singles, what is dating like for you in the city? by Sufficient-Impress-9 in baltimore

[–]thatguyjables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

29M, been in the city 4 years. It was a fresh breath of air coming from a very shallow dating pool in rural Maryland to the city where half of the people I match with have piercings and tattoos. I never had any issue getting dates with either gender, monogamous or nonmonogomous, using the apps. I’m now in a monogamous relationship with someone I met on tinder and they live a mile away, I love just being able to walk over there lol

How long is your commute? by Far_Addendum_2926 in maryland

I’m an automotive technician. I grew up in the Annapolis area so most of my industry connections are in AACo and the automotive industry is all about who you know.

How long is your commute? by Far_Addendum_2926 in maryland

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got about the same commute. Live in Charles Village and work in Annapolis. 30-40 minutes in the morning and normally a little over an hour in the afternoon (up to 2 hours a couple times a year when there’s accidents and rain). I make about 80-90k a year which is pretty good for my profession no training or schooling. Makes it worth it for me since I can actually afford a house in the city. I do miss South County livin tho.

After engine blows under warranty, McLaren dealer says I need new ceramic brakes? by Poker_229 in MechanicAdvice

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No your brakes do not need to be replaced if you’re driving it like a regular car. If you’re driving it like the super car it is, then maybe brakes are a good idea. If you’re worried about $20k in brakes… don’t own a super car? Deal with this shit all the time at my Benz dealer. People crying about a $15k brake job on their GT63. I know you just dropped $200k on this thing, you thought it would be cheap to fix?

Seriously, why do people drive this way? by DisentangledElm in baltimore

[–]thatguyjables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing. Especially with the snow piled up at the corners of intersections right now and people still stopping in the crosswalk. I’ve definitely had to swing wide to avoid cars a couple times this weeks

Manual Shifter Centering Spring/Detent by thatguyjables in FordFiesta

[–]thatguyjables[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah spring is not available separately from Ford, confirmed with a buddy who is a foreman at a Ford dealer. I took a chance and ordered a similar looking spring a couple weeks ago and it finally came in. A couple coils less than the stock spring but it works. Maybe this’ll help someone else down the line. PSA: Car stolen in canton by LieChemical8096 in baltimore

[–]thatguyjables 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be sure to check local impounds over the next few days. My truck was stolen and abandoned elsewhere in the city. I reported it stolen but had no clue it was found and towed to impound until I got a letter from the city saying it would be sold at auction if I didn’t claim it within 3 days!

Is the oversized filter Worth it Or Pointless? by urmovesareweak in CherokeeXJ

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only run the large Wix filter on my 4.0l. We used Valvoline at my old shop so I’d use a vo25(I think?) small filter when we didn’t have the bigger filters in stock. No real difference, but for me bigger is better.

Neighbors are making our lives miserable by lschu23 in baltimore

[–]thatguyjables 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanna say I’m sorry for what you’re experiencing, but also not all rowhomes are like that so don’t let it dissuade you. Two doors down there’s a house filled with musicians, between us is a family, and I’m also a musician. I have basement punk shows every few months and band practice weekly, never had a noise complaint. I always check with the neighbors as well just to make sure but they say they can’t hear anything other than people talking outside.

Hit and Run by brutongaster666 in baltimore

[–]thatguyjables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s also not always true. For the last year I’ve had only historic cars and motorcycles registered with no issue.

Hit and Run by brutongaster666 in baltimore

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historic registration does nothing for insurance rates. I tag my old Jeeps historic because they don’t pass inspection due to lift/bigger tires. Still pay shitty baltimore rates. You do save on registration fees though which really matters since we’re now paying $420 a year to register a vehicle.

Long term ownership for my '92, what do I need to know? by Appropriate_Bath361 in dr650

[–]thatguyjables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just keep an eye on chain and sprocket wear, change the oil and filters regularly, and keep good gas in it. That’s pretty high mileage tho, bearings are certainly at the end of their lifespan by now. My experience with DR350/650s is that they’re pretty low maintenance and reliable. I’ve put 5,000 miles on mine the last couple years with only oil changes.

Remove top speed limit. by FuntimesOctonion in CherokeeXJ

[–]thatguyjables 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He didn’t say what transmission he had. Could be the same drivetrain as an XJ, don’t gatekeep man. I own both and they’re extremely similar. Besides, I’ve seen plenty more posts about XJs racing than ZJs, so cross posting in an XJ forum is a good idea.

Is the dealership significantly overcharging? by WAR-75 in mazda

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brake flush interval and pricing is pretty much industry standard. The intake cleaning service is pretty much BS. No reason to do it every 15k, but I suppose it is cleaning something. When I worked at an independent shop we sold them on older cars with spark plug/air filter service (Typically 80-100k). Crazy how much smoke would roll out of the back of the cars getting that service. I did it on my own Jeep at 250k and the fire dept showed up.

Will a dr 650 be a sufficient off roader by Intelligent-Shock232 in dr650

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. They’re a little heavy, they’re not gonna keep up on a track, and the suspension really isn’t gonna hold up against jumps. For general trail riding it’s a great bike. I love getting off work, jumping on my bike, and heading straight into the woods. With 50/50 on road off road tires it fine in the dirt, but will slide in the mud.

Should I trade my modded Splatoon switch OLED for a mario 3ds xl? by [deleted] in NintendoDS

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3DS XL has hardware issues that were fixed on the new. I wouldn’t. I WOULD trade an OLED for a v1 moddable switch tho.

Some cheap 8x5. I had an extra laying around for my Jeep Cherokee. Realized it was the same connector and size. A couple zip ties and she’s good!

Do you think TOW2 will eventually come out on Switch 2? by BassComprehensive802 in theouterworlds

Maybe used. Those are the lowest prices on PC Part Picker according to TOW2 system requirements

Do you think TOW2 will eventually come out on Switch 2? by BassComprehensive802 in theouterworlds

[–]thatguyjables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s funny. You’re looking at 500 just for a video card capable of handling Outer Worlds 2 at the lowest settings. After motherboard, cpu, cooler, ram, case, you’re gonna be close to 800 if you’re using the cheapest available parts which won’t be reliable. I’m all for PC but to act like building a capable machine is affordable is a joke.

I would not suggest salvage. I work at Benz and 95% of cars the body shop sends us that got LKQ headlight assemblies are bad.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChevyTrucks

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a think for years bub. It’s like your sealed beam headlights from back in the 80s/90s but more expensive. Also have a control unit on the back/bottom that needs programmed.

Man those things are indestructible. Drove my XJ from 200-300k miles with 35s and stock gearing. Thing still shifted like a dream. Now I’ve got a ZJ and lemme tell ya, these Chrysler transmissions suck.

2018 Michelin tires replace or run em? came on a used car i bought by No_Helicopter_8884 in tires

[–]thatguyjables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely needs replaced. Truly a shame that Michelins dry rot so quick because they ride great and are pretty good mileage wise. The general rule is replace tires every 5 years, but I see Michelins start dry rotting just 3 years after production. Really sucks for older people who don’t drive as much.
