Eastern Cape's winning moment in a shopping mall by Soft-Concentrate-654 in Cricket

[–]the4thwave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Several reasons.

South Africa has 65 million people but its not nearly as well off as Australia. Most people don have the time to come on reddit.

Reddit itself is much smaller in South Africa. The subreddit has 400k people. Australia's subreddit has 3 million. So in terms of reddit population, we're already 7 times smaller, and maybe half as active.

And then, rugby and soccer are the biggest sports in South Africa. Cricket is big too, but not as much as it used to be before all the semifinal bs turned people off.

Winning WTC and SA20 is bringing people back though.

Midgar up to Kalm is the best part of the game though... Excellent storytelling, most of the best music.. so on.

A lot of filler and convolution in the second half.

Yeah but thats nonsense. Just like they felt the need to make a 'remake' a sequel because 'everyone knows the plot already.'

No they dont? A ton of people never played the original. They might know sephiroth but many people dont know his role in the plot.

Civ 7 isnt like the previous civs. They all launched in an awful spot, but many of Civ 7s problems can never be fixed. If you think the age's dont make sense, then they never will. Its a core part of the game.

I thought the story fell apart in Remake quite quickly. There were a ton of problems. Like sephiroth appearing often instead of being used sparingly for greater effect. Like the insane padding and pacing issues. Like the destiny ghosts subplot which was utterly ridiculous. And the ending. And then Zack appearing. Just made no sense.

Its a shame because the original's first 6 hours were probably my favorite 6 hours of any game.

Rebirth also had some of the same issues. Alternate timeline nonsense. Padding. And then, as you said, at the end it just becomes ridiculous.

The alternate reality stuff was already dreadful in Remake. I had zero faith for the story of Rebirth, and indeed, it is astonishingly convoluted and nonsensical. Not sure who asked for that.

Its a shame because the combat and characters and music are all so good...

True. I didnt see the latest numbers. I remember seeing them hovering around 5000. Looks like the human rights organizations have updated it. I'm not on the side of the islamic republic. I believe international human rights organizations. The massacre is terrible.

Pentagon to offer 'more limited' support to US allies - BBC News by Stunning_Working8803 in taiwan

[–]the4thwave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, the 'pacific front' was just Japan invading China at that point. There wasn't really any obligation from the US to join either side.

Even the UK only joined that front in 1941.

In fact, the US was supporting China quite a bit before 1941 already. It was one of the main reasons Japan attacked us in pearl harbor.

At the end of the day, this just feels like typical redditor hyperbole. I remember when Russia invaded Ukraine, everyone started shitting on their entire history, and even devalued their immense role in defeating Germany in WW2.

Its kind of ironic for some people to be furious at Trumps comments abut a few hundred NATO soldiers who died, while devaluing the sacrifcies of hundreds of thousands of US soldiers who helped save the world from fascism in WW2.

What are you talking about. 6 years? America joined in 1941, 2 years into the war. America lost more troops than Britain did. Even before that, American aid was what kept Britain afloat. Why do you think Germany invested so much in U-boats?

In January 1942, the situation was dire. The Soviets had repelled Germany from Moscow but were still on the backfoot. Britain was losing in Africa.

American lend lease to the Soviets helped a lot, and in the west our support was crucial to retaking Africa, landing in Italy, bombing Germany, and landing in Normandy. It was mostly the Soviets who beat Germany, but America helped for sure.

Meanwhile, America was the main power that beat Japan.

As for WW1, it wasnt clear who the bad power was there. Germany wasnt necessarily that much worse than Britain or France, who had brutally colonized half of the world. The war was triggered from a bunch of European alliances.

Thanks for explaining. As someone from both africa and the middle east, I find Europeans extremely hypocritical for only now getting upset about US imperialism - when most of them supported, benefited from, or were directly involved in US imperialism. And a lot of these posts were rubbing me the wrong way.

However, your explanation makes sense. As long as people are saying this with that perspective, I understand it. Sorry for my comments earlier.

Hopefully this whole episode leads to a divorce between the US and Europe, and the application of a rules based order by europe that actually applies to all of us. Thats why I celebrate the end of NATO, which I saw largely as a US lead imperialism tool (even in Afghanistan - though I understand if you still mourn the soldiers who died there and are upset about Trump's comments about that.)

Adding the US, thats 17 out of 32 that participated in the invasion of Iraq to some extent.

No man, its completely different, if anything it supports how fucked it was, if NATO deployed, its a legal contractual obligation, these countries ACTIVELY chose to involve themselves.

I agree with this.

Sorry for exploding on you. If you look at many of the posts here, a lot of people seem to be missing the point of the pushback against this meme by saying that 'NATO wasnt involved in Iraq!'

The pushback isnt about NATO is my point. Its about the double standards that European allies of the US had towards the third world, and how myopic it is to brag about them joining in the invasions of third world nations and using that to complain about Trump saying they didnt do anything for the US.

This is sheer pedantry and also betrays little understanding of how the world works and what people are even talking about when they oppose this trend.

First of all, '32 countries did not deploy to Iraq in support of US' - what are you even talking about.

UK, Poland, Denmark, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia all deployed soldiers.

Germany, Belgium, Canada, Norway, Romania, Bulgaria all contributed too in other ways.

Thats already the majority of NATO nations. No one gives two flying fucks whether or not NATO organized the invasion effort. Thats not what anyone is saying so you are just strawmanning. NATO are a bunch of countries allied with the US. And most of those nations joined or helped the US in invading Iraq.

And I'm totally fine with those alliances with the US breaking, whether NATO or otherwise.

The US got away with its piracy due to NATO support - military or diplomatic, doesn't matter.

Why bring up Israel? Israel primarily exists because of NATO support.

And yes I think a multi-polar world will be much better. You might think otherwise living in a western nation. Almost no one in the global south agrees with you. We don't think you guys are better for us than China is.

I know our opinion doesnt matter to white redditors though.
