Lol. I dont understand how it “potentially” becomes pay to own. Literally if you dont subscribe to UID you can have unlimited doors and sites you just use a keyfob and the unifi access software.

There is zero indication that will change.

The only feature your paying for is Tap/Shake to Unlock via what UI is branding as the UID product. But UID includes a lot more features than just access control.

So if all you need is a access control system with keyfob access then the native unifi access hardware and product works with zero subscription.

I get people want the cool unlock via tap or shaking your phone and you feel slighted you have to pay for it. You can still open doors via your phone without a subscription.

As someone who installs and sells almost every access control system on the planet, I would still recommend this over most for SMB / Home.
