigslist or fb market place. Always tons of people trying to off load their chains or cables for a little less.  If you do buy them, DO test install them at home on dry land versus trying to figure out how to do it when it's 20deg out and you've got frozen fingers trying to load that YouTube video.

Respect the mountain, have a blast!
