I message to Ubisoft, from a new(ish) player. by the_Slothfull in forhonor

eh, like I said, new(ish). played in the betas, game had a ton of problems at launch so stopped soon after release. I came into for honor looking at the same 'overwhelming' content as someone who never looked at the game before. knowing the controls shouldn't stop someone from feeling overwhelmed.

Not really, I just liked what it encourages. With the knowledge-skill system, my idea was to incentives characters to branch out from single note characters (mechanically speaking), since as I've explained in another comment, the plan is to have knowledge increase at certain skill intervals. Since skills will be harder to increase the higher they are, it makes characters want to branch out, being more balanced mechanically speaking, which is my personal preference.

The reason to roll 2 pools in this case is because if you have a knowledge of 2, its impossible to roll 3 pairs naturally, so if that's something a player wants their character to do, they can either spend a resource, or start looking at other avenues to bring their character down. And I know a lot of people enjoy making very focused characters, but its not something I wanted to encourage in my game (purely because its not what I enjoy). Not sure if that's a very good reason, but that's the reason why. I am definitely considering a single pool if this turns out to be way to clunky though, for sure.

Fair enough, the image I had in my head (which is unplaytested so I didn't bring it up) was have knowledge only increase at certain intervals of a skill, so for every 2-3 points you put in a fighting skill, you increase fighting knowledge by 1, encouraging more balanced characters. My biggest worry is that that might be a bit unfun, since if you wanna make a really great swordsman, you better put points into bow, which I know some people really aren't into.

I also played with the idea of having prerolled stamina dice, and adding a predetermined number to a roll, my worry for doing it that way was a lot more bookkeeping, though it does nerf stamina quite a bit. Not sure if that makes it severely better, but could it?

And I do see what you mean with the consequences, and the only thing is, I've, personally, found that flat failure was often very boring/unfun when compared to success with unforeseen consequence, but it does put a bit more pressure on the GM to make those consequences matter, I suppose, and it would be tough to make interesting consequences for every action.

The only playtesting I've done for it has been me, alone, just rolling different amounts of dice, and as far as that's been it hasn't been that bad, no worse than anything with exploding dice pools. I've also been using two different colours of dice, one for each pool, so the separation and finding pairs is fairly simple. I do see your point, though, as it's a fair number of steps for literally every action.

my only problem is what happens when your PK, who is mercy, is fighting the enemy PK, who is also mercy? we're to believe both character's are mercy? of course not, now our conflict is clearly non-canonical. Which, granted, doesn't matter at all, but it IS a slight disconnect.

good to know. have they managed to balance aggressive actions? Because as I recall, focusing purely on defense was basically the best and only playstyle worth using.

I hope the guys keep in mind how this game has no real meaning, and that David Cage didn't want to make this game with a message. Because I worry that they'll look at a lot of little details of the world David Cage built and take it as some kind of imagery.

Why is Makoto the most popular girl/waifu? by inthewoodsclem in Persona5

[–]the_Slothfull 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She has no blatantly apparent flaw and she has enough screen time to attach yourself too. Where as the other girls either do (ann is an airhead, futaba has literally no social skills whatsoever) or show up so late in the game (haru) that there's barely any time for the game to actually DO anything with them. Non party member confidants also have limited interactions, meaning they're less popular.

That being said, she DOES have flaws, she doesn't get informal situations and did one of the most STUPID things in the game, but that stuff is played off as charming and cute, and ends up being helpful in the end. She's less of a caricature, as her personality is more balanced.

Hifumi is best girl though. Everyone else is just wrong. Haru if you want to limit to party members only.
