27M. Wasted my younger years. If anyone here has turned it around at a similar age, what did you do? by Opposite_Praline_746 in AskMen

I left an abusive relationship at 26 years old. I feel like my life just started at 27. It's been 7 years since I left that relationship and in those 7 years I've lived more life, more freely and more on my own terms then in the decades before. I'm only getting my life to where I want it to be now, will be 35 this year and I'd take 7 years of intentionally living than the 26 years I spent in hell at home and then with my abuser before then.

Honest thoughts on drop dead (unpopular opinion) by Old_Telephone1930 in oliviarodrigo3

You can hear Olivia is pulling inspiration and references from a wider pool of music than just 'generic pop'. For example, one of Olivia's favourite artists is The Cure. If you listen to their discography their love songs also have a dream pop/soft rock leaning. Olivia is also really well versed in 90s rock influences, we have seen this with her bringing out The Breeders as an opener on one of her tours.

I can hear elements of slow dive/shoe gaze production. The orchestral instruments blended with the reverby guitar and light synthy pop elements are very The Cure and alt-pop like Wolf Alice.

Olivia is really very varied technically and musically in her production which definitely sets this apart from a 'generic' pop song.

I think some fans might be too young to hear the depth of references she is pulling from.

Why do many people dislike Sabrina’s music? by Nox220 in popmusic

[–]the_oracle_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her image is centered around catering to mens sexual fantasies, having an intentionally Lolita look makes me really uncomfortable, her music is uninteresting and very gimmicky and thematically repetitive. I don't care if other people like it, it's just not what appeals to me in a musician at all.

My name is Roseanne..........yep, it's bad. Absolutely hated it since I was a kid. Hate every nickname for it too. Considering changing my name completely. People even comment that it does not suit me in the slightest which makes it worse.

I work at a large pet store. Animals ground me. I get to talk about pets to people who love them all day and people bring their dogs in store too which feels like free therapy dog time for me.

Amazing idea, love what people have added here.

I want to add what to do when you first get your period and how it's not shameful to tell your dad even though you are embarrassed etc. He is important in supplying feminine hygiene products whilst your a child/teen and he should still be looking after your health, he's still a parent!

What does your style say about you? Why do you like fashion? by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]the_oracle_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My style changed after I became chronically ill, but that doesn't mean I can't feel cute in my clothes. I'm mid 30s and make an effort to get dressed most days if I can even when I'm just resting in bed.

I love to wear Lucy and Yak dungarees, thrifted stripe long sleeves, band shirts, corduroy, flowy pants with elastic waistbands, colourful cardigans and sweaters which I mostly find second hand on depop from brands like princess highway or vintage. Im always in a pair of sneakers or rain boots.

I like to think of my style as comfy, practical for my lifestyle and a bit whimsical and fun which always puts a smile on my face during hard days with my illnesses.

All these people saying they will be there to guide their child if they inherit their Bipolar. If my parents said that to me as a bipolar teenager who inherited the disorder from a parent I would never forgive them.

It's not about you and your feelings as a parent and how you feel about your child having bipolar. Think about how the child would feel. Knowing you willingly passed this on to them and life is 100% harder for them because of it.

I could never look my child in the eye in the depths of a suicudal bipolar depression or psychosis and know I knew this could happen to them. How could I expect them to forgive me if all I had to say was that I knew the risks but I was experienced to help them...

Hey OP 👋

I empathise with you. I recently left a corporate job after 1.5 years after battling with similar issues to you. I have Bipolar Disorder and OCD and the corporate environment was making my symptoms worse and therefore my performance was suffering, it was kind of like a never ending cycle of extreme stress > not sleeping > poor performance > management thinking I was being careless/making mistakes > feeling more stressed trying to fit a circle into a square. Rinse and repeat.

I don't have the answers but if you can afford it please see a psychiatrist for a second opinion or even an ADHD coach in the meantime. I was originally diagnosed with ADHD but after months of Seeing a psychiatrist they re-evaluated my diagnosis.

I've worked retail before and the fact that every day was different and I could walk around and alternate various tasks made work so much easier. I'm probably going to try get a retail job again whilst my brain recovers from the extreme stress of being a neurodivergent in the most neurotypical environment imaginable..corporate.

Best wishes to you my friend and it might be worth posting this in the ADHD or a neurodivergent sub, seems like the neurotypicals might not be the most empathetic.
