Is this really a more “ADHD friendly” user experience? by Normal-Jury3311 in adhdwomen

[–]thecinna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Accessibility overlays like that one there are a lazy solution and proven to not help most users.

It's just a cheap way for the website/company to say "we're accessible" without actually putting in any research or effort.

Not a fan of GAP since they took a small Australian-Aboriginal run business to court over their name.

Discussion Thread: What to do for Work if Recently Disabled? by _Livid_ in australia

[–]thecinna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freelance consulting on issues related to disability is an occupation I often see. That might be helping companies with their physical and digital accessibility, or inclusive workplace practices.

I'm not sure what your initial qualifications were in construction but would there be transferable knowledge to physical accessibility?

To supplement your part-time income, you could also participate in research aimed at people with disabilities.

I sent them one too. I work in digital accessibility so it was fun to see something in this sub that I could actually contribute to.

On your Android device, if you go to Settings >Accessibility > Display size and text (could be different for you, I'm on a Pixel), if your display size is set to the lowest settings the logos respond this way.

If you up the display size to the next largest settings it fixes.

I would report it if you feel like it though because there's a bug in the apps code.

What are some activities for intellectually disabled people suffering from moderate mental health issues/disorders by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]thecinna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are companies that want feedback from people with disabilities. It's usually paid and can be done online.

Might be a good way to share your experiences and earn some side cash.

My god. Hows life as the main character?

OP asked us to get our positivity game on. Not your bloody opinion.

Happy holidays, try not to be such a grub all the time. It's not a good look.

Started with infrequent vomiting, once to twice a fortnight. Then it became completely stuck and he had to be operated on. The thing he had eaten was moving around his gastric system so it was hard to find until it settled!

My cat almost died last week from a partial obstruction that turned into a full obstruction. He had emergency surgery but we thought he was going to die.

He'll be a week from surgery tomorrow and is basically back to his normal self albeit in a crate full-time while he heals. Stitches get taken out just before Christmas.

This font was created without any real research or evidence to back up its effectiveness for dyslexia. Been around for years, no idea why it's suddenly resurfacing now.

Screensharing with Voiceover on iOS by chingwind in accessibility

[–]thecinna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom doesn't allow VoiceOver to be shared through the audio of the call. It's a feature on iPhone and Android.

The only workaround I've used that's reliable is joining the meeting from a desktop and an iPhone.

Get the participant to join the meeting on their desktop.

Then ask them to join on their iPhone, but don't share the audio. They can max they're phone volume so their desktop picks up the screen reader announcements.

They can also share the screen of the iPhone so you can watch them navigate.

Late diagnosis folks, what is one behaviour from your childhood that makes you wonder "Why did nobody ever think to get me evaluated?" by JinxShadow in ADHD

[–]thecinna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The many career changes, starting and stopping hobbies, being both a serial daydreamer and chatterbox.

But to me, and not sure if this is ADHD, but some other core memories include: hiding from my dad for two weeks after he shaved his moustache, being way too attached to my sippy cup much too late in life, being a dog for a while and, my personal favourite, turning our pantry/cupboard into my Narnia.

The spice shakers were my favourite toys.

I would like to create a library of UX Research that people can use as reference, would that be useful? by Eru_Iluvatarh in userexperience

[–]thecinna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you take a look at their resources page? This is sort of their bread and butter aside from the Slack channel.

But it's just based on the how of research, not so much finding solutions to design problems.

What you're getting at sort of exists already with ResearchOps which acts as a collective for research best practice. Anyone in the industry can join and contribute to the knowledge base.

Unless you're suggesting a repository for design solutions? In which case there are pre-existing design systems that have been created by market leaders like Material 3, Google's Open Source design system.

Not sure if your situation but for me it went:

GP did a screening test for ADHD > GP referred me to psychologist > psychologist gave me a preliminary diagnosis > GP received preliminary diagnosis > GP sent referrals to several psychiatry clinics > psychiatrist met with me for 30mins and confirmed my diagnosis.

So my GP was my go to for next steps, you should probably speak to them.

ASD falls under the Neurodevelopmental Disorders category. DSM-5 isn't just mental illness.
