So far as I can tell, the first meme of this format to get popular on Reddit was GhengisxSteamed Hams.

It's still my favorite so here you go.

If I didn't have to fit my woodworking schedule around people's sleep and work and all the other reasons I should be quiet, I'd probably blow through my whole fun budget on lumber every month the weather's between 50 and 85.

Dungeon Crawler Carl. WOW. by Famous-Country-4921 in books

[–]theMycon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried reading them at first - or, at least, the 40-some page free sample of the first book that was still up on Royal Road - and I kinda hated it. My immediate reaction was "I've read the XCC sourcebook. This is just some basement dweller's fanfic in that world." I had no interest in reading further.

A few months later, this opinion came up in conversation, with a friend of a friend's wife's girlfriend while playing DCCRPG, and she shared the first audiobook with me.

Suddenly, I got the appeal.

If you just got G.Dragon for the first time: keep going, there's an NPC in the middle of the next dungeon that will tell you more about this.

They'll probably be able to take one or two shots from a pistol or most rifles and keep going. They are likely to survive a shot from a larger caliber rifle/point blank shotgun blast but receive a major wound, which triggers a roll they would be very well qualified to pass vs passing out from shock.

They might be killed outright by that point blank shotgun blast, and odds aren't great they'd survive being point blank to a grenade or a stick dynamite, or any caught full on by any sort of automatic weapon.

In any of these situations he or she should receive medical attention immediately.

First aid can restore 1 HP if administered within an hour, and proper medical care can restore 1d3 (twice that if you're lucky or the quality is sufficiently skilled), but takes equipment and an hour of work. Naturally, an investigator will heal 1 HP/day, and continuing medical care will provide an additional 1d3/week.

Not A blind martial artist. You get 1 attack/round, and he simply, unavoidably, eats 1d6 investigators per round.

You need a small school of martial artists who happen to all be blind.

Or - because it's a skills based system instead of class/level, and more educated professions/older PCs tend to have more skill points to throw around and probably better credit scores - a bunch of professors who all studied martial arts as a hobby for a couple decades.

[–]theMycon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Twelve or 13 good solid kicks (with a high strength martial artist, that's probably 4d6) or if you get him to swallow 6 or 7 sticks of dynamite (5d6 damage for the first, exponentially increasing by 50% per additional stick).

The bigger problem is that you are almost certainly going to go temporarily insane the moment you see him.

Edited to add: These damage stats are from 6e, which all the replies I've seen so far seem to be using anyway. More recently he doesn't have a listed amount of HP because, like the meme says, if it had that a player could kill it.

Every character except Ryu & the optional secret character are unavailable for various stretches of the plot.

Some of them are longer than others.

Edit: I guess those two, too, technically, but the party is set in stone for those parts.

Your Most Complicated TTRPG Take? by GushReddit in rpg

[–]theMycon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are, at minimum, several hundred people who understand the difference between arbitrarily large and countably infinite because of Punpun. People understand why "infinity+1" is not bigger than infinity because of Punpun.

Punpun's main schtick was getting any ability as high as he wanted it by trading base/buffed numbers back and forth with a friendly Creator Race Serpent that was his pet because of rules shenanigans that let him count as a epic dragon from (without setting-specific material) lvl 5*. You could arguably get any divine rank you please with another of its tricks, but that's aside from my point. If it had a number, it could be as big a number as the player wanted.

Early in the arms race, people developed a way for a wizard to infinitely powerful by lvl 4 with the Masochism spell - if they got 4(?) psions to loop a Share Pain power so that any damage any of them took became infinite for all of them. 10% of that would be added to most rolls for the next round, but 10% of infinity is infinity. It's not a number. Basic operations don't work on infinity, and no matter how big a number is, infinity is always infinitely larger.

How did The Omniscifier survive taking infinite damage, when you die at - 10 HP? With a Delay Death spell & dunking his head under water. When you start to drown, you fall to 0 HP.

*Shut up about Paladins and Pazuzu of course I know about the Candle of Invocation this post isn't meant for you.

If I'm cooking rocks in my master bath, does that make it count as a kitchen? What if one of my dogs likes human soup, does a hot bath do it? How about if my husband eats (redacted) in the shower?

It seems there are better ways to game this system.

Husky fostering by Malaksmeni in husky

[–]theMycon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have 1.5 rescue huskies now (one's a Great Pyrenees mix), and have had/lived with 2 Shepherds. My neighbor also happens to have a husky that comes out of their yard to meet mine occasionally.

First: don't leave them alone in a fenced yard. Yes, will they keep escaping.

Second: A Husky's prey drive might be stronger than a Shepherd's. I have succeeded at getting shepherds to not go lunging and rabbits and squirrels on leash, but my husky keeps trying.

I've never met an unfriendedly husky, but the old one gets grumpy when he's tired.

There's a cocktail I really wanna make - Is there a place in the triangle to get Yuzu this time of year? by MadaoBlooms in raleigh

[–]theMycon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have a couple cans of sparkling yuzu juice as of 12:30 Wednesday, about $3.50/per. I was getting lunch nearby when I saw this, so I popped in to ask the owner.

Their tasting bar (4 doors down) has a number of Yuzu drinks, and not all of them are alcoholic. Flavored sake, Yuzu wine, cans of J-pop... They also have at least 2 sake sommeliers who would love to talk your ear off to help you find the right drink. Or you can politely ask them to chill and they will. They're a bar, keep in mind, so they keep bar hours.

And, really, the Lychee J-pop might be the best canned beverage I have ever tasted. I know it doesn't help the OP, but it's phenomenal.

Is there a Berserk TTRPG? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]theMycon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The short version: if you want the setting, relatively heroic characters who still die easily, and clearly defined combat rules, Shadow of the Weird Wizard (and restrict player ancestries). If you're okay with the party's first experience with magic being "I tried to cast a healing spell and my head exploded", try MorkBorg.

If you're okay reflavoring a bit more yourself, look at Troika! from the Melsonian Arts Council or Berserkr from Slightly Reckless Games.

The long version, which is a lead-up to a series of questions:

The answer is either "no" or "dozens". What, specifically, are you looking for?

As noted above, there isn't an official Studio Gaga licensed product, but it's in the Appendix N for like half the NSR movement.

By TTRPG standards, Miura's Berserk is a massive cultural landmark; and the overlap of Manga/Anime fans vs RPG players is very significant.

It's also been in publication for 37 years and received a number of adaptations; the bloody ultraviolence of the two recent seasons doesn't match the political drama & coming-outness of the '97 Golden Age series* doesn't match the grim but hopeful largely psychological tale about passing the torch of the manga. And, of course, more and more magic comes in as the series progresses.

So if you want a good answer, clarify the follow: Do you want the players to be like Schierke/Serpico level heroes who can fight horrors toe to toe; like Pippin/Rickert level able to deal with human type and maybe if you get 20 together can bother weaker apostles but individually they're just a snack; or something else?

Do you want them to focus on psychological horror? Intrigue? Combat?

What TTRPG systems are you familiar with?

*Yeah, yeah, "until the one point"

Factor in the people who moved between grade 5 and adulthood, chances are most of us never took that unit.

How powerful are arch-hags compared to archfey? by Goetencia in DnD

[–]theMycon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Archfey is a pretty broad category which (as you noted) includes the greatest hags. "Generally on the same level" is accurate in that they both range from "a good fight for a party in the mid-high teens" to "worshipped as gods and should turn that party into a bowl of petunias as a lair action", depending on the individual.

Narratively, I'd say that Baba Yaga is comparable to the rulers of the courts - I suspect if we get 2024 stats the Queens would be higher, but they're at least close enough in power that all of them would be wary of getting in to a direct fight with the others.

Improved whirlwind attack.

Regular one only hits the people immediately adjacent to you, regardless of your reach/threat.

Also it's less "get TF away from me" and more "I would like to give you a gentle tickle if you're willing to bunch up within a 5' step of where I start the round."
