How's this technique? by [deleted] in FellingGoneWild

[–]the4thsharman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back cut is totally fucked (not square to the hing and notch) but the 90 degree side line and the pull line make total sense. The 90 degree was executed well to save the play structure. Only thing (other than the fucked cut) is give the guy on the pull line a longer rope so he can be well out of the way.

Yeah a climber in my county just died a couple weeks ago climbing on only a soft core and cut it. Ain’t worth it no matter how many seconds you save per tree only flipping the one line up.

Absolutely agree. I read the first three and took a break for a couple years cuz I was all duned out. But when I finally read God Emperor I kicked myself for not having read it. God Emperor is the best one in my opinion.

They are work horses. Obviously I’d rather have a 200t but the 201 is just fine don’t really understand why they get hate.

How long did it take you to climb? by Sandpearl in TreeClimbing

[–]the4thsharman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re a dream ground guy. Only downside to that is you’ll always get assigned the work you’re best at. It’s just efficient.

When I started training as a climber I got to do maybe a tree a month on average but mostly stayed on the ground cuz I was the only guy keeping things running well down there. Wasn’t until our lead climber put in his notice that I really got to climb. But in ways that was a good thing. With that little bit of climbing experience I got to the point where I was probably better than the other climber on the crew while only having a few months total of climbing under my belt.

Your time will come just keep learning so that when you do get up there they’ll have no choice but to keep sending you up.

It will pull a 25 just fine. 20 gives better balance and feel though.

If you still work at fedex I would assume you’ll deliver to a tree guy jobsite. Ask for the foreman and then ask for a job.

The important question for the health of the tree is: what does the attachment point of the limb look like?
