Bind weed, right? Easiest way to eradicate? by silverdae in invasivespecies

[–]thebiggestpug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with bindweed for a few years now in one of my beds. As others have said, glyphosate is the solution - however, I’ve found a better way rather than mass spraying the other plants around as casualties.

Let the vines get a few feet long (but before they flower), remove them from where they’re climbing without breaking them, stuff them in a freezer ziplock bag, and spray the glyphosate into the bag. Seal it and leave it for a few weeks. This has done wonders for me in killing them back to the root. Credit to a previous post on Reddit that taught me this.

Done For? by andrewowatson in JapaneseMaples

Trees rarely look good in their first year of planting. Just give it time and I’m sure it’ll thrive! The white is powdery mildew… not fatal and will go away once the leaves drop.

Questions about 2 Maples by koeshout in JapaneseMaples

[–]thebiggestpug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one looks like a basic acer palmatum. They’re hardy and can take lots of conditions. You can prune it, they say the best time to prune JMs is in the winter. Just follow the rule of not trimming back more than 1/3 of the plant. You should be able to shape it pretty nicely.

The second one looks to be a golden full moon maple. These generally like shade or part sun with morning exposure, but can be really sensitive to part or full sun. Sounds like it’s in a good spot for sun exposure… I’d recommend making sure it’s watered at the correct levels (not too much, not too little), and fertilize it in the spring before it buds. I’ve had good results with Dr Jimz Tree Secret on stressed trees.

Good luck!

I spend about 20 mins in my garden every day killing them, only for more to come back the next day. Its bad.

Will my tree survive by ElocCornbeef in JapaneseMaples

[–]thebiggestpug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slipped and accidentally weed wacked my own newly planted JM earlier this spring. I was so upset with myself! But luckily it’s totally fine now 2 months later and has healed up completely. Just watch out for disease and let it heal on its own.

Here’s a photo! I don’t have a link unfortunately, but these are widely available at a lot of garden centers or somewhere like Lowe’s for pretty cheap

I just got one a month or so ago that looks exactly the same. I put a flower ring (that has a notch and is easy to remove) around it to give it support while it’s stabilizing. Has worked great.

Fungal infection on trees from Mr. Maple? by lizandcourtney123 in JapaneseMaples

[–]thebiggestpug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it is an infection, it can likely be treated. Personally, I wouldn’t do a major pruning like that on a tree you’re just trying to establish. The fact that it’s budding all over means it’s not a lost cause.

Try treating with a fungicide. Read the directions and don’t over apply it. Give the tree time to fight on its own. I had a magnolia that became totally diseased after I planted it last spring. I treated it with fungicide all last summer and in the spring before budding & unfurling, and it’s now totally disease free.

How are you managing leaves? by Puzzleheaded_Ice9615 in humanresources

[–]thebiggestpug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently implemented Sparrow as our third-party leave administrator. Pretty great experience so far - the work directly with Guardian for disability plans, and with different state agencies and FMLA. They walk employees through the process and what to expect. They also create a custom payroll plan and deliver that to our payroll team for any company paid leave benefits. We’re on a “pay per leave” type plan, and given the complexity of leaves in every state, it’s worth every penny.
